Snowdrop looked up at the building,Stories in the Snow. Today was her first day of her job. She was so freaking excited. Finally she can put her skill to the test, which isn't much. Cheering herself up a little, she walked inside. Yellow colored eyes slowly faded into red. The library was a little small considered to others she saw in a picture book.
After finding the front desk, she took a deep breath and approached it. There was a young man sitting there. Snowdrop tapped the top of the desk to get his attention. Which luckily worked out for her. The man looked up at her with a questioning look.
"How may I help you," he spoke. Snowdrop felt her confidence slip away. She wasn't really use to talking to people she didn't know. "W-well I'm here about the job of being a S-Scribe," she stumbled over her words. A light blush started to adorn her brown cheeks. The man smiled a little from that.
"Right. Mr.Naturdan told me about you. Snowdrop, right?" Snowdrop nodded and asked for his name. "I'm Jack. Jack Skyglow."He got up and told her to follow him.
The two went into a different room in the back of the library. Jack sat in one of the many chair and gestured for the teen to sit too. Before she could sit fully down, Jack told her to get some type of wooden block. It had a slanted surface. ]"That stump right there, is at a 45 degree angle. That's the right way to be writing," he commented.
"So right now I need you to copy everything I say...here," Jack pushed a quill and a piece of paper in front of her. Snowdrop hands shook a little as she reached for the items and put them on the stump. She took a deep breath and waited for him to speak.
"Osha likes to bake pretty blue muffins, but lately she feels blue like the wide sky. So instead, she made a pink muffins. Everything was well in the world again," he finished.
Snowdrop put the quill down and waited till he checked her paper. A slight frown came his face.
Snowdrop's Paper:
Ohsha likes too bak pretty blue muffins butt lately she feals blue like the wid sky. So instead she mad a pink muffins. Everything was well in the world agin.
He wasn't mad her at all, but a little annoyed about how she wrote. Jack gave out a sigh and went around the table to explain the problems with her work. "Your calligraphy isn't that bad. You have to work on that a little more. The big problem is your grammar. Also, you need to work on your punctuation," he spoke quietly.
Snowdrop nodded as he talked. She was embarrassed by all the mistakes she made. Jack got up and went to one of the cabinets and pulled out several pieces of paper. "Practice your writing with these," he gave her some sheets of paper with lines of letters on them. Snowdrop looked down at the papers then at her hand; it was shaking nervously. She let her fingers slowly guide over the letters. The first letter was a cursive A. She started at the top then went down with a downward curve. Then up again and down the same line with a little tail. She repeated this task several times with the same letter. There were blotches everywhere and the letters were all squiggly.
This wasn’t how she was expecting them to look like.
He looked out the window and noticed that it was getting dark.
Snowdrop left and went home in the Snowsong Hold. She went down stairs to the Strings 'n Things. With puppy eyes and little pout, she was able to get a block of wood and a chisel from Parrsni. She steadied the chisel at top of the stump and pushed it down in a slanted line. With the help from Parrnsi, the block was slanted at 45 degrees crooked but flat. Good, now she had a place to practice with.
She headed back upstairs with it and lay down. Today was really a stressful day.
