There have been rumors of people who grow tired of their work. Those who become bored and see the days dragging on before them. Ones who feel no satisfaction, but instead are stuck in routine and just go through the motions without actually feeling anything. While these rumors may be true for some people, they aren't for Lorelle. She is finally starting to feel comfortable and confident in what she is doing. It has taken her longer than it might for most people. It takes her awhile to get comfortable with something new, it always has. She doesn't enough change. Once her mother told her that when she was a child, her parents were taking out the old clothes that no longer fit her and replacing them with new clothes. Lorelle, being the child she was, freaked out. She threw a fit about everything being changed and gave her parents a headache apparently. She doesn't remember now, but she has been told it took her days to get over the change and finally accept it. She hasn't grown out of the habit. While she no longer throws a fit everytime something is changed, it still takes her quite a bit of time to get used to anything new. Well, most things.
This day of summer is a rather normal day at the library. There are things to organize, records to be written down and the gentle flow of people coming and going. While the small place is never exactly busy or full of people it is rarely empty. There is usually at least one person either looking for something on the shelves or sitting at one of the tables studying. At least, in what Lorelle has seen so far that seems to be the case. At this very moment there is about three people aside from Lorelle in the library. One is sitting in one of the worn chairs at the end of one of the aisles reading a book. Another is looking through the history section of the shelves and the last is sitting at one of the tables reading one of the rarer books that have to stay in the library at all times. Lorelle is sitting at her desk, looking up every once and awhile from where her eyes have been focused on the ledger. There is two books due today. One can still be renewed, but the other seems to be late quite a few days. Lorelle hopes it is brought back soon. She hates charging people finess. It wrong almost, this being a library and all, but she knows it must be done. Otherwise the person never learns and therefore thinks it is okay to just take as much time with the book they have taken out and that isn't far to everyone else who could be wanting to check out that book.
Lorelle sighs. Today could prove to be either a difficult day or a rather easy one. It really depends. Leaning back, Lorelle looks out at all the shelves. She should really see if there is anything productive for her to do instead of just sitting here waiting for someone to come to her. She looks over to the Vantha looking through the history books. She asked him if he wanted help earlier, after getting a rather abrupt and rude response she has decide to just leave him alone. That seems like the smart decision in the long run. Looking over to the other two that she can't really see from where she is, she just knows where they are from walking around and seeing them as she passed. She doesn't see the need to ask either of them if they want any help. They seem to know what they want to look at or study or whatever they are doing. As long as they aren't destroying anything, Lorelle is content to just let them be.
"Um excuse me, I need to renew a book," The voice of a woman brings Lorelle's focus back to right in front in her. She looks at an older Vantha woman with green streaks in her hair. It takes a tick for Lorelle to nod her head and focus on what she is suppose to do. Her mind seems to be distracted today. "Alright, what's the book?" Lorelle asks, flipping open the ledger. The woman tells her the name. Lorelle doesn't catch it all, but it sounds like something about recipes and snow so it is enough that Lorelle is able to find it. It is the book she observed earlier that is due today but can still be renewed. "Alright, sign here and I need the book so I can mark it," Lorelle instructs, trying to keep her voice pleasant and present as her mind seems to want to wander. Maybe she is starting to fall into the routine of this job. No, she is just tired. At least, that is what she is telling herself.
The woman nods and takes the quill Lorelle has held towards her and looks down at the ledger. She signs her name once more for the book before pulling the book out and handing it to Lorelle. Lorelle takes the book and flips to the back cover. She pulls out the small card that is in the back to record the times the book has been loaned. Lorelle marks the card before putting it back in the book and closing it. She takes the book in her hand and holds it towards the woman in front of her. "Alright, here you go. Good for another twenty days," She tells the woman, giving her a soft smile as she continues to try to be pleasant and friendly. The woman takes the book and nods. "Thank you," she says before turning and leaving the library. Lorelle sighs for the second time in the past bell and turns the ledger back so it is facing her. One due book down, one to go. Lorelle hopes that one either gets here today or when she is not working. She doesn't want to be the one to tell someone they have some huge fine to pay for a book. She just doesn't want to do it, but she will if she has to. It is her job and she will do it if that is how it turns out.
