There have been rumors of people who grow tired of their work. Those who become bored and see the days dragging on before them. Ones who feel no satisfaction, but instead are stuck in routine and just go through the motions without actually feeling anything. While these rumors may be true for some people, they aren't for Lorelle. She is finally starting to feel comfortable and confident in what she is doing. It has taken her longer than it might for most people. It takes her awhile to get comfortable with something new, it always has. She doesn't enough change. Once her mother told her that when she was a child, her parents were taking out the old clothes that no longer fit her and replacing them with new clothes. Lorelle, being the child she was, freaked out. She threw a fit about everything being changed and gave her parents a headache apparently. She doesn't remember now, but she has been told it took her days to get over the change and finally accept it. She hasn't grown out of the habit. While she no longer throws a fit everytime something is changed, it still takes her quite a bit of time to get used to anything new. Well, most things.

This day of summer is a rather normal day at the library. There are things to organize, records to be written down and the gentle flow of people coming and going. While the small place is never exactly busy or full of people it is rarely empty. There is usually at least one person either looking for something on the shelves or sitting at one of the tables studying. At least, in what Lorelle has seen so far that seems to be the case. At this very moment there is about three people aside from Lorelle in the library. One is sitting in one of the worn chairs at the end of one of the aisles reading a book. Another is looking through the history section of the shelves and the last is sitting at one of the tables reading one of the rarer books that have to stay in the library at all times. Lorelle is sitting at her desk, looking up every once and awhile from where her eyes have been focused on the ledger. There is two books due today. One can still be renewed, but the other seems to be late quite a few days. Lorelle hopes it is brought back soon. She hates charging people finess. It wrong almost, this being a library and all, but she knows it must be done. Otherwise the person never learns and therefore thinks it is okay to just take as much time with the book they have taken out and that isn't far to everyone else who could be wanting to check out that book.

Lorelle sighs. Today could prove to be either a difficult day or a rather easy one. It really depends. Leaning back, Lorelle looks out at all the shelves. She should really see if there is anything productive for her to do instead of just sitting here waiting for someone to come to her. She looks over to the Vantha looking through the history books. She asked him if he wanted help earlier, after getting a rather abrupt and rude response she has decide to just leave him alone. That seems like the smart decision in the long run. Looking over to the other two that she can't really see from where she is, she just knows where they are from walking around and seeing them as she passed. She doesn't see the need to ask either of them if they want any help. They seem to know what they want to look at or study or whatever they are doing. As long as they aren't destroying anything, Lorelle is content to just let them be.

"Um excuse me, I need to renew a book," The voice of a woman brings Lorelle's focus back to right in front in her. She looks at an older Vantha woman with green streaks in her hair. It takes a tick for Lorelle to nod her head and focus on what she is suppose to do. Her mind seems to be distracted today. "Alright, what's the book?" Lorelle asks, flipping open the ledger. The woman tells her the name. Lorelle doesn't catch it all, but it sounds like something about recipes and snow so it is enough that Lorelle is able to find it. It is the book she observed earlier that is due today but can still be renewed. "Alright, sign here and I need the book so I can mark it," Lorelle instructs, trying to keep her voice pleasant and present as her mind seems to want to wander. Maybe she is starting to fall into the routine of this job. No, she is just tired. At least, that is what she is telling herself.

The woman nods and takes the quill Lorelle has held towards her and looks down at the ledger. She signs her name once more for the book before pulling the book out and handing it to Lorelle. Lorelle takes the book and flips to the back cover. She pulls out the small card that is in the back to record the times the book has been loaned. Lorelle marks the card before putting it back in the book and closing it. She takes the book in her hand and holds it towards the woman in front of her.
"Alright, here you go. Good for another twenty days," She tells the woman, giving her a soft smile as she continues to try to be pleasant and friendly. The woman takes the book and nods. "Thank you," she says before turning and leaving the library. Lorelle sighs for the second time in the past bell and turns the ledger back so it is facing her. One due book down, one to go. Lorelle hopes that one either gets here today or when she is not working. She doesn't want to be the one to tell someone they have some huge fine to pay for a book. She just doesn't want to do it, but she will if she has to. It is her job and she will do it if that is how it turns out.

Sometimes Emotions and Actions Must be Separated

Bells pass and nothing really changes. Well, that is not entirely true. The people in the room, aside from Lorelle, has changed throughout the bells. The numbers went from three, to two, to one, back up to three and then slowly down to none. Lorelle is alone in the library at the moment, aside from whoever is in the other two rooms of the small building, if anyone. Currently, Lorelle is finding busying her mind a hard task. There is no one to look at, no books currently needing to be put away and the ledger is up to date. This is the quietist the female Vantha has ever seen it and really, she finds it annoying and somewhat boring like this. She never thought she could be bored with silence as it is something she enjoys. It is one of the reasons she chose the library as her place of employment. Well, not really, but it could have been as it is true. She does enjoy the silence and peacefulness of the small building. In fact, she enjoys her job quite a bit and she tries to do it as well as she knows how. Just at the moment, she is feeling the weight of being unable to occupy her mind with the mixture of being tired.

Sighing, Lorelle wonders when she gets to go home. It can't be long now. Right? She isn't sure. She lets out a groan before standing up. There has to be something productive for her to do while no one else is here. Maybe there is a book not in the right place, or the shelves need straightening. She isn't sure what there is to do, but she is almost positive there is something aside from waiting for something to happen. So, the search to do something begins. She wants to be productive and active doing her job so she doesn't want to just grab a book and begin reading, no matter how much she may want to so she can just busy her mind. So instead she looks at the shelves, pushing in the books so they are as even as they will get and finding little mistakes like two books not being in the right order alphabetically or something small. She goes on like this, acting like a perfectionist till she hears the front door open. Her heart skips a beat when she hears footsteps on the ground. She doesn't want to know who it is, not wanting it to be the man with a fine.

While tempted to just stay where she is and hide among the books, she knows that is not doing what she is suppose to so she moves out and walks to her desk. She is slow, seeing a man standing there with a book under his arm in front of the desk waiting for whoever is working. Of course he had to come when Lorelle is the one working. She sighs mentally before sliding into her seat. She looks up at him, thinking he must be the one with the fine unless it is someone just turning in a book early. That is possible, right? She isn't sure.
"Um Hello, how can I help you?" she asks, trying to keep her voice from sounding pinched or nervous and just normal. A very hard thing to accomplish with the current of thoughts that is running through her head right now.

"Yes, I found this book in my home today and figured I should return it," He says, putting the book down on the table. Lorelle nods, looking at the book. She recognizes the title. It is a book on fishing and yes, it is the book with a fine on it. Lorelle finds her heart fluttering in her chest, not wanting to deal with this. "I see," she says, biting her lip. She just stares at the book, feeling small. What would her mother say at this moment? Normally thinking such a thing wouldn't bring her comfort, but at the moment it seems as though it is something she needs. Her mother, being the straightforward woman that she is, would tell her to snap out of it and just do her job. Not exactly something helpful to think of. What about her father? Lorelle knows she would listen to him more anyway. He is gentle, but firm when he wants. He would probably tell her with a firm but calming tone to just calm down and rid herself of her nerves. She would in turn ask how and he would probably tell her to separate herself from the task and just do what she is suppose to.

Deciding to do what she thinks would be her father's advice, Lorelle clears her throat and nods her head.
"Yes, well let's look this up shall we?" she says, trying not to think about what she has to do and just focus on getting the task over with. She takes the ledger and flips it open. She finds the page with the man's name and the book title in the same row and she sees the exactly number of days the book is late. Fourteen days. She takes a deep breath threw her nose, trying not to make it to obvious. She looks up at the man, not focusing on his face as she gives him a small smile. "It is fourteen days late so it will have a fine of ..." She stops as she mentally counts up how many mizas the fine will be. It is two copper mizas per day and it has been fourteen days so that is fourteen multiplied by two. With her slow math abilities, it takes Lorelle a chime to do the problem. "Twenty eight copper mizas. Sorry, that took me a chime, I am not very good at the whole mathematics thing."

The man just nods before pulling out his pouch. He removes before giving the mizas to Lorelle. Lorelle puts out her hand and let's him drop the mizas in her hand. He gives her a smile. "It's fine. Just work on those mathematics skills for the future, they could be useful. You have a good day now," he tells her before turning and leaving. Lorelle sits there, a little stunned. "Uh yeah, I'll be sure to do that," she tells herself, a little shocked. After sitting there for a bit she snaps out of it and realizes that that really wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. Sighing and smiling to herself, she gets up and moves to the office of the library. She puts the mizas in there place before recording them in the correct place. She then goes back out to the desk in the main library and marks the book as returned in the ledger and then takes the book and looks for its place.

Lorelle continues to have a small smile to her face. She is quite proud of herself. She got through that with a lot less trouble than she thought she would. She feels as though she can do all the aspects of her job now. That she doesn't need to be worried about anything. Course she will probably find something else to be afraid or nervous about because that is just how she is, but for now she is proud and fearless. At least, with her work she is. Everything else, well that is a different story for a different day.

Notes
Though Lorelle was bored in a library, you still managed to capture me in your writing. With her constant stream of thoughts, and the childish jitters Lorelle had to prevent her from sitting in one place too long were amusing to read, and made what could have been a very drab thread, to a pleasant one. Good work, and I look forward to more of your threads in the future!
