Radris slowly looked down to Raiha’s hands as she held them out before he slowly shook his head as he grabbed one wrist, dropping the wooden rod before circling around behind her. “Your hands get bound behind your back for this one,” Radris said, slowly reaching out for her other arm then and tugging it behind her, “otherwise, you can still raise your hands defensively in an attempt to block.”

Radris then slowly began to wrap the strand of rope around Raiha’s hands, pulling them close together. “Like I said, you have to learn to instinctively avoid, and not block.” Radris explained and began tying a couple of knots, making the rope snug, but not quite snug enough to cut off circulation. “Blocking and parrying with a weapon is fine and dandy, doing so with your hands and forearms leads to injury. Unless you have some gauntlets or bracer that can stand up to it of course, but that’s a lesson for a later time.”

Radris slowly circled around to her front once again before bending over to pick up the wooden rod. He began tapping it along his shoulder once again, looking over her for a moment as he tilted his head and released an exhale. “Well, I’d love to just up and start beating on you, but Hatot would get upset if I didn’t at least explain things a little first.” Radris said in a disgruntled tone, tapping his shoulder once again. “So I guess I’ll go over them first.”

Radris took a couple of steps back, lowering the stick slightly as he looked at Raiha. “All weapons have three basic attacks to them, no matter the weapon. It just seems like more depending on how a weapon user approaches those attacks and how fast they are with them, but in the end the movements don’t change up that much, just how their angled and where they’re aimed.”

Radris then swung the stick through the air, coming from the side, from above, below and at different angles. “You’ll have the most common attack of most weapons, the hack or slash, as some wanker will swing their weapon, trying to chop you into bits or bludgeon the shyke out of you if it’s a blunt weapon.” Radris explained before stepping up to Raiha before tapping her shoulder with the end of the rod. “If a swinging attack is coming from the side, duck down below it of course to make a strike at their lower bodies then. Or lean back out of it’s reach so you can make a grab or strike for an opponent’s arm. Though ducking below will generally be more successful.”

“If the hack comes in from above, below or a shallow angle,” Radris said before reaching out with both of his hands, grasping Raiha’s shoulders and turning her body, forcing a side step movement out of her, “step out of the way, preferably on the outside of their attacking arm. This will give you an opening for his elbow and wrist joints.”

Radris then began tapping Raiha’s legs. “When they’re aiming to lop of your legs, if you can clear the height, jump over the swing.” Radris commented before giving a slow shrug. “However, I find it more effective just to step forward quickly towards the opponent, getting right up in their face. They’ll either find that their arm or hand is bouncing off your leg then, or their swing will be simply be stopped in surprise reaction simply because they find that you’re standing with nothing more than an couple inches of clearance between you and them.”

Radris then began poking Raiha along her stomach. “The next of course is the thrust attack, most common with spears, and piercing swords or daggers.” Radris said before raising the rod to tap along his shoulder again. “For those, begin learning how flexible your body can actually be. It can bend and twist in multiple ways that even Kavala found surprising during her late night romps with Hatot. You’re balance will be important though for this. It’s over if you find yourself leaning back and suddenly falling on your ass.”

He then began poking at Raiha’s leg. “You’re whole body doesn’t even have to move sometimes. When a specific limb is targeted, simply moving the limb is sufficient.” Radris explained. “In the end, attacking the offending limb as the attack is made towards you will yield the best results, however, depending on the skill of the bastard, you’ll not always have that opportunity. So evading is the next best thing. The key thing is, manipulating your body to get out of the way of the attack, rather than trying to back up and get out of it’s reach. As Hatot said, if you get out of the reach of their weapon, that means they’re out of your reach as well. If all you‘re doing is backing away, they have doubled the advantage they already have with their weapon."

“Getting in closer is more effective, as almost every weapon becomes useless for killing once you‘ve closed to a certain distance between you and your foe.” Radris explained as he stepped right up in front of Raiha, raising the road as he began angling it downward towards her. She found that he was having to stretch, for any sort of a thrust attack, and a slight swing found that the part of rod closest to his hand would be the most likely part striking her, causing only shallow cuts where less of the swings force would be found in a weapon . “If you’re this close, anything longer than a short sword will be rendered useless for anything aside from shallow cuts and injuries, and will force them to back up instead. When you’re this close, you’re also in prime position to make strikes using hand to hand, so then you’re in total control until your foe decides to back away from you.”

Radris then took a couple of steps back. Tapping his shoulder with the rod once again. A quick chuckle then escaped his lips before he suddenly swung the rod at Raiha quickly, striking her along the shoulder. “Oh, we’re beginning by the way.” Radris then said, chuckling over his lack of warning as he raised the rod again for another strike.

[Sanctuary] Body and Souls(Raiha)

Postby Raiha on August 11th, 2010, 2:19 am

Raiha let Radris take her hands and move them behind her, first one and then the other. From behind her, he likely couldn't see the way her face tightened at having her arms bound there, but with her hair pulled back, albeit sloppily, he likely saw her ears draw back in an almost animalistic fashion that told the story anyway. There was a rumble from behind him, and almost as soon as it began, Raiha said something in Kontinese that probably meant for the dog to hush. The Dearstalker had not been very impressed with this course of action, and had gotten up, the fur along his spine raised straight up, the broken, gnawed stick forgotten as he took a step towards them, only to stop when the Akontak spoke to him. He refused to lay down again and just stood there, but at least he was no longer growling. So much for clubbing him, Kanikra sighed. Clearly, that was what her sister meant about 'blocking'. Now, calm down. Calm down. You're too tense. Calm. Down.

Her features hadn't relaxed by the time Radris circled back around her, but the Akontak tried to forget the discomfort of having her hands bound and watched Radris as he circled, though her hands were fists behind her back, clenched so tightly that the not-particularly-visible knuckles were white. What he had said about blocking and dodging... evading... made sense. Unless you had something to help catch a weapon, to try to do so with your hands and forearms were stupid and an invitation to break or cut something. That was a lesson that was, perhaps, best left unexperienced and just count the theory as a lesson learned. The tension in her frame was curious - but there was no change in her eyes besides a slight distance to indicate a personality switch. It was either anticipation of the beating that was about to come, or Raiha's twin had finally come out to play... or there was a serious internal discussion going on.

You need to calm down. Stop anticipating the pain and go with it. Just accept it that it's going to hurt. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. If you're all seized up, your movements are going to be stiff, and your body won't do what you're telling it to. Calm down. Raiha looked up at him, watching his face, though she was keeping an eye occasionally on the stick. Don't worry about the stick. Watch his eyes. That's what's going to tell you what he's doing. Watch the eyes. Radris could tell she was looking at him, but how much she was seeing was another question altogether. She was jolted back when he forcibly moved - without her arms for balance, her eyes wide as her hands struggled with the rope to try to find that balance. Raiha stayed on her feet, more by sheer dumb luck and Kanikra shouting at her than anything else.

Like he said. Step into it. You want to avoid a blow, step into it. Raiha adjusted her leg when he was poking at it, turning sideways, adjusting her feet, bringing them back under her shoulders as she bent her knees, wary about being caught off-guard like that again in case he decided to try to push her around again. Her eyes followed his movements, following his hand and his demonstration. And most people depend on a weapon. They'll think you're helpless if they don't see one, especially since we're weird-looking and female. Who knows? They might actually mistake us for a goddess. Next to no one knows about the Akontak if they're not from Riverfall or Mura... petching Mura...

"Okay. I..." Her jaw clenched when the stick came down on her shoulder. She supposed she should have just been glad there was at least some cloth there to provide even the slightest bit of protection as opposed to stick on bare skin. In her head, over and over, she was reciting what few basics Soryn had drilled into her when she was a child. Watch their eyes. Don't sit still. Don't wait for the blows to come. Always keep moving. The worst thing you can do is stand there and let them hit you. Always step into it. Trust your instincts. And never forget that...

The best defense is a spirited offense, Kanikra agreed. Now go! Go! The stick was coming from the top, so step out of the way... she was too slow to completely avoid the second swat, as it came down on her arm, and she stomped her boot towards his foot - she wasn't trying to break the bones, but at the same time, she determined to try to put up some sort of an offense as she stepped towards him, fists still tight, as the exposed arms told him. To get in his face and make him back up with the stick. If he was backing up, it meant he would be on the defensive to try to get the stick at her, right? It wouldn't work for long, she knew - because sooner or later, she was going to be flat on her ass - but Raiha, teeth gritted, was determined to keep trying. She seemed to be watching his eyes for clues on where he was going to hit with the stick instead of just the stick itself. She forced herself to be aware, even if it was only on the outside of her field of vision, where the stick was coming from. There were cues everywhere - from the sound of the stick whistling through the air, to the bunching of his shoulders... she just had to watch and listen for those clues.

True to his usual fashion, Radris didn’t take it easy as he drew the stick up, bringing the second swing down. He found Raiha quicker to react this time as she began turning to move out of the way. Not quick enough, however, as the tip of the rod grazed her on it’s way down. A smile crossed his lips suggesting he was beginning to enjoy himself as his foot slid back when Raiha began to bring it down in a stomp. “Quicker, quicker.” Radris yelled out as the wooden rod was swung down at the leg that had stepped forward.

He saw so many openings in her, none of which came from her hands being bound. The fire within him that was consumed with his love for fighting begged for him to drop the rod and use his hands. The influence of the teacher that Hatot had, constantly standing vigil within their body however, stayed that action. “You’re body is stiff. You’re not a petching plank of wood bobbing back and forth in the water, you’re the water itself!” Radris then yelled, adding audible distraction to the training as she continued to step forward. “At least you’re getting the forward moving right.”

Radris then took a step back, keeping with the theme of the training as he allowed Raiha her forward movements, if for no other reason than it afforded him another swing of the stick. However, he didn’t swing the rod this time, but rather, jabbed it forward in a strait thrust, aiming for the center of Raiha’s chest. A series of other thrusts were then given with the rod, as the tip was aimed towards various points of her body. The stomach, the head, the legs and her shoulders were each target, observing how she moved when he did.

Finally, after close to fifteen chimes, Radris stepped aside as Raiha began stepping forward as he came even with him. The rod swung once again, striking the back of her knee as she fell forward, kneeling along the ground. His hand fell along her shoulder before she tried to rise, the rod was plunged into the earth in front of her. “You’re movement is still that of a novice, but I see the training of another behind those movements.” Radris echoed into her ear. “It’s a shame you didn’t seem to continue it, you’d be getting less welts.”

“In any event.” Radris said as he slowly reached down, tugging on the bindings around her wrists. “Let out the little blue sister in you. I want to see what both of you can do separately here. After all, it’s not just you learning.”

[Sanctuary] Body and Souls(Raiha)

Postby Raiha on August 22nd, 2010, 4:45 am

Raiha did her best. But her best was definitely far from good enough. Welts crisscrossed almost every bit of exposed skin, and probably a good deal of that under what clothing she wore. Angry purple marks were vibrant on her face, the value of ducking having been impressed many times on her before she finally got the hang of it. But through the pain, a very unfamiliar pain, and yelling from Radris and Kanikra, Raiha clenched her jaw and dealt with it. That was the only way to end it, after all, was to get through it and become better at it. If she got better at it, then there simply would be less of a chance at people hitting her more often. She found no enjoyment or gratification in the welts that were springing up with every slash she didn't manage to avoid. There was just a growing, determined stubbornness to avoid them. It was an odd form of "carrot and stick" training, but it was certainly driving the point home.

If she could manage to loosen up, she'd have less of a problem, she knew. But try as she might to settle into it, it wasn't working. Kanikra knew why, and sighed with exasperation and annoyance, continuing to try what coaching she could offer. She knew that the Akalak's distraction technique was working, and sought to counter it by making herself just that much louder. She shouted to drown out Radris, keeping what he was saying to translate and reinforce the lesson later. But beyond that, this was a lesson Raiha had had to learn on her own. Kanikra wasn't going to do it for her. Towards the last couple of chimes, she was coping better, keeping her center low, constantly advancing on him, twisting and arching to try to avoid the lash. Having her arms bound behind her disrupted her balance, and it took her ten chimes to figure out how to accommodate that and work with it, all the while making lunges with her feet, aimed at his calves and below, no longer worrying about actually connecting – he was going to move faster than she was, clearly. Besides, it forced him to back up more.

When she finally hit the dirt, Diallo came charging, across the courtyard. He skidded to a stop in front of her and began nosing her face, licking the angry looking welts as he glared at Radris before being ordered back to his post by his mistress in grim Kontinese. The agitated Deerstalker refused, though it drew his attention back to Raiha, and just stayed there, offering his considerable bulk for her to lean against. She rested her sweaty forehead against the dog's muscular neck before nosing him a little, head angled slightly to listen to what Radris was saying about another teacher. "He didn't stay long in Mura... didn’t matter anyway… my mother discouraged my learning." She didn't see the need to tell him that as a child, she had scared off potential playmates anyway before any in-depth training, and before any training at all, really. Her mother had been concerned about her daughter alienating herself still further. She had had the best intentions, but the consequences had run deep.

Well, you heard him, Kanikra told her twin as she gave Raiha a mental shove. My turn.

Good luck? Raiha offered as Kanikra took control before she actually gave it up. Kanikra had no need to wait for Raiha to unclench her grip on her control - she already knew how to shove her away, and did so whenever she really felt like it. The Akontak rolled her wrists once they were free, lined with rope burns, rotating and flexing them. Those abrasions would fade when Rak'keli's mark was applied. But as it was, she caressed Diallo's face and stood up.

"Go on," Kanikra ordered the dog in Kontinese. "Go." She stood up, then, turning to face Radris. This time, the dog actually moved, heading back to where he had been resting before turning and standing there, tension in every limb in what was clearly an aggressive stance. Kanikra looked at the dog at that, her eyes on his before looking away and back up at the Akalak. There was nothing in her eyes to indicate a switch, not like his own – the Akontak provided real physical no clues besides a lot more fluidity of body movement… which could have, admittedly, come from having her hands and arms back. But there had been a particular inflection in her voice when she had spoken to the dog that suggested to him Raiha’s other half had indeed come out to play when he had called her out. Kanikra’s stance seemed a lot more natural to her than it had to the one whom she shared a body with, and even as she took up a stance against him, the welts were slowly going down, leaving her smooth blue skin its normal, natural colour. That, obviously, was Rak’keli’s power at work – she had thought quickly on it, and figured she had best mend her skin for the next round. The very last thing she wanted was for more severe injuries to necessitate bothering Kavala to get them fixed.

Kanikra studied the older Akalak, then, waiting to see how this was going to go. Would he use his hands or the stick? Either way, this time would be different. “Kanikra,” she introduced herself, already ready to resume training as she watched him for cues.

Radris slowly circled around, his hand lowering as he grasped the stick, picking it up once again. “Not much one for words, are you?” Radris said as he observed Kanikra for a moment. “No comments, no trash talk, no threats, no insults.”

Radris smirked then, tilting his head as the stick was laid along his shoulder, his other hand resting along his waist. “You’re one of those, quiet intimidating killer darker halves, aren’t you?” Radris said as he peered down at her curiously. “Either that, or you’re just trying to concentrate on some sort of counter.”

Radris continued to circle around Kanikra, an almost amused smirk on his face as he continued to tap the stick along his shoulder. He then gave a slow shrug. “Well, in any event,” Radris then said, “let’s see what you can do.”

Radris then suddenly drew his free hand back, making it appear as though he was about to strike Kanikra with his hand to hand skills first off, but in the end it was a feint, as the stick suddenly came swinging around from it’s resting place along his shoulder, aimed strait for the side of her head. He then began charging forward, swinging his stick repeatedly at her, seeing how the more aggressive side would react to suddenly being on the receiving end of aggression. “Come on then, whacha got for me kiddo?” Radris roared, swinging at Kanikra’s leg before bringing it back in to a thrust towards her chest. “Every time you try to block or grab the stick, I’m gonna hit you with my hand.”

[Sanctuary] Body and Souls(Raiha)

Postby Raiha on October 20th, 2010, 2:43 am

Gold eyes met red whenever he passed around her. She said nothing – she didn’t have to. There wasn’t any point in wasting her breath either - because talking was a distraction, and while he was good enough to multitask at this sort of thing, to talk and strike at the same time, she was not. Sure, there was the psychological aspect of what was going on here – though it didn’t bother her unduly. Some people felt the need to make talk they couldn’t back up. This one had already proved he could back it up. For her to try to do the same demanded far more of Kanikra’s focus than she wanted to give up in a a pissing contest. Raiha had already exposed a great deal of their weaknesses to and ignorance of what was practically an Akalak birthright. If, Kanikra mused to herself, they’d been raised here, things would be much different. So very, very different.

But as it was, they hadn’t been – and there were the advantages of that, too. She had a feeling she had a lot of freedom thanks to their Konti mother’s upbringing compared to what she would have had here. Raiha might have had more of a backbone than she did, or she might actually put up a fight for the body for when she didn’t feel like giving it up. She might have learned to fight for it instead of going where Kanikra would be too bored to do any damage without a target, where she didn’t have people she could antagonize and hurt just because she could. Kavala had been right in some aspects – she did have a tendency to pick on weak, insipid Konti who wouldn’t dare fight back… though as it was, a kitten had to learn how to sharpen its claws on something

But things were changing. Kanikra had got her wish – to get the petch out of Mura and go discover their father’s home. It was a reminder that one should be careful of what they wished for – because with Raiha’s new friends and companions, she was actually having a reason to put up a fight besides sheer fear of what Kanikra would do. This wasn’t Mura, where she could take Yakini and Diallo and Uzima and go hunt. The dangers of Cyphrus where immeasurable and numerous… but the last thing she wanted… the very last… was to end up a broodmare. The loss of biological autonomy was not something she would stand for. She had no idea if the council would even attempt making an Akontak a nakivak, and she wasn’t planning to find out.

Her ears were drawn back, but the expression on her face was blank but for a bit of interest in the lessons being taught… and an appraising sort of light in her eyes. It wasn’t the light of one looking at a potential partner, but a hidden effort to figure out what he was going to do next in order to prepare herself for it when it came. It wasn’t so hard for him to spot her doing such a thing, not with his experience as both a fighter and a teacher. Where Raiha had waited and tried to counter, this one was far more analytical, if first appearances meant anything.

When the stick came for the side of her head, Kanikra stepped into the blow, bringing her body downwards with far more of the fluidity that he had been demanding of Raiha, her white hair flying with the force of the movement. Unlike Raiha, who had done her best to stick with her fingers, the sister now in charge of the body was not content to merely stick with her fingers and the open hand. She wasn’t stupid enough to think that her fingers would do anything other than twist and potentially sprain and snap if she actually managed to connect. Raiha hadn’t expected to – Kanikra was going to try anyway. The best shot might well be the groin, but hitting an Akalak in the family jewels would probably not be a wise course of action… She still felt the wind of the stick as it skimmed her hair, only to clench her jaw and keep moving forward, her boots aimed for his feet. But she didn’t back up. She stepped into the blows when they came, trying to intercept his body with hers when he moved for the leg, trying to cut off the swing as she aimed a punch for the side of his abdomen, trying to go under the rib cage towards the kidney, concentration in those distant, gold eyes.

Is it a bad thing I kind of want to cheer you on? Raiha asked her twin.

No. Now shut up and think it so I can concentrate, Kanikra told her. Trust the bleeding heart to be a distraction when she least needed it, though it amused her – how many times had she disrupted Raiha that way? The thrust from the stick caught her off-balance, though, and she stumbled backward, staying upright and angling her leg to try to catch his instep with her next stomp. Her goal was to try to stay too close for him to have much room to use the stick.

Radris noticed it all, the way she stepped forward, the lack of any hesitation. It was just as he predicted, the difference between Kanikra’s and Raiha’s soul. It was similar for him and Hatot. Hatot was calm, practical and had the tactical mind. He would always pace himself, going for the most opportune strike that presented itself, the more disciplined of the two of them. Radris was strait to the point, and methodical, using psychological and striking to inflict as much damage as he could, no matter the target or the consequences, his emotion often putting others off balance. It was those reasons that Kanikra would find some of her strikes connecting. The strike to the foot, the blow to his abdomen. Both of them found their mark, though she found subtle defensive movements being made as they fell as Radris lifted his foot slightly or tightened his abdomen muscles and turned his hips into the punch, causing the shock of the blow to be felt all the way up to her shoulder.

Though it might be tough, even for her dark half, Kanikra could tell that he was taking it easy on her. She could see the restraint in those fierce red eyes, that look that said he wanted to throw the stick away and completely unload, to go all out. Finally the strike to her abdomen came. He suddenly yelled out as she stomped her foot down at his instep, but his yell didn’t come from pain, but in an amused tone as his toes curled backwards under his foot, lifting it upwards as Kanikra’s foot and leg was forced upwards, beginning to throw her backwards and off balance more. His foot suddenly dropped then, sweeping down as it caught under Kanikra’s foot as she flew up into the air, her body hovering four feet off the ground for a moment before falling down to the ground with a subtle thud. “You seem more focused, less timid.” Radris said as he began circling around Kanikra, the stick pressing into the center of her chest as she was forced back to the ground as he continued to talk. “Still, there’s something in your eyes, something missing. A balance.”

Radris then slowly crouched down, his head hovering over Kanikra’s. “Why do you two hold each other back?” Radris then simply asked, tilting his head to the side slightly.

[Sanctuary] Body and Souls(Raiha)

Postby Raiha on November 2nd, 2010, 12:48 am

Both Raiha and Kanikra knew that every battle, physical or otherwise, required confidence in order to win. But the difference between the two was that Kanikra had some measure of confidence – not enough to be cocky, but enough to accept that while it was an essentially hopeless, one-sided fight, there was no point in giving up on it. Because otherwise, how did you learn? There were some things you could learn merely by knowing the theory. But combat in any form wasn’t one of them. There was only one way to learn it, and that was to practice. To practice endlessly, over and over and over again until the movements became instinct, became as natural as breathing. The fact that occasionally one of her strikes actually landed did help with the confidence. It made it a little easier, mentally, to keep going. She knew he was playing with her, holding back and away from his full potential. If she was more easily enraged, or even prone to emotional bursts at all, it might have goaded her into useless, unnecessary actions that set herself up for more harm than good.

The shock of the hit, even though she’d hit him, reverberated all the way up to her shoulder, giving her a moment’s hesitation with that arm before trying again. But just like that, with one step, she found herself up in the air, an almost-comical expression of faint surprise on her face, almost too quickly to contemplate how he’d pulled that off before she was on the ground with a thump. Well. That was like falling off a horse. Now the only thing left to do was to get back up – and try as she did to do that, it seemed Radris wasn’t having any of it. So she sat there, gathering her long limbs to get up quickly for when he finally moved that stick. Backing up hadn’t done the trick, and clearly he was interested in talking to her, so there wasn’t much of a point in kicking him.

But Kanikra leaned back, away from the stick, and hooked her hands under one of her knees for balance. She didn’t answer for a moment, considering how best to explain it to him. How she may have explained it to Kavala was different. The Konti didn’t live the way that they did, or understand, try as she may, the way that they lived and what sacrifices they made and shared and what battles they may have fought. Theory didn’t equal experience. It was very different to talk about it to an Akalak. And yet, Kanikra was guarded about it. She was a very private being; and this was her business, hers and Raiha’s, and no one else’s. She’d given her twin enough strife over airing ‘family business’ in public. To have to listen to Raiha yammer on about it… Kanikra didn’t need to hear it. “Growing up in Mura ruined her perceptions for the world outside of it,” there was a faint look of disgust there before it vanished, as quickly as it had appeared. “It's different for you... you grew up here. But my sister and I have very different ways of looking at the world around us. She does not trust me or my methods for dealing with things, and hers are essentially useless for the world that you and I see clearly.”

There was a moment of silence as Radris stared down at Kanikra. He gave a slow shrug, listening over her explanation. He then finally exhaled, tapping the stick along the ground a couple of times in a moment of contemplation before shaking his head for a moment. “Well, I won’t tell you how to run your lives, I’m just a guy who loves to get into a good scrap, and push the buttons of others to get a rise out of them.” Radris said as he slowly stood up. “I will say this though: Hatot has a weak perspective in a lot of things. He prefers an approach of diplomacy when it can be approached, rather than simply slapping someone silly like I would prefer, but he’s no fool either. Course, he wasn’t raised on Mura either.”

Radris then tossed the stick away, his arms folding over each other in front of him as he looked down to Kanikra. “Still, she’s putting forth effort to learn a combating skill, so perhaps her view of the world isn’t so clouded as you suspect anymore.” Radris then suggested. “While I don’t always agree with Hatot’s sugar coated view of things, I’ve come to realize there is so much more we can accomplish together, rather than separately.”

Radris took a couple of steps away, not bothering to give her a helping hand up as Hatot might have. His back was facing Kanikra for the moment. “As the old saying goes,” Radris then said as he looked towards Kanikra over his shoulder, “united we stand, divided we fall. Just liquor for thought I suppose.”

Radris then quickly spun around, thrusting his hand forward in a blurred motion towards Kanikra. When it appeared that he would strike, his fingers stopped just short of her, the tips hovering only a few centimeters from her eyes. “Bah, your defense still sucks Jamoura balls.” Radris said, slowly withdrawing his hands. “Well, it’s only the first day of training too I suppose.”

Please, do not upset me. I would hate to unintentionally rip your throat out in a fit of rage.

[Sanctuary] Body and Souls(Raiha)

Kanikra listened in silence as she got up, her fingers ghosting over her welts as she instinctively reached for Rak'keli's power in order to lessen them. He had a point, and Kanikra would be the first to admit it. Hatot hadn't raised on Mura, but here, in Riverfall. There was something seriously wrong with their having two souls, she was beginning to think. Opposite extremes. But Hatot, at least, probably knew when to resort to violence and abandon the sinking ship that was diplomacy. Kanikra thoroughly doubted Raiha had the sense to gauge that, and even if she did, she wouldn't know how to deal with it then.

Thank you very much for your vote of confidence, Raiha grumbled at her twin. There was no teeth to it - she was used to it, and this was merely more of the same. This was Kanikra being Kanikra. Though there had been a gradually growing difference in how tightly Kanikra kept her cards to her chest. Before, Kanikra had kept her decision making hidden from her sister soul. Maybe it had more to do with the fact that Raiha was growing up, and was beginning to pick out more and more, or slipping through the walls that she had to keep everyone out. Or maybe it had more to do with Kanikra opening up to try to explain things, because Raiha was less terrified now of what Kanikra could do here without getting them both into colossal amounts of trouble that Kanikra didn't want to deal with just yet - the 'do as I say because I say so' approach was no longer quite so effective.

I'm just being honest. You need to be honest with your assessments of yourself if you want to survive in this world. Stop being so delusional, Kanikra scolded.

There's a difference between being honest and nit-picking everything, Raiha retorted. I'm trying. You can't change the riverbed overnight.

Of course you can, with the right amount of force and incentives. "Compromises," Kanikra admitted eventually. "She's conceded to this, true..." It was a bit one-sided. Kanikra hadn't really agreed to giving up anything in exchange, after all. United we stand, divided we fall…

Food for thought.

Before she could continue with where she was going with that, in the space of less than a breath, his hand was in front of her face, and Kanikra looked up at him, one eyebrow quirked until the hand was withdrawn. "It's been some time. One has to start somewhere," she dusted herself off. "Do you want to continue today, or tomorrow?" She wasn't sure if they had lessons to teach in town or not, but there were going to be chores for her to do soon. And Kanikra wouldn't mind practicing more with that bowl when she had some spare time to do it in.
