Character History
Kian was born to a life of privilege, the only son of an Endal Argusi and his wife Arshia. When he was little, up until he was about 7 years old, Kian would often visit the Aviaries and was so intrigued by the giant Eagles. That is when he came to realize that life can be fragile like the glass objects the artisans of Wind Reach create. Some lives shatter with the littlest of disturbance or hold strong depending how they are tempered upon the forge.
At the age of 5, Kian's mother, Arshia, died. An explosion of one of the ovens took her life instantly. She was said to be a true artisan, but Kian does not remember much about her. He does not remember what she looked like or how she smelled. All that he can remember is the sound of her sweet voice and the one song she used to sing to him at bed time. This would be one of many of Kian's life lessons.
Kian's father was Argusi, a brave and highly respected Endal warrior until about 10 years ago when Shrill, Argusi's mount and bond eagle, died while on patrol with Argusi. This event caused Argusi to be sent to the Chiet caste and Kian to be sent to the Yasi caste. From what Kian could gather, other Inarta on patrol that day blamed Argusi for the mishap {This is not truly the case, this is from a child's perspective. Argusi fought bravely that day. His father still felt responsible for the loss of Shrill). When he asked his father about that day, he would get no response. Argusi would instead get a faraway look and emotion would seep into the corners of his eyes. This was a hard lesson for Kian on Inarta society and how fragile it can be.
Young Kian had a hard time letting go of his father. Though Kian was assigned to the Yasi caste, he would often sneak off to find his father. At first he was given a lot of leniency, but this was a mistake on the part of the elders for Kian kept going to the Drudges.
With each passing year, Argusi grew more distant. Soon Kian's father was moved to the Dek caste for his inability to stay focused, and the elders forced Kian to remain in the Yasi caste. When Kian was 11, his father came to him unexpectedly and in fact it was the only time his father had sought him out. Without a word Argusi left him his Talon Sword. After that day, Kian never saw his father gain. It took many inquiries during his off hours, but he heard rumor that his father left Wind Reach, for where he was not certain. All Kian knew was that from that point on he had to become proficient enough to defend himself, to be able to hunt and survive in the wilderness, so that one day he could leave Wind Reach and search for his father. That is all that he has been occupied with since.
Kian blames himself for his father leaving Wind Reach. He is not sure if it was because he reminded him of the past and would not let it go, or if it was because he kept getting into trouble. Either way, he feels the need to leave Wind Reach and try to reunite with his father.
Kian has been tempered with the hardships of his youth. He is determined to exist and find his father. He is also not ruled just by his emotions alone. He knows he must have the skills to survive before venturing forth so he practices his bowmanship, sword fighting and survival skills. He has little friends and little trust of anyone. He is starting to feel the loneliness, even though he is surrounded by others of his Caste. Note: All this is truly in vane. Argusi, Kians father, is dead. Kian would realize this if he actually reflected upon the situation. His father could not survive without his sword in the wilderness. Whether it was to be spared the true reason of Argusi's death or a dek's musing of life else where instead of on the bottom, the truth for now is unknown to Kian.
