Location The Kenash Auction Hall

This is Kenash's main venue for buying and selling slaves.

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

On the west bank of the Kenash River facing north lies a large low slung building made of brick and stone. White columns grace the building leaving its entire roof as a sort of open aired stadium that easily can accommodate hundreds of onlookers. The building has an earthen berm, well landscaped, up the east side that has steps carved out of it which leads to the roof. Once there rows and rows of benches elegantly carved of the same marble as the stone columns rest providing seating for the masses. Overlooking the seated rows of marble benches is a raised dais with space for about ten slaves to stand upon and be displayed. Off to one side is a separate podium that houses the auctioneer.

Beneath the expansive white marble roof lies the confines of the Auction Hall. Utilized only in bad weather, the rooms within the hall can be also used as auction faciliiy in the winter if necessary. Though most of the year they are divided into separate facilities, meeting rooms is the polite term, where potential buyers can meet prospective slaves and examine them. Far beneath that, in the confines of a very damp basement, lies row after row of wooden stalls designed to house slaves. The stalls have a single ring in the wall that normally has a length of chain running from it that will attach to an anklet. These anklets tether the slaves comfortably so they can move around. The basement also contains sturdy metal cages to house more unruly slaves and those that may pose a hazard to themselves, each other, or their handlers.

The Auction Hall is open around the clock for pick up and delivery. Slaves can be examined and purchased during daylight hours whenever Marshal can be found to show off his current wares.

Name: Marshal Sitai
Race: Human
DoB: 482 AV (31 Yo)
PoB: Kenash
Title: Auctioneer
Skills: Leadership 75, Negotiation 65, Persuasion 61, Psychology 55, Rhetoric 35
Gnosis: Yshul 2
Additional Info: Marshal Sital is one of Dervain Sitai's half siblings. Raised virtually side by side with Dervain, Marshal has taken on one aspect of the family business and turned a hearty profit by doing so. Not only does he run most of the slave auctions in the city, but he also makes a pretty penny evaluating slaves and pricing them for potential sellers as well as matching them up with potential buyers. Oddly enough, Marshal does not own any slaves outside of his family estate and takes care of all his personal business himself. When pressed, he'll simply say that he's seen enough flesh for a lifetime and trusts no one with his own care but himself.

Marshal has a voice of an God and some say that's why hes such a good auctioneer. He could charm the last copper miza off a begger and the last drop of milk from a dried out cow that hasn't seen a calf in months. But the truth is Marshal has made a study of people and of course that in turn has made it his business as to what those people want.

Dates and Bells of Operation
ImageThe Auction Hall is open every ten days, starting on the first of the season and running again on the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, and 90th days of the Season.

Auctions start just after afternoon tea in Kenash and can run late into the evenings depending upon how many slaves are ran through the blocks.

Slaves can be purchased outside of Auctions for 25% higher costs plus a surcharge of care days between auctions. Care days cost 5 gm per day and are calculated on the drop off day through the day of the auction. So if the slave was delivered to the Auction Hall on the 3rd, his or her cost would be 4 care days or 20 GM higher if he or she were purchased outside of an auction on the 7th day of the season.

Freeborns can purchase slaves.

Moderator Note: This location can be self moderated for purchases or sales so long as the actual transaction is ran by a storyteller first.

Moderator Notes: A tip for how to self-moderate an auction thread.

Start the bid out at approximately 50 GM less than the bid, (so for an unskilled human male it'd be 250GM) and work your way up. Anything more than 10 GM less than the suggested bid will result in either an intervention in the thread or consequences enacted upon the slave, which can include lessened skills, or in a severe discounting of price, more serious consequences such as pre-destined death with no refund given. These consequences are dependent on the Storyteller's judgement.

Moderator Note 2: The minimum bid for a house slave will be the price listed for for the Skilled Human/Humanoid variety, with again, the skill set shifted accordingly. A personal slave will be more expensive and will be held with, at the minimum, the cost of a Skilled Human/Humanoid. Once at the rung of personal slave, you will be given much more freedom regarding your slave's skill set, seeing as this slave is geared to precisely what you want out of them and how they will be implemented. Keep in mind, though, that there can only be ONE level 2 skill at this price range.

As you invest more, your slave will be much better suited to exactly what you want out of them. Keep in mind that Kenash is a city where wealth is relatively commonplace and expenses will be paid in the manner befitting this situation.

Moderator Note 3: PC slaves will be valued higher than normal slaves, seeing as they have the potential to gain skills and lores that make them far more useful. I won't go into detail about pricing because this is conditional, but if you wish to buy a PC slave, a moderated auction thread will take place with the slave in question.

Moderator Note 4: It is possible to acquire a slave in the city by oneself and then subsequently have it legitimized. Moderators in Kenash will understand that in play, sometimes acquiring a slave without going through the proper channels to do so is a byproduct of a thread. In this case, when it is discovered (and it will be; this is Kensh, we have ears everywhere) the owner/master will be prompted to visit the Auction Hall and have the slave inspected. The fee to do so is a flat rate of 100GM and will include the branding process (for Freeborn) as well as legitimize any of the owner/master's claims on slavery. To take this option, please consult your local Storyteller. This will only be accepted for PC slaves in the city. NPC's must be acquired through the normal channels.
