Appearance
Name: Eadon (Pronounced: O-in)
Race: Eadon is half Inarta and half Human, making him a Mixed Human.
Caste: As a result of his mixed heritage and his human mothers caste, Eadon has been assigned to the Dek or Drudge caste in the Inarta society.
Gender: Eadon is male.
Age: Eadon is sixteen years of age.
Birthday: Eadon was born on the 12th day of Autumn in 496 AV.
Birthplace: Eadon was born in the city of Wind Reach.
Appearance: Relatively young and fairly small by human and Inarta standards, Eadon has the somewhat ignominious distinction of being one of the very few people living in Wind Reach who does not also have red hair of some kind. Being a mixed breed, with a human mother and an Inarta father, he takes after his mother the most in appearance, inheriting her sandy blonde hair and storm grey eyes. Likely to punch anyone who would even suggest it, Eadon could most readily be described as classically cute, with his generally good looks and small size. Standing at only 5' 6" and with more or less no muscle or body fat anywhere on him, he is pretty much useless at physical tasks requiring any form of strength or body mass. His small size is mostly a direct result of malnutrition, growing up as something of an outcast in Inarta society due to his mixed heritage and comparatively unusual features.
Due to his low place in the caste based society of his home, he is almost always dirty with both himself and his clothes covered in soot, dirt and a variety of other unpleasant substances best left unnamed. Eadon rarely has time to devote to personal hygiene and bathing. Eadon is not always, but quite often, sporting some kind of injury or another, and is usually covered in a patchwork of purple, black and blue from bruises and minor scrapes and cuts. As a result of years spent as the lowest of the low, his presence is usually barely noticeable. When you have to perform all of the worst jobs, making yourself appear all but invisible to those more important than you is a useful skill to have.
Eadon wears the typical Lontev tunic typical of his station, though his own one is old and somewhat ragged compared to those of the majority of his peers. If his array of bruises and other injuries get particularly bad or noticeable, Eadon will on occasion wear an equally ragged black shirt with his Lontev to hide them. He wears his hair short, with a small braid at the back with a variety of old chipped and broken glass beads that he has managed to scrounge up while working in the glassworks cleaning. He often will have his arms crossed, or if feeling nervous will run his hand through his hair unconsciously. As most of his time is spent on rather unsavoury tasks within Wind Reach, Eadon is fairly pale and lacks the tan more common in those of a higher caste who occasionally get to leave the caves.
Character Concept
Eadon is a person who, due to birth and circumstance, is placed at the lowest level in society due to things that are entirely out of his own control. Indeed, things that would not prove an issue for him in most other places or societies. Despite this, he is also a person who works hard and tries his best in everything he does, despite or perhaps because of that adversity. Probably the three words that would best describe his personality to someone who has never met him before are tenacious, resilient and determined. Eadon tries his very best to fit in to and be a contributing part of the Inarta society, but is restricted from advancing his own place as a result of his mixed heritage and others viewing him as something of an outsider.
His hard-working and determined nature is not something that is readily apparent, as Eadon will often come across as shy, withdrawn and almost mono-syllabic. He is an intelligent person, and one who is skilled in a variety of things, but those talents are not made obvious as he does not really broadcast them to others. In his mind it is better to be under-appreciated and left alone, than victimised and with his own abilities and ideas recognised Eadon has something of an inferiority complex, considering himself to be weaker, stupider and all around less skilled in more or less anything when measured up against any full blooded Inarta. While this is not necessarily the case, he will purposefully mess up or avoid from competing so as not to draw attention to himself.
Bullied as a child, and even now as a young adult, for his strange looks and his human mother, Eadon largely developed his introverted nature and sense of inferiority as a result of this. He doesn't let his talents or abilities be known, and refrains from using too many words in order to avoid being targeted more than he already is, and to avoid notice. When contrasted with the hot-headed, blunt and out-spoken personalities prevalent in other Inarta, his own mannerisms are something of an oddity and place him even further on the fringes of society. Grudgingly accepted, but hardly trusted or embraced and seen as more human and outsider than as Inarta and friend.
As a Dek, Eadon grew up almost entirely in the caves and has had little to no exposure to the world outside. As such, he has something of a fear of, strangely enough, heights and of the outside world and genuine outsiders. While those from outside of the caste system of Wind Reach both intrigue and fascinate him, his fear far outweighs his interest and he would sooner run or break down stuttering than try and actually talk to one. Heights make him feel giddy and are actually pretty terrifying for Eadon, which is a fear he will need to overcome especially if he is to bond with a Wind Eagle, the only conceivable way out of the Dek caste for him.
When actually given free time, rare as it is, Eadon enjoys carving as a past time, quite happily making elaborately carved figures of birds, and other animals out of rock and wood if given half a chance. Despite his obvious skill, no craftsman would ever take him on as an apprentice due to his mixed heritage, so he keeps his talents hidden as with most things about himself. He loves books, and magic, both of which are things he rarely gets the chance to see or read.
His dream is to become an Endal, though he knows for him it is likely little more than a pipedream. No eagle would ever want to bond with a funny looking runt like him, when it could have it's choice of strong and brave true Inarta to choose from. Though he is capable in the telepathy that enables communication with the giant beasts, he is an outsider and hardly worthy of their notice much less their respect.
Character History
Born as the only child of a human mother and an unknown Inarta father, Eadon was pretty much destined to be viewed as an oddity in his society. With most Inarta mothers bearing two or more children in a single birth, his being an only child was somewhat unnatural. When combined with his human heritage and his foreign looks, Eadon had enough difficulty avoiding being ostracised by his peers as a child, let alone actually making any friends. Children have always been cruel, but to him they were doubly so. Eadon was an easy target, and more an outsider growing up than an actual member of the Inarta society - destined for the Dek caste from birth.
Eadon's mother was originally from the great city of Syliras, but fell in love with a travelling Inarta Endal and the giant eagle that he rode. Their union was swift and unexpected, leaving her pregnant and he long gone on his mission away from Wind Reach. In her quest to find her lover, she left her home and travelled to the far away Mt. Skyinarta and the city of Wind Reach, where she gave birth to him. Eadon's father never returned to Wind Reach, though his mother stayed in the hope that he one day would. The Inarta allowed her to stay, and join the Dek caste out of respect for her relationship with the unknown Endal, a privilege for an outsider such as her.
For the first eight years of his life, Eadon was raised in virtual isolation with only his mother and make-believe friends to keep him company. He was fascinated by the stories of far away Syrilas and the legends and stories his mother passed on to him, as well as with books and the concept of magic. Though magic, other than the telepathy with the giant eagles, was fairly rare, Eadon had a natural curiosity and interest in it. Other children either avoided him, or called him names, so he quickly learnt how to stay away from them and to keep to his own devices. With his mother as a Dek, he got little in the way of food and was taught by his love-struck mother to treat the Inarta as superior, as they were in her mind. Eadon was not one to question her.
During Eadon's early years, his mother taught him both her own native Common tongue, as well as the Nari language spoken in Wind Reach. Few other people spoke the Common language, so Eadon learnt to love the secret language he seemed to share with his mother. When he was four, he was given his first bird - a tiny little blue wren, to call his own. Inferiority and his human ancestry aside, Eadon quickly learnt that he had inherited the Inarta love for all things that fly. The tiny thing followed ihm everywhere, eating out of his hand and driving his mother to near insanity, while also attracting whispers and dark looks from the rest of the community. As his mother worked nearly all the time, the little bird was his only real companion.
Like all Inarta children, at the age of eight Eadon was placed into the schooling system, where the teachers attempted to draw out any talents the young Yasi might possess and thus find a place for them in the caste system. Largely avoided and harrassed by the other children, Eadon did not perform well in any real areas of his studies, or at least not openly. As a result of his inferiority complex, he did not wish to try and put himself above the others, thus purposefully failed to achieve well in even the things he understood well. The teachers, seeing only a half-Inarta child who was as much of a social misfit as could exist, never noticed his lack of effort as anything other than a matter of course. They more or less expected him to do badly.
Even with all of his failings, a few areas of his studies Eadon did manage to excel and fall in love with. His favourite class was the carving classes, though he saved his actual carving pursuits for out of class time where the other students could not see the things he produced. While very talented, Eadon knew that to perform better than them, or even be taken on as an apprentice over the other children, would make him even more hated than he already was. Or at least, that was the only logical possibility in his mind.
His other love was the talon sword. While most Inarta were more interested in bows, Eadon was fascinated by the cold beauty of the elegant swords and spent countless hours practicing his techniques and working on his stances. This talent he was less concerned with hiding - with the amount of honour duels and the like that occured in Inarta society, being seen as a dangerous swordsman was a good way to discourage or protect himself from would be challengers. While he did not want to draw attention, Eadon was not stupid. It was better to do well and be hated in some select things, than to be dead. Though, he was made to wish otherwise on occasion. In fact, he was such a good swordsman that he was given his own talon sword by the tutor so that he could continue to practice outside of classes.
At thirteen years old, a full two years younger than the norm, Eadon was relegated to the Dek caste, as was expected. While it hurt to know that he could not earn a higher place in the caste system without a wind eagle bond, it was the harsh reality. Eadon was not truly Inarta, and thus had no place being above those who were. Put to work cleaning out hearths, and mucking out the roosts of the giant eagles, Eadon lead a simple but dirty life with work and little else to occupy him.
The next few years were hell. Most of the Wind Eagles hated him, he had little to no friends and was more or less considered to be a social leper in his own home, sleeping in out of the way corners where those who most enjoyed tormenting him for his differences had trouble finding him. Things were made especially hard when his mother passed away shortly after his sixteenth birthday, leaving him alone in the world but for a city that barely tolerated his existence.

Housing
Location: Wind Reach
House: Darniva Commonrooms: All Wind Reach housing is inside the Mt. Skyinarta Volcano in cave systems. Anyone living in Wind Reach lives in a cave. There are no cottages or buildings outside the volcano.
With the exception of drudges, who sleep wherever they finish working, the common housing of Wind Reach all reside within the Darniva Commonrooms. There is actually plenty of space for everyone since the rooms were created with the advent of Wind Reach and made numerous with the anticipation of a much larger city. Rooms can be rented or purchased by travelers or immigrants through the Valintar for any duration of stay at any size requirement. People do not have to stay in the rooms they rent, often renting a small space and opting to move into a far larger one. The Inarta themselves, other than the drudges who do not get their own rooms, are free to occupy whatever space they'd like. Visitors that occupy spaces other than the ones they have leased or purchase run the risk of getting run out the first time someone else rents or leases the space they are in. Individuals are responsible for keeping their own spaces clean, though there are a number of drudges assigned to the Darniva to keep them all clean as well.
