Full Name: Inari Valenia Lorak Race: Human, Vantha/Mixed Gender: Female Age: 22 Height and weight: 5'8", 130lbs Birthday: 22, Winter, 590 AV Birthplace: Kenash
Inari is rather serious looking for being so young and generally disinterested in furthering her Dynasty's power and wealth. She is also tall for her kind, but keeps herself dressed simply and devoid of heavy makeup or frivolous accessories during the day.
Her soft curls are cropped short (to be more easily tucked beneath her nightly disguise), and are dark enough to appear black indoors. Because of her constant running to and fro between home, the shop, and less savory parts of the city, she is slender and agile, thought not necessarily skinny or athletic. Her hands are a bit rough, since she prefers being able to feel the wood when she works with it, and her arms are well toned from her craft. She may not seem particularly strong, but don't be fooled; she can throw a mean punch if she needs to. Her worst traits are her rather chubby feet, which tend to prevent her from wearing high heeled shoes. This is not too troubling, however, since she prefers not to be any taller than she already is.
Inari, unlike her relatives, does not possess any dramatic beauty, but her Vantha heritage has passed unto her the characteristic shifting eyes and aurora-touched hair--however subtle they might be--as well as an olive complexion. Inari is neither homely nor drop dead gorgeous, simply pleasing to the eyes. When she stands before an audience, however, and begins breathing life into yet another fantastic tale woven from bits and pieces of her selective education, her face glows as if lit from within, and something about her transforms from ordinary to extraordinary.
Character Concept
Inari has always been kind of...odd. While the rest of her family fights tooth and nail to keep their hold on their power and wealth, driving their ambitions ever higher and higher, the young Lorak instead prefers to lose herself in just about anything the others might consider useless. Being no where near a position of inheritance or significant responsibility, she relishes her freedom and spends as much time as possible pursuing things she finds worthwhile--reading stories of fantastical lands, carving fictional animals with human faces, re-enacting a famous legend of her ancient, fading heritage...
By no means, however, is Inari idle, nor is she a glassy-eyed daydreamer. On the contrary, she has inherited every bit of her bloodline's industrious nature, only she shares none of their top most priorities. She often works with single-minded fury when she feels inspired, and can spend an entire sleepless night slaving away over some project. The others blessedly seem to leave her to her own devices, as nothing more than a perfunctory image of respectable compliance is expected of her.
Neither is she a hermit nor lacking in social grace, as one would assume. Inari is a magnet of charm within her own circle of peers, but since she is generally disinterested in the money mongering society she must live with, she may come off as aloof or uninteresting. Catch her with a subject of whimsy, however, and you will not only find a fiery spirit thirsting for adventure, but also a steadfast friend who would toss her own life before her loyalty. On the flip side, catch her rare but potent anger, and you may very well find the nearest wood carving flying for your head.
There is a reason, however, for the loose application of the word "general" when paired with political interest. This is because, while Inari may not place much importance on getting richer, only more debt free, she is actually deeply invested in the relations between the Dynasties. In fact, her business often depends on such knowledge, as her midnight meetings not only serve as a place of artistic exchange, but also a chance for members of all Dynasties (and sometimes classes as well) to interact together. It is as close to subversion or revolution as she ever gets in terms of politics, but it is also an endeavor she finds greatly rewarding. During these secret nights, some relations make themselves more apparent, while others even mend or change between individuals. All in all, it is an intriguing facet of society, one that Inari strives to better understand so that, perhaps, Kenash can grow more as a city of culture and arts, and less as one of betrayal and subterfuge.
Character History
Ever since she was a child, Inari worshiped her grandfather. After being orphaned at an early age, Inari came under the guidance of Lorana Lorak's youngest uncle. He, like her, was much too far down the line of inheritance and held little to no chance at some grand position of wealth or leadership. In his spare time, which he had much of during his later years, he spent hours upon hours teaching Inari all that brought him amusement and joy. Through their rich and unrestricted sessions together, the young girl learned to place her happiness in life first, and everything else second. The other members of her family mostly ignored her, which she resented bitterly at first, but came to identify as a blessing in disguise, once her grandfather was no longer around to dote on her.
For the most part, Inari does as she pleases, so long as she stays out of people's way and causes no trouble. She knows a little of medicine, due to the Lorak family's famous legacy of doctors, but sees no use in becoming a master herself when the city is as abundant with medicinal experts as it is.
In truth, her passions arose from more than just the mentorship of her grandfather. Inari is also deeply obsessed her Vantha heritage, which the others in her family seldom talk or think about. Once, long ago, she had visited the magnificent city of Avanthal and found her breath utterly taken away at the pure white snow, the endlessly fascinating Skyglow Hold, and of course, the goddess Morwen herself. Since that visit, she has dug up every artifact, book, and legend she could of Vantha culture, and vows one day to return and learn of her heritage properly. For now, however, she must content herself with her shop and late night antics, slowly paying off the family debt before true freedom can be finally within her grasp.

Heirloom: A rather plain but elegant, ivory carving knife that Inari keeps with her at all times. It was her grandfather's and left to her in his will. The rest of the family was rather baffled at such a mundane gift, but Inari was thrilled; she knew it was his most treasured possession and values it more than anything else she owns.
Housing
Location: Kenash, Whitesnake Plantation
Inari, like most of the Dynasty members, lives within her family property on Whitesnake land. Though the main holdings are expensively tasteful, Inari prefers a more practical space for herself. The rest of her family members take rooms high up on the top most floors, considering it a privilege and show of power, but the young Lorak chooses to reside in one of the lower floors, closer to the servants' quarters. This is because she is often coming and going, bringing supplies in and taking finished works out. It would be an exhausting endeavor if she lived any higher, and the room is spacious enough for her incredible collection of...well, everything.
Her room consists of very basic, good quality furnishings, including a fireplace, two armchairs (one for her and one for Pina), a shelf or two of books, a soft bed, an armoire, and a desk. Most of the empty space is filled with various chests and boxes, which store all of the nick knacks she hoards for inspiration or whimsy.
Business
Name:The Velvet Ear Function: Store, Workshop, and Art Space Location: Oath Island Description: During the day, Inari or Pina mans the shop, which consists of a mixture of the Lorak's personal carvings and various other items of artistic value and interest. A space near the back is designated for any who are interested in learning the art of carving under the eccentric but rewarding tutelage of Inari herself, providing both a learning and working space for students.
Once every fortnight, however, the back of the shop is transformed. The chairs are arranged in a half circle, subtly fragrant candles are lit, and the fireplace is set merrily ablaze. This is where Inari's true passion shines, as well as that of many others. It is a holy space of sorts for lovers of spoken art, be it poetry or storytelling or even acting. Here is where many of the young Lorak's peers and friends join to share their secret passions, for although it is considered fashionable and cultured to be skilled in the arts and entertainment, it is not quite accepted as a sole pursuit in life, particularly for the most elite of Kenashern society.
As always, there is a quirky secret to Inari's seemingly humble endeavors. Each fortnight at midnight, when the gathering for this coveted session of performance and artistic exchange occurs, Inari becomes someone else. She dons a wig of snow white, as a remembrance of her Northern heritage, and applies a light amount of makeup to transform her otherwise low-key appearance. As silly as it may seem, it gives her a sense of freedom she seldom possesses, and an excuse to forget her aristocratic tethers. Sometimes, she even sneaks into the less wealthy parts of the city, spinning tales and selling small carvings to those less fortunate but equally, if not more, interested. It's not terribly effective in terms of disguise, but those who know her also adore her openly, and keep her secret locked safe and sound behind their admiration and respect.
Born as a slave to the Lorak Dynasty, Pina was practically mute when she first became Inari's personal servant. She was rescued by her future master from a horrible situation and now idolizes Inari as if she were the moon and stars themselves. Under the fond and uninhibited care of her mistress, Pina has defied the odds of slavehood and is growing to become a bright young lady. She covets her master's tastes as the finest one could possibly possess and follows eagerly in the young Lorak's footsteps. She has even taken to Inari's rather whimsical and strange interests and dons a sheep costume to match her mistress's white-haired disguise. Together, they host their midnight performances, as well as embark on the occasional adventure in the less wealthy parts of town.
Lorana is Inari's mighty and fiercesome aunt, as well as the head of their entire Dynasty. Being only one of her many siblings, half-siblings, and countless other relatives, Inari lacks an intimate relationship with this powerful figure. However, she does admire her aunt greatly, albeit from a distance, and strives to do well in all her endeavors as a result. Lorana is definitely a role model of sorts, though Inari intentionally overlooks some of her more monetary ambitions.
Verena is, technically speaking, Inari's aunt, though she is younger by three years. The two are practically strangers to each other, despite living under the same roof, though Inari certainly knows a little of the prodigious doctor purely through reputation. She finds Verena rather aloof, like most do, but does not fault her for it. In fact, she feels she might understand a little of the younger Lorak's dedication to her work, as it provides a kind of special freedom only professional businesses can provide.
Fiora is the closest friend and confidant Inari has. She is sweet, strong, and caring, as well as unexpectedly wonderful at dancing and making merry--when she isn't overshadowed by her husband Bice, that is. Inari loves her dearly, as well as her children, who are the best remedy to Pina's insecurities. Little Thia is especially fond of the slave and the two get along splendidly, as do their elders. Inari trusts Fiora with her life, as well as her deepest secrets. She hopes more than anything that the Benshira finds true happiness and peace someday, away from the brutish forces of her Radacke husband.
Inari considers no friend more fascinating to her than Nala. Everything about the Dhani, from her serpentine sway to her deadly strength, stirs one's curiosity and imagination. Most intriguing of all, however, is how Nala is still irrevocably, irrefutably a lady at heart, despite her towering stature and ability to transform into a giant, man-slaying snake. Though Nala is a bit harsher on slaves than she is used to, Inari still finds the Rajor genuine, honorable, and in possession of a sense of humor, which the Lorak believes are all indispensable assets of a good person.
Eyasia comes across to Inari as bold and unconventional in appearance, but surprisingly humble and girlish underneath her red lipstick and exotic heritage. She is a new addition to the Lorak family, which makes her a bit of an outsider but also endlessly fascinating to her niece, who hungers to know more of the outside world.
When asked of their relationship, Inari usually describes Rowan as a childhood pain in the ass. Rumors used to spread when they were younger, but eventually lost their fuel as Rowan went on galavanting through the city with multitudes of various women. For the most part, they leave each other be; they annoy one other enough as it is, each with one or two hidden reasons of their own for keeping their distance. Every now and then, though, they will team up--usually with fellow miscreant Jack Draer--and engage in all kinds of shenanigans. They work well together, when they aren't focused on their grudges.
Wild, outrageous, and full of good cheer, Adair is just the kind of colorful addition Inari seeks to include in her circle of peers, especially on the nights of her unconventional performances. Ever since he first walked into her shop and invited both her and Fi to his funeral, the Lorak knew mere political tensions would not keep their paths from crossing again and again. The fact that he actually attended a midnight show dressed in a gown and high heeled shoes forever earns the Askara a place of honor and mirth in Inari's memories. May the mischief never end!
Sypha is everything Inari values in a partner in crime: competent, observant, and personally motivated. She sympathizes greatly with his tireless mission to find the whereabouts of his Eypharian mother; if there were anyway to do the same for her own parents, she would be just as furiously determined. As a mercenary, Sypha is as familiar and reliable to Inari as a well-worn path or favorite carving knife. She finds herself seeking his services more and more, realizing how invaluable his skills have become. As a friend, however, he is still fairly mysterious and hard to read, which the Lorak hopes she can remedy one day when the threat of the Rujaro and the antics of a certain Morealis are less harrowing.
