Appearance
Race: Akvatari Gender: Female Age: 17 (acts and even looks younger) Birthday: 33, Spring, 496 Birthplace: Abura
When Vernadel was born, her parents named her an anagram of lavender because of her light purple luminescent wings with navy blue veins, and the lavender highlights in her bluish-black hair and fur tail. Her skin is naturally a pearlescent hue, but is currently tinged with gold from being outdoors in the sun so much of her life. The hair on her head is an unruly mop of curls, intertwined with sea stones, sea glass, shells, small bones, feathers, and pearls. It is all different lengths as she regularly cuts small pieces of her hair to make paintbrushes with which to paint. Vernadel wears a single piece of turquoise cloth around her breasts, carries a tortoiseshell sack with a sling, and sports tons of bracelets, rings, hair jewelry, etc. that she made herself.
She is small and slender and has a little more growing to go, being only an adolescent and not yet going through puberty. Vern is just barely 5 feet long and weighs about 60 pounds (she has hollow Akvatari bones). Her eyes are large and shiny, like orbs of black ink, and she has an upturned nose and thick lips.
Character Concept
Like all Akvatari, Vernadel is very creative and a deep thinker. She is inspired by everything she sees and experiences. A painter, a poet, jewelry maker, and a flutist, Vern seeks to beautify the world one creation at a time. She is still quite young, though, and her work is not flawless in any area.
Personality: Raised a single child by her scholarly mother, Vernadel is quite educated in fine arts, music, and creative writing. She has never before left Abura until now, though, so she is not so learned about the rest of the world. Her senses are overwhelmed by what she sees and encounters every day and while her knowledge rapidly increases, her mood darkens just as quickly. She becomes more lonesome and melancholy the more time she spends away from her home, but she still continues to write, paint, and play her flute, as well as collect all manner of oddities with which to make jewelry.
An imaginative girl, Vern's mind often wanders and so, she sometimes has difficulty focusing. She is friendly, but does not have the most advanced social skills, because of her background. However, she is way too trusting since she has rarely encountered danger.
Ethics: Since the Akvatari are generally peaceful, Vernadel is quite shocked by any violence. She does not understand strict laws, racism, or the need to hurt others for any reason. Her sense of morality is thrown upside down as she encounters the strange ways outside of Abura and she is not really sure what she should believe.
Likes: Music of any kind, most art, legends and stories, and any type of natural or made bauble or charm for her jewelry-making obsession. Vern writes ballads and epic poems, but she generally enjoys hearing any type of poetry recited. She also loves to fly and to swim, of course.
Dislikes: Vernadel gets embarrassed when others stare at her because she is different. She also hates being forced to move across land, because she feels awkward. Since she is young and doesn’t understand danger, she is pretty fearless, but she quickly learns that there is much to be afraid of, especially fire. |
