Basic Information Race: Human Gender: Male Born: 78th of Fall, 486 AV (23) Height: 5’6 Weight: 154 lbs Physical Description Where miners tend to be burly and stoop-shouldered, Marius possesses a lithe physique that is ideal for subterranean exploration. He has dark, intelligent eyes, short hair, and clean-shaven cheeks that lend him a boyish charm – when he has time to maintain his appearance, that is. There are two distinct sides to Marius; the gentleman and the miner. His first persona is dapper, well-dressed, and a bit of a wastrel. In the mines, however, he attires himself in leathers and a climbing harness that completes his transformation into a gray-faced golem of the earth. Character Concept Marius is the heir to a proud lineage of miners, prospectors, and smiths. “Minerals are in our blood,” the Meros are wont to proclaim, and Marius is no exception. While he finds a singular pleasure in extracting ores and minerals from the rock, his true passion is exploration. He is a thrill-seeker by nature, yet remains cool even in dire predicaments. To say Marius is hard to perturb is an understatement; he is so detached that he neglects to consider the consequences of his actions. He is agreeable and erudite, but tactless. Such comments as ‘that dress makes you look like a trollop’ and ‘is that a spot of piss on your breeches?” have not ingratiated him with the right people. Marius is also quite lecherous. His bold propositions are more often than not targeted at wealthy, exotic, or powerful women – and occasionally at men. Apart from discovering a vast cavern of riches, Marius dreams of establishing his own mine, and having fifteen sons and daughters to explore tight places. In addition to caves and minerals, he likes porridge, mushrooms, and bats. History Marius was born in Zeltiva. Like most scions of the Mero clan, he grew up around minerals and their related arts – due mostly to frequent visits by his eccentric relatives. In particular, Marius was close to his ‘Nuncle Ambrose, a half-mad smelter of ore and occasional poet. He still possesses fond memories of listening to his ‘Nuncle recite odes to schist and tin in the family’s rock garden. Marius’ mother, Shaith, is a well-known blacksmith and his father, Dareon, a lecturer of geology at the University of Zeltiva. However, neither of these specific obsessions translated to their son. Working with metals was ‘too hot’ and geology ‘too dull’ for his tastes. Marius instead developed a fascination with the charting and extraction ore from cave systems. Having explored most of the caves in the Zeltivan area, Marius relocated to Syliras and worked in the iron mines for several years. However, he eventually bored of the labor and returned to Zeltiva, where he boarded a ship headed for mineral-poor Denval. Marius hopes to locate and extract ore from the region, thus eliminating the need for imports and enriching himself in the process.
