Teresa Deepseeker “He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.” Name: Teresa Deepseeker Nicknames: Resa, Tess Gender: Female Age: 24 Date of Birth: 52th Summer, 489AV Height: 5'8'' Weight: 130 lbs Hair Color: Blonde Eye Color: Blue Birthplace: Anchorage Flotilla Gnosis Marks: First mark of Oceanus Worshipper of: Laviku, Rhaus, Zulrav, Kihala Physical discription Physically Teresa is typical for a Svefra. At 5’8 and 130lb she seems rather gangly and all limbs, although she moves with the grace of a dancer from years of traversing rocking decks and dodging rigging. She is not considered a classic beauty as her breast are small and her hips are boney, but she has never been self conscious of this fact and has spent many days on her casinor in nothing but a pinned skirt and chest binding. If she bothers with top coverings at all. When asked which is her favorite feature her immediate answer would be her hair, a light golden blonde which she prefers to wear short enough to stay out of the way and unfettered. And as such is liable to complain in any situation in which wearing it tied is required. Her eyes are dark blue and no matter how common the feature is among Svefra she always wore that feature with pride considering them as much a blessing from Laviku as the mark that slides across the surface of her skin. Character concept Bold, fiery and a self described ‘thrill seeker’ Teresa is the physical embodiment of the Svefra reputation among the landowners of Mizahar. She is not afraid to talk back and snarky remarks are as natural as breathing to her. Not to say she doesn't have a compassionate side as she is just as quick to offer an embrace to a troubled friend or extend a hand to a stranger. All products of living with a pod where family live, work, and play within arms reach of each other and the relationship and trust of ones kin is the reason that the Svefra have flourished in the harsh, dangerous oceans of Mizahar. Teresa is a hard worker and knows very well the hardship of life at sea, where the simple improper tying of rigging could cause a sailor to meet Dira decades too early. To acknowledge this uncertainty she takes to the “happy to survive another day and now must celebrate this achievement” mentality. This translates to a very free spirited mind and love of big celebrations. She has absolutely no reservations about joining the dancing or festivities no matter who or what it’s for, to her life and indeed everyday must be celebrated. For the guarantee there will be a next is a luxury in a place so dangerous and uncertain. Teresa is an avid dreamer and often fantasizes about things she wishes to do with her life and places she wishes to see. This trait was sparked when her mother brought back a necklace from a trading voyage to Riverfall with seven different colored glass beads. Her mother wove fantastical tales around it, claiming that every bead came from a different region of Mizahar and about the strange creatures that lived so far from Laviku's grace. Spurred by these stories Teresa's ultimate goal is to create her own garment that displays her travels and bring back a story that would be told among her pod for generations. History Teresa grew up as the oldest of three to Marina and Sal Deepseeker. Her childhood consisted of following the adults around the various tasks needed to keep their ship seaworthy, chasing after the children of the pod and coercing the foreign passengers into telling stories of what life inland is like. Belonging to a pod that was often amiable with well meaning merchants and travellers she was often indulged with great stories and slowly started gaining a longing to discover these grand places for herself. Although these stories fascinated her to no end she never got more that a day inland whenever the pod landed at port before the sea invariably called her back. It was then her father gave her his casinor and encouraged her to explore what Laviku had blessed his children with instead of finding the origin of her stories. This sustained her for many years and she grew up strong and healthy, working to rid the sea of blasphemers, and even entertained a suitor or two. But her unsated curiosity reached a peak when in spring of 513 after returning from a trip to Riverfall her mother presented Teresa with a beaded necklace. Stories of the monsters, struggles, and victories of every region were woven into this next to worthless trinket. Marina Deepseeker's love of these overarching stories were well known to the members of the pod who enjoyed them almost every night, and even to those who never knew her would be able to tell the tales were complete lies. But the simple necklace rooted a new goal in the young Svefra's head, to come back with an authentic trophy, something to be proud of with epics that would be told for generations. Not two season after her pod left the Riverfall port Teresa bid her kin farewell and said she would be back, right after she finds what she looking for. When ask what this 'thing' is that she is looking for, thats drawing her away from the only life she knew, she smiled and laughed, shouting over her shoulder as she climbed aboard her casinor “I wouldn’t want to ruin the fun with rational thinking!”. Heirloom: A necklace with seven glass beads. Rather hodge-podge looking with all the beads being a different size, colour and density. Gifted to Teresa by her mother when she left the Fortilla and she rarely takes it off. The Always Baffled A twenty-foot Casinor passed down to Teresa from her father once her wandering tendencies became apparent. Its name comes from a strong linage proving that yes, Svefra do drink. Its pale cedar deck and peeling whitewash hull is weather stained, as all loved ships tend to be, and kept immaculately tidy if a little rundown. The ship is one of the few that keeps the cabin below deck by way of a waterproof hatch. Sacrificing cargo room for safety, and a lesser chance of the whole bunk being washed away in the next storm. Its crest has been changed with each new hand (though oddly the name has always stayed) and can be seen through the ghosts of leftover paint ringing the mast and either side of the prow. After receiving the Casinor when she turned fifteen, Teresa painted three black triangles on either side of the hull to distinguish her vessel from the others at the Fortilla. |
