A place for me to keep straight Shai's stuff...
Past lives
Jefrek - (revealed in Once Upon a Time There Was You) Pre-Valterrian, Jefrek was one of the wizards specialized in brokerage. They were known as Witnesses. They acted as go-betweens, negotiators, brokers of magical lore. A wizard could approach them with a problem, and they would know who might be able to solve it, and what might be required in return. They weren't overly powerful in their own right, but they were well-versed in many theories, so they would not be scammed. They abstained from personal magic altogether, so there would be no doubt as to their sanity. They protected their reputations fiercely, and were considered utterly reliable and trustworthy. Commonly marked by Yahal or Tyveth, they'd even sacrifice their own voices to reassure their clients they would not be divulging their secrets. And so, Witness Jefrek maintained an impressive network of acquaintance.
Also, according to the Outling Lukas, Jefrek was Areesa Tallshade's "soulmate" and that "He also broke neutrality for Areesa..." Zulrav told Areesa, upon revealing her plans to atone for her sins "... You two must embark in this together - then I shall consider backing you in the centuries to come. Her misery will be your own, Jefrek son of Jafuil. You will be separated countless times and painfully so, but in the end you will always find each other again."
Abashai has supposedly lived many lives since he was Jefrek, each with Nya and each in pursuit of the artifacts that Areesa Tallshade had created.
Ardrem - (revealed by Dira in What Secrets Does the Keep Keep?) Incarnation prior to Abashai who was Nya's lover in her previous life as Lugzia Averes. Ardrem was also a priest of Dira, committed to slaying those who were 'overdue'. They had continued to pursue Tallshade's artifacts. After Lugzia became pregnant with their child, Ardrem saw that she was 'overdue' for her death. Just as Abashai was obedient to Yahal when commanded to stab the pregnant Nya, Ardrem was obedient to his goddess Dira, and killed Lugzia and their unborn child, but then turned the blade on himself.
