Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 21 Birthday: Spring 34, 492 AV Birthplace: Syliras
Appearance: Aleixo is about six feet tall, with a muscular build and a lot of upper body strength, from his work as a blacksmith. His skin is swarthy, and his coloring on the darkish side, with short, dark brown hair and dark hazel/light brown eyes. He dresses like a poor man, and right now his clothing is travel worn and rather dirty.
Character Concept
Aleixo is a hard working, hard headed young man who is both stubborn and a bit hot headed as well. Generally speaking, he is a good person. But he can be impulsive and sometimes lets his heart rule his head. He is passionate about what he believes in and can be pretty outspoken. This has often led him to getting into fights. He was always a dutiful son and helped his parents out. When they passed on, he was as loyal to his younger sister and he's protective of her - which has resulted in their current turn of fortunes. He's pretty smart, though, and if he can keep his temped under control, he might well do OK, beginning life over in Endrykas.
Character History
Aleixo was born and raised in Syliras. He was the elder of two surviving children born to poor but hard working parents. His father was a blacksmith and his mother a seamstress. The only other child born to the couple who survived past infancy was his younger sister, Antia, who is three years his junior. Both children were expected to be helpful around the home according to their age level, and when Aleixo was about seven or so he began to accompany his father to the forge where he was employed, and he began to learn the trade of smithing. Antia stayed at home with their mother and learned how to sew and embroider, with some considerable skill. They got along well enough, and rarely went without food. Life was hard, but not unbearable. They lived in a city where the knights kept order, in an efficient and brutal way, and Aleixo was always raised to have a hefty respect for the pointy end of a sword, and the authority of those who wielded such weapons.
When Aleixo was eighteen, his parents both died of a summer fever that ran through the city with a harsh and heavy hand. It fell to him to care for Antia, and at least both had acquired enough skill in their jobs to be able to find employment. They continued to live together, and no doubt eventually they would have both sought out spouses and begun families of their own. But fate intervened. In the middle of summer of 513, a neighbor of theirs, who had always looked at Antia with lechery in his heart, took advantage of a night when Aleixo was out with some friends. He forced his way into their shared apartment, and forced himself on the girl. She struggled and screamed but was soon overcome and held down. Once finished, the perpetrator left her sobbing, to be discovered by Aleixo upon his return home. When Antia had told him what had happened, Aleixo basically lost his head, and instead of reporting it to the knights, he went to confront the villain. This man of course denied all, and taunted the younger man that if he did tell, he’d see that Antia’s name was dragged through the streets of the city and she’d be branded a slut. Aleixo, in a fit of rage, threw himself at the man. They grappled and fought and pretty soon Aleixo had managed to get his hands about the throat of the man. Without meaning to, without thinking, he squeezed and squeezed until the man's windpipe was crushed. Finally seeing what he had done, Aleixo returned to his sister and hurriedly prepared the both of them to travel. He told Antia what he had done, and he told her that they must flee the city before he was arrested and summarily executed. Antia, stunned and bewildred by all that had transpired on that fateful night, silently obeyed her brother. They gathered their few belongings and a bit of money they had put by, and left the city.
Aleixo’s plan was to travel not far down the Kabrin road and hope to encounter a merchant caravan travelling to Zeltiva. They’d pay to be allowed to travel along with it, and he could hopefully defray some of the costs with fixing tools and such for the traders. But once again, fate stepped in. The two had traveled for two days, walking slowly as Antia was really in bad shape – more mentally and emotionally than physically, though she had sustained some real injuries as well. But on the night of the second day, as they made a small camp fire and hoped that on the morrow they might run upon some other travelers, another entirely unlooked for band of strangers descended upon them, and an entirely new chapter in their lives was to begin.
The strangers were Drykas raiders, out looking for ‘strays’ that they could take captive, and take back to their wandering city, to incorporate them into their depleted population. With an arrow pointed at his heart, Aleixo was told in no uncertain terms that his sister was going with the raiders, and he could come too, if he did so willingly and without causing any trouble or trying to escape. Aleixo was at first alarmed, of course, but when he considered his options, and what the Drykas had to say, he thought that, given the circumstances, he could do far worse than to accept their terms. He could not return to Syliras and the journey to Zeltiva would be hard on Antia, and their prospects, when they reached the new city, uncertain. Besides, his alternative seemed to be either let these wild riders carry Antia away from him, never to be seen again most probably – or resist and have an arrow through his heart. The choice seemed to be an easy one from that point.
With watchful eyes, Aleixo barely left Antia’s side for a moment, during their journey across the vast sea of grass – a sight that Aleixo found truly amazing. Antia was not faring well – both her mind and body seemed broken, and she became quite ill. There were those amongst the Drykas who examined her and proclaimed that, for one thing, it appeared that she now was carrying a child. Aleixo was appalled, but what could anyone do about this? In due time, they arrived in the great tent city, and were overall treated more as guests than slaves – though the reality was clear – they could not leave. Back and forth, Aleixo has questioned if he made the right decision. But really, it had been made for him. And not a moment goes by that he does not regret that he took matters into his own hands, back in Syliras. Now, he must hope that things will perhaps take a turn for the better, here in this new city, this new land, as he and Antia await what fate has in store for them now. Aleixo understands fully that he and his sister may not end up in the same “pavilion” – a new word and a new concept to their Syliran ears. But at least he has hope that, should they be separated, they will at least be able to remain in contact with one another. As for himself, he hopes that perhaps skill at the forge and diligence in his work, should he be allowed to work as a smith, might one day result in a freedom of sorts. In terms of Endrykas being a new and strange place, with its own ways, its own language, its unique traditions and customs, well, no matter where he and Antia had ended up, they would have had to make adjustments. So, he tries to remain hopeful, as he waits for the day when all those taken in raids will find a “new family” – which could amount to no more than, “masters and owners.”

NPC Antia :
Name: Antia Age: 18 Race: Human Gender: Female Relationship: Sister
Antia is Aleixo’s younger (and only) sister. They were both born and raised in Syliras. Antia learned how to sew and embroider from their mother. Back in the summer of 513, Antia was sexually assaulted by a neighbor, triggering a series of events whereby Aleixo inadvertently killed the guy in a rage, and then they had to feel Syliras. Outside the city, they were come upon by Drykas raiders, and Antia was taken captive. Aleixo decided to come with her and try for a new life in Endrykas. As of early Fall, 513, Antia is in the early stages of a pregnancy that resulted from the assault. She’s been quite traumatized by everything and is extremely weak and not in good health. She is being “sold” at auction on Fall 10, 513.
Before all this transpired, Antia was a sweet young woman with a pleasant disposition. She was always rather timid though, and a bit melancholy after her parents died three years ago. She has a deep affection for her brother, though she would gently chide him not to be so stubborn and hot headed. She is pretty, and rather petite, with dark hair and eyes and a swarthy complexion.
