Early evening
Early evening
Jervis walked among the stalls searching for one with a decent selection of travel supplies. He needed to get what he needed and get on the road quickly if he was going to find Kaie though chances where already slim.
Still if he went unprepared he'd be killing himself and just burdening Kaie which would only enrage the fierce woman he knew. So he continued his search diligently with his few purchases for far in his hand. Traveller's stock made for easy cooking so he'd picked some up combining it with some meat and dried vegatables he could make a workable stew the basis of his travel rations. It'd been a fair price for three gold miza's. He'd also found a preserving kit for five gold miza's so he'd grabbed that as well.
Finally he found a stand with a selection of dried foods and grains through he was just starting to pack up for the evening. Maybe they could help each other out, he thought as he approached.
"I'm just packing up for the night young man, is there anything I can help you with?" The merchant greeted cheerily.
"Actually kind sir your stall seems well suited to my current needs, I find myself in need of food that keeps well for travel." Jervis said as his eyes roamed the stall, things he had a lot of he would try to drive the price he knew from experience so he started there.
The merchant had lots of oatmeal and walnuts it appeared from the large open sacks that sat leaning against others presumably with more of the same inside. He also appeared to a variety of dried vegetables and fruits. These items would be good choices for stews and soups the only thing he knew how to make. The oatmeal would make a simple breakfast.
"I think I'd like ten pounds of the oatmeal and walnuts, five pounds of the dried peas, Three pounds of the dried apples and these dried mushrooms you have here, I don't recognize them, are the edible? if they are I'll take three pounds of those as well." Jervis said to the merchant pointing towards the mushrooms he meant.
"Oh and if you have some grain that would make good horse feed I'll take thirty pounds of that at well." Jervis added remembering that he'd have to feed marble and thinking the bringing some extra along might help Kaie make better time on her journey and increase his odds of letting him come along.
"Indeed they are edible, Going on a trip young man?" The merchant queried casually as he gather Jervis' request setting it at the front of the stall in burlap sacks and cheap linen bags after weighing it out on a scale.
"Yes, I'm heading to meet a friend in Ravok. You wouldn't know how to get there would you?" Jervis said absently as he set two gold miza on the table as an intent to pay before starting to gather the things into his cart. He didn't want to make any mistakes at this point and get thrown in jail foiling his plan. Still he couldn't get Kaie out of his head though it had been three days now. She was the definition of what he had been seeking in many ways and he was still berating himself for not running after her right then.
"Ravok it's north but are ya a fool boy. If you get killed up that way you'd be lucky, more likely they will enslave you. No it'd be best if you stayed away from there no matter who your friend is." The merchant said seriously a little stunned at the isur's foolishness, did he not know anything. He placed the last of the order on the counter and gathering the two coins set there.
"Really, I didn't know still it's where I have to go. I thank you for the warning friend, I'm sure it'd be sound advice many would heed but I have to go and try at least." Jervis said his voice determined betraying that his mind hadn't been changed by the warning.
"Bah, yer a fool boy. That'll be 16 more gold for the lot of it." The merchant said waiting for the rest of his payment.
"A fair price indeed." Jervis said counting off the remaining coins to the the merchant.
"Since I'm your last customer I'll give you hand if you'd like, perhaps a small discount of whatever you deem appropriate for my work if you think that'd be fair." Jervis added his inner merchant emerging and searching for a cheaper price.
"Alright, I'll accept those terms. I'll give ya some money back when your done loading my cart up." The merchant said extending his hand to shake. The boy was a reckless determined fool but whatever drove him shone through with an inner glow, plus he had nothing to lose having this boy pack his things, he could pay whatever he wanted the boy had said that.
Jervis set to work quickly but carefully, packing the things into the man's cart in an organized manner that came naturally from his time working with the old lady. He placed heavier items to the outside to help with traction, placing similar items together. Lighter items he placed in the center to protect from any large bumps that may be encountered. Everything being packed he covered the cart with a tarp he'd found and tied it down securely to protect the merchants goods in case there was a sudden change in the weather. He worked diligently, Trying his hardest even though this wasn't his chosen profession. Strength was always giving your best effort in all thing and he wanted Izurdin to be proud of him for his strength and skill. His work was done quickly and returned to the merchant to what kind of discount he had earned.
