Day 18, Season Summer, 513 AV
Rinya took the offered shirt without a word, pulling it on and then securing her quiver across her back. While the Akalak picked up and swung his branch, Rinya examined the arrows she had shot. They didn’t look good actually and Rinya suppressed a sigh. But while they would be good enough to stab with, she wouldn’t be able to carry them. Handing the least damaged to the male, he could at least have something sharp to stab with if worse came to worse.
Gripping her bow with her firing hand, she wrapped her free arm around the large Akalak, holding onto his pants at the waist. He was so much bigger than she was she couldn’t get her arm all the way around him. Lucky for her he seemed decently capable of holding his own. The stride was a little slower than she would have liked, but it was better than nothing. Rinya was grateful however that this was mostly flat land. The grass restricted her vision, but it also meant she didn’t have to work too hard to get him towards Riverfall. If they were lucky it would only take a bell or two to get there if they could keep at this pace.
”My name is Rinya.” It had taken her several chimes before she realized that this could be a very
long walk. She kept her eyes scanning the area ahead of them, something she was very used to as a hunter, but she was beginning to feel a little guilty. She normally didn’t take to just shooting off her arrows like that, and now she had injured someone because of it. While silence probably would have been the better choice, she swore Jorin’s influence was wearing off on her. Friendliness was more his thing than hers.
”Sorry about the whole arrow thing, but really—next time don’t go crawling around on the ground. Visuals are one of your best friends out here.” Well that was a half decent apology… at least in terms of coming from her.
A flash of black amoung the grass caused Rinya to jolt to a stop. Had she just imagined that? Frowning a little she slowly released the Akalak’s arm and drew an arrow. Her eyes flit from left to right, her feet drawing a slow circle to view the entire area around them. The grass was mostly quiet, rustling with a gentle breeze, which meant she wasn’t going to be able to pick up much in the grass like she had before.
Shyke this is bad luck today… Huffing softly to herself, she pulled the arrow nearly taunt in the bow.
After several chimes she was beginning to think it was just her imagination. Glancing upwards at the male, out of the corner of her eye the black blur charged out of the grass snarling. Rinya fired the arrow with very little aim, not at all surprised when the arrow sailed harmlessly passed a very large angry looking cat… a panther by the looks of it. Cursing under her breath she barely had time to fling herself out of the way of its’ body, feeling a painful jolt in her wrists and knees as she hit the ground. The cat disappeared into the grass again, and Rinya knew immediately that it was getting ready for another attack. What was a black panther doing in the middle of the Sea of Grass?
If she knew anything about the hunt, it was going to focus on her for the moment. It was wary of the large Akalak. She looked like a much easier target of the two. Snatching her bow up from the ground in front of her, she readied another arrow, wincing as her muscles protested.
”It just had to be a cat didn’t it?”
