The measurements and first stitches

OOCBitta is a Symenestra term of endearment to children

Drusilla arrived back at the Craft Gallery with a sigh, measuring the wriggling Kindergartners had proved much harder than she had thought, and she had thought it would be hard. She sat down for a moment trying to gather her thoughts. She rubbed her temples thinking over the ordeal that had just occurred.

She had been asked to measure the children for costumes to add color to their play and like a fool she had accepted. Had it been one or two kids things would of still been hectic but this was a large group of the little devils. "Bitta! Please stay still. I need to get your measurements." If that hadn't been bad enough there were constant questions, which she tried to answer. "Why is your hair white? Is it because your really old? Is it because you're sick?" That led to "Ewwww she's sick! Ewww!" Then they took off in all directions running this way and that. Somehow with the help of the teachers all of kids were measured and reassured that Drusilla was not sick nor really old.

After taking a few moments to gather her sanity she got to her feet and began to make patterns in various sizes that she had gathered earlier from measuring the children. Each pattern had a name written on it, the last thing Dru wanted to do was mix the costumes up. Most were going to be eagles. Dru made some notes on colors and textures on each pattern. "No two should be identical to one another. Just some subtle color differences...." She made a few more notes and stepped back to look over everything. Seeing that all was in proper order she gave herself a nod and set off to pick out swatches of fabric.

Drusilla carried armfuls of colorful swatches back to the table. She laid out the swatches by color and texture until the table had become a colorful display. She looked over the patches carefully. "Well golds and browns, of course. Reds. . All the warm colors will work really when you think about it..... Although, come to think of it I have seen Wind Eagles with bluish tints and some with white.." She began to remove some of the unsatisfactory fabrics and colors placing them back in their proper places. "The play is around the season change. I'll need to use warmer fabrics.... The base of the costumes can be made of a neutral brown wool, that way I can use thinner colorful fabrics over it to get the eagles' colors and keep the Bitta warm."

Drusilla made her rounds of collecting textile rolls of brown wool, she doubted she would need all that she brought but it never hurt to have extra. With the first roll unrolled, she began pinning the original patterns to the wool. After insuring that the pins were holding to the wool, she began to cut around the pattern with great accuracy, making sure that no material was wasted. She hummed to herself knowing that cutting the pieces of the costumes would be a tedious job. Drusilla had a long night ahead of her, and she would for awhile.

Drusilla had found making the costumes as a great honor and as a test to herself. It was a way of keeping her skills sharp and seeing if there was need for improvement. There was always room for improvement, right?

It went on for hours, front, back, sleeves, repeat. Each cut with the utmost care. Front. How many had she done by now? Back. Not even half of the children. Sleeves. But it had been a good start to everything. Now as the feeling was leaving her fingers, she knew her night was done, almost.

With a tired yawn Drusilla began to return the materials to their rightful places. She'd sleep well tonight, dreaming of a flock of Sparrow Bitta playfully fluttering here and there. It was a great eve to her Birthday.

Notes:
A very short thread, Drusilla. Without any real description, I couldn’t give you any XP in sewing. Descriptions, even ones that might describe obvious actions will help you to gain skill. Naming and describing stitches, preparing materials, thread, a needle, etc. all bring you more XP. Just bear that in mind for future threads. More posts also increase your chances of gaining more XP in skills as well as lore. Hope to see more threads from you in the future.

Remember if you have any questions or problems with your grade then feel free to PM me.
