Orion sat in silence as she contemplated his words. He was doing the same, after all. He didn't know if he meant a petching word he'd said, but it wasn't as though he didn't know how to pretend like he knew what he was talking about. He'd done it for years. His heart was uncertain, but he had a pledge to keep. He'd made it, and any good knight would need to stay true to his word. She would trust him on this, maybe. He would trust her on this, maybe. Cautious and foolhardy to the end.
"Says who?" He regarded her with a challenging tone in his voice. "Can't imagine they'd fire a pregnant woman if she's worth her weight in mizas. Nah, I imagine it's the idea of keeping your mind on something else, hmm? But what's it to me?" He paused, unsure of where he was going. She was tired, just as he, and he could see this going downhill fast if he wasn't careful. "Nevermind, Hadyn. What more is there to say?"
She offered him another chance to touch her belly, to feel their child once more. She was a peculiar woman. He was sure she still didn't really know what they were doing, that she didn't know what she really wanted from him. Perhaps they would figure it out over time. Or perhaps not.
"I'm spent. It's been a long day." He didn't acknowledge her offer. A sickening chill ran through his spine, the thought of remaining there much longer a bit too much. It had been some time since such an intense situation had gone without a meltdown of some sort for him, even if a divinely sent pain had been the only thing standing in the way of it happening. If he could hold onto this growth or the illusion thereof, maybe he could pull himself together and actually make this happen. "Don't want to upset you or the child anymore than I have. I've an early day tomorrow, so..I'll see you around, I'm sure. I'll try and check on it when I'm able. Send for me if anything changes."
He placed the blade back on the counter where he'd retrieved it, and made his way for the door. Unless she made a scene over his sudden, but not uncharacteristic departure, he'd exit the building without another word. He'd already said more than was on his mind. He had the sneaking suscpision that she'd not even said the half of what was on hers. Everything was a mess. A complete and utter mess. They'd figure it out somehow.
"...Right?"
