The Letter

Postby Arthur Graystone on September 9th, 2013, 11:03 am

"That man?" Arthur thought. "Is she talking about that guy who ran off or who he was looking for?" Trying to wrap his head around the situation, Arthur felt Autumn bump something into his pocket. With a good luck, she started leaving, which meant Arthur was probably gonna get lost again. But Autumn was nice enough to give him a description and some nice instructions beforehand. It was like she was going out of her way to make sure he got into his ow gang. "Why are you helping me anyway?" Unfortunately, she was already gone by the time he asked.

Shrugging, Arthur reached in his pocket to look at whatever she gave him. "Is this the gift?" Arthur thought. "In that case, better go tell what's his face the game's off." And with that, he went in search of Garin.

The Letter

The search would have been a lot easier if Arthur actually knew the man's name was Garin. All he had to go on was a description, but even then it wasn't much. Arthur's version of a description was "some guy with brown hair and a beard." And there were millions of guys with beards. So, as you can imagine, his questioning of others got him nowhere.

Out of shear stupidity, he decided to climb a building to try to get a better vantage point. In his mind, he thought he'd be able to see through the crowd if he was higher up. Unfortunately, after the difficult climb, he saw nothing but a sea of heads below. "Maybe I should send up a flare or something," Arthur thought. But since he didn't have one, he decided to just shout.

"HEY! WILL THE GUY THAT JUST MUGGED ME A WHILE AGO COME UP THIS BUILDING AND MEET ME! I GOT AUTUMN'S GIFT SO I'M CALLING THE GAME OFF! IF YOU WANNA PIECE OF THIS GET UP HERE NOW! And then he waited, ignoring the crazy stares he got.

Garin practically froze at the shout. This man truly was a special kind of stupid, wasn't he? Keeping his dagger up his sleeve, just in case, he turned and began to shove his way to the spot. Along the way, the possibility of a trick crossed his mind more than once. He looked around for a bit, then finally looked up.

... 'This guy must be stupid and crazy.

Yet, he sheathed his dagger and made the climb anyways.

Once he reached the top, his first words were: "You aren't too smart, are you?"

As crazy as his idea was, it still managed to get results. It took a while, but Garin managed the climb onto the rooftop and came to greet Arthur with the word he'd come accustomed to hearing. "Actually," Arthur answered, "I'm a genius." Putting his hands on his hips, he tilted his head back and let out a "sailor's laugh." Unfortunately, it just looked crazy coming from him.

"Now then," he continued. "What's your name anyway? 'Cus I gotta know who the guy with the face I'm about to rub something in's name is! BOOM!" As he made that sound effect he pulled out the item Autumn had given him. It was actually just a small letter. "Read it and weep! And inside is..." Ripping it open, Arthur turned it over expecting piles of money to fall out. All he got was a piece of paper.

"What the hell is this? What a rip off! I want my money back!"

Garin's frown turned to a scowl at the laugh. The man was obviously insane. "Rub what in? You 're awfully smug fir someone who got his ass handed to him." His expression changes to a smirk.

He looks at the paper, then bends over and picks it up. His eyes widen. "By the gods... This'd be worth a fortune to Robert... Or the Night Eyes..."

He suddenly pockets it and gets ready to fight the man should he reject his prposal, drawing his dagger. On this list, are the names of the Night Eye's agents. We can take this to Robert, or the Eyes, if we can find them. I'm willing to split the prophets with you, half and half, so long as you don't object to me holding the letter."

There is something about his stance that shows he knows what he's doing. He also knows to expect throwing attacks, due to experience.

As the other guy started looking over the paper, Arthur was ready to leave to chase down Autumn. What kind of cheapskate gives somebody paper as a gift? He was going to get the real prize if he had to get lost in the street for months to come.

But he was saved the trouble when the man started to say how valuable the letter was. "Thank you Autumn." When the man offered to split the profits, Arthur was about to just take the money and run. However, there was one major problem...he had no idea where to run too. For all he knew he could have ran in a complete circle and came back to the rooftop.

And then there was the problem of what to do with the letter. Even if he found and gave it to the Night Eyes guys, then what would happen? It was better to just split the profit and save himself the trouble. "You've got yourself a deal Noname," Arthur said holding out his hand for a handshake.

Garin sneers at the outstretched hand. He doesn't shake it. He looks the man up and down with new disdain. He sheathes his dagger.

"My name is Garin. Yours?" He moves the letter to a pocket inside his coat as they talk, eyeing him suspiciously.

He sighed. "Well. The first order of business is who we bring the letter. Robert would be easy. The night eyes...? Not so much. If we bring it to the night eyes, we'll need to get them to come to us."

Though Noname was nice enough to give his name, he wasn't quite in the mood for a handshake. "Well you're no fun at all." When Garin asked about Arthur's name, though, the rogue got confused. "Weren't you listening a while ago. Arthur Graystone remember. You really need to pay more attention."

When Garin started talking about who to give the letter, Arthur chose the Night Eyes right away. They just seemed cooler to him. As for how to get the Night Eyes to come to them, Arthur offered the shouting over rooftops plan. "It worked for you so it should work for them, too."
