The Bubbling Pot Eating House The Bubbling Pot, though the same color as every other building in the city, stands out for being noticeably large. It takes up a chunk of space in the Southern Quarter, and is probably one of the busiest places in the city. It’s composed largely of two rooms: One square one for eating and a thinner rectangular one at the back for the cooks. The larger section is fairly simple, with three sets of doors to the outside all along its candle-lined walls. There are three rows of sturdy wooden tables and benches for patrons to sit and eat at when their food has been cooked. The kitchen area has most of the preparation tools needed, along with a variety of spices to add a little more interest to the food they create. There is a long window in between the two, for food drop-off/pick-up, and so the diners can have a little bit of entertainment watching the chefs work. There is no door between the rooms, and instead a worker would enter the kitchen through a small back door. To keep times accurately, there are large grandfather clocks in both the main dining area and the kitchen. The eating house runs in a simple and orderly manner, and though it can get busy at times, people are forced to wait their turn for their food. Because Nyka does not sell food, but instead gives rations to its residents, people can bring in these to be cooked by more skilled hands… for a small price. Patrons start at the beginning of the long window, and hand in what rations they have to a particular chef, along with their name and the current time. They can then wait by the window for their food, or take a seat and wait to be called. When it’s done, the meal can be picked up at the far end, and money deposited. The cooking generally takes 10 – 30 chimes, depending on the ingredients given. Because of the large seating area, and prospect of decent quality food, the Bubbling Pot has turned into something of a social hotspot, where friends and family gather for a meal and a conversation at one of the large tables. Nykans have also made many a new friend waiting in line, so the business has earned itself a good reputation among the city. Though monks are a rarity here, some occasionally visit to speak to family, but it’s really only the Southern Quarter monks that do so. All others stay away, for the simple danger of entering another Celestial’s quarter.
NPCs Rose Imme
Name: Rose Imme DOB: 458 AV, Summer 1st POB: Nyka Race: Human Title: Head Chef Gnosis: N/A Skills: Cooking - 63, Observation - 21 Information: Rose was brought up in the Southern Quarter by parents who were both chefs, both working in the Bubbling Pot. By the time she was 12, she was helping out there, providing cooking tools for her parents as needed. When she became a better chef, she took a full time job at the eating house, and enjoyed it immensely. She continued to work there after her parent's deaths, and inherited her mother's job as head chef. She is blunt and stern, tolerating no idling or loitering by employees or patrons. She keeps the place running at a quick pace, making sure every cook -including herself- is always working on an order at any given time. She also keeps a constant eye on their grandfather clock, keeping them on time and never skimping a customer on food. Though there is a possibility for corruption in the pricing system, she always works honorably, and expects her employees to do the same, even if it means less money.
