Character Concept, Personality Merits and Flaws
Outwardly social and open, Xelic has a love for exploration, the sea and the night sky. Sadly, Xelic also has a weak stomach that prevents him from pursuing a dream to explore the sea, challenging and intensifying his love for its beauty and mystery. His emotions are quickly and easily identifiable and rarely moderate in nature, although he often tries to feign indifference in order to appear more emotionally in control. Xelic yearns for friendship but has a tendency to cling, occasionally pushing potential companions away by smothering them with too much of himself too quickly. Subsequently, the pain of rejected has resulted in a hesitation to open up as a defense mechanism against rejection. His passion for the sea and stars is complemented by his unyielding compulsion to understand everything, from nature to the reasons behind the choices other people make. His compulsion borders on obsessive and sometimes results in him overstepping boundaries in order to satisfy his thirst for said knowledge and understanding. Additionally, Xelic’s desire to understand the emotional spectrum has led him to become very empathetic and caring toward strangers. This is also an emotional mechanism to circumvent his inner conflict; simultaneously rejecting and longing for companionship. This does prove to be a challenge for Xelic, as he has to fight to suppress his desire to understand others through curious questions when listening to another's emotional plight. For someone who works as hard as he does to figure out and understand everything, Xelic hasn't the first clue as to what he actually wants to do with himself or his life; content to simply observe his surroundings, explore his curiosity and express himself through poetry, written from the heart in a poorly masked attempt to seek the attention and companionship of others.
History
Xelic was an only child, born of his Vantha father and mother Korven and Serlina Skyglow. Serlina came to be with child only six short months after Xelic’s birth. Fate, it would seem, had other plans for the unborn child as well as the next, both of whom would be stillborn. After these events took place, Korven and Serlina decided against further pregnancies. Several years later, in the winter of 501 AV, Xelic was betrothed to his childhood friend, a Vantha named Selwynn Snowsong. The arrangement was only a formality between the two families and the wedding was planned for the fall of 502 AV, just prior to Morwen’s annual departure. Sadly, the lives of Xelic’s parents were claimed by Shiyami at the Avanthal port in the summer of 502. Xelic fell into a deep depression after the swift and tragic loss of his family, refusing to eat and unable to sleep. He spent the next several months plagued by nightmares and depression, which his betrothed Selwynn suffered with him, as any childhood companion would. One evening, during the summer of 503, she coaxed him back out to the port to confront his depression and angst, attempting to reignite his passion for the sea and the stars intending to take him out a short distance in a small skiff. Xelic refused to board and Selwynn rowed out into the waters in an attempt to convey how amazing and beautiful it was, hoping he would call out to her so that she could return and they would row out together. The waters were rough, even at such a short distance from the shore and the skiff was capsized, sending Selwynn plunging into the freezing waters below. Selwynn was able to swim to shore, but she had gone hypothermic, past the point of return, despite her Gnosis by the time she made it back to shore. Frigid and shaking, Xelic took her in his arms, holding her in a desperate attempt to warm her with his own body as she slowly passed away in his grasp. As the hypothermia reached its final stages, [Selwynn – pending HD NPC approval] writhed in pain from the false heat she felt, tearing the flesh Xelic’s Gnosis was placed upon between his shoulder blades, leaving a scarred snowflake in his back as a constant reminder of the love that was lost to the frozen sea, bearing the mark of Morwen.
Gnosis
Morwen’s gift to Xelic, bestowed upon him at his coming of age, is located between the tops of his shoulder blades, just below the base of his neck. The flesh bearing the Gnosis was torn and scarred by the fingernails of his betrothed as she died in his arms.

Heirloom
A black, wool, ankle-length, hooded cloak lined with amethyst-colored fur, emblazoned with the shimmering silver sigil on the back. The front clasp is made of Icestone, crafted into the shape of the sigil bore on the back of the cloak. This cloak belonged to Xelic's father, bearing the craftsman's mark he used to "sign" all of his carvings.
