A day in the Aeries

Erade's latest bendi was working in the Aeries. Normally the yasi was excited to be working with and around the beautiful dire eagles, but so much as been going on this season that it has put a damper on the young girls mind. She was still happy in a way that she was doing one of her favourite bendi though even if it was cleaning up bird poop.

To reach the Aeries, one had to make a long trip up a lot of staircases and hallways. For once Erade left her room early enough so she wouldn't be late and have to rush to get there. However she still kept at a brisk walk just to make sure. The yasi was actually proud of herself for getting up on time, ready and out of her room all by the sixth bell.

As she walked, Erade daydreamed about bonding to a Wind Eagle and what its personality would be like. It would be a fletching who would like exploring just as much as her. The eagle would probably be complete opposite in personality from her being moody and pessimistic all the time but despite that they would find a way to fill in for each others flaws, making them stronger.

Childish and obvious line of thinking none the less but it brought a smile to Erade's face all the same. As long as she could remember and first saw the Wind Eagles, the teen wanted to badly bond with one. Maybe today would be the day?

Erade reached the Aeries and a whole 10 chimes early. That had to be a new record of some kind, or at least a first in the yasi's book. Beaming with pride, she got to work in the first aerie, a nesting one. Last spring two eggs successfully hatched and there was a big celebration. The yasi haven't attended to the mother or her little ones before now so was unsure what to expect.

"Hello, my bendi assignment is to clean and tend to the Aeries." The mother glanced only momentarily in her direction before paying her no mind and continued to preen her feathers. Erade suddenly felt nervous and was unsure why. She had worked in the Aeries multiple times and this was no different just a possible cranky and hormonal mother with nestlings. It could be the fact that the mother just had basically blown her off.

Trying not to let it get to her too much, Erade began to sweep the floor. A dek must have been here a several bells ago because the aerie was already practically clean except the occasional feather here and there and a fresh kill.

The mothers mating pair must have brought it for her. "I cant imagine how far he had to go to get this buck." Erade whispered but her voice still echoed amongst the stone walls.

Hunting has been absolutely horrible this season and Erade would know from first hand experience. She supposed if one could fly long distances they would probably have better success.

Erade grab the buck by its trophy and pulled it closer to the nest so she could scrub the floor next. The yasi had to leave the aerie to get a bucket of water. The water however wasn't fresh even after being boiled. It was still a cloudy murky color with a funny smell to it as it have been this entire season. If she were to drink it, it would have a funny taste to it and if enough consumed the yasi would become sick.

The teen wasn't wholly sure that it was safe to be scrubbing the floor with the water because quickly the space was taking on a faint smell that of the water but what other choice did she have.

A day in the Aeries

Postby Erade on November 5th, 2013, 4:15 am

The ventilation in the Nesting aerie did its job alot better than Erade suspected. The faint offensive odor was being sucked up and away but still seemed to cling to her hands and clothes. The yasi was glad of the turn of events and hurried off to grab a broom to sweep the extra water away and to scrub the ground where the blood of the kill lingered.

Once again the task was quick and easy. The broom easily swept the water out the entrance of the aerie, only occasionally would get trapped in pockets or grooves within the floor. The scrubbing was a bit harder due to the blood being stubborn of releasing itself from the floor. Erade had to put her weight into the little hand brush so she could scrub harder. She wasn't sure if she should be glad that it was fairly easy this time around or be a bit angry that a dek stole her favorite bendi work from her. The job was done in little under a bell and a half. Erade really wanted to spend more time in the nesting aerie and perchance upon seeing the nestlings but no such luck. Nothing she could do about it now, maybe next time.

Erade moved on to the next aerie, this time the space wasn't as clean as the previous one. Apparently the occupant was a messy eater and frequent waste producer. Grimacing at the mess, she was slow to get to work. The yasi slowly kicked the shovel under a pile of poop that was closest to her. It wasn't fresh so it took some effort to even get under it. Even when she was under it enough she couldn't get it all in one go, the poop would crumbled and just make a bigger mess.

"This is just petching ridiculous!" Erade exasperated. Just then the owner of the aerie returned.

He regarded her at first with curiosity then quickly turned around and squirted a giant glop of more poop. Erade stood there with her mouth slightly opened. She couldn't believe it. The Wind eagle clearly could see she was trying to clean and yet he was adding to it. The teen frowned in disapproval, "Didnt your mother ever tell you it was rude to shit when someone is trying to clean up?" Probably wasn't the best come back she has ever made but right now she couldn't be bothered by formality of it all.

The eagle turned back around, interest peaked that this little girl had the audacity to lecture him. "Its my aerie, I can do as I please with it. Besides its your job as a dek to do it and I expect to see my magnificent beak once you are done."

The fleglings voice was melodious inside her head. In-between the beginnings of a deepening of his voice was a hint of sophistication. It spurred his arrogance but fueled his impulsive nature. The yasi normally would have been ecstatic that the wind eagle had acknowledged her and spoke to her but right now she was still too hot headed. Erade knew it was probably no good to argue with the giant bird but she wasn't going to sit by as he degraded her by calling her a dek. "Look you.. Let's get one thing straight. I am a Yasi not a dek which can be clearly seen that in not wearing a lontev thank you very much!"

With every word the teen slightly raised her voice more and more so by the time she finished she was shouting. During her entire rant the eagle had decided to preen its feathers clearly not caring for the distinction of between the two caste. All he saw was they both cleaned his home so no point in trying to recognize the two.

A day in the Aeries

Postby Erade on December 16th, 2013, 7:49 am

This fledgling clearly knew how to get under her skin but then again it is any yasi's fear of being casted as a dek. The Wind Eagle wasn't paying her any further attention and it only made the teen anger grow.

She fumed and grumbled over her work as she continued to scrape at giant bird poop piles. This morning she had started out lovely and excited and it had quickly plummet to cleaning this foul bird's living space. He clearly was the epitome of a young bachelor and his aerie his pad. Erade had no idea how he planned to attract a proper mate. The yasi was primarily angry not at herself because she couldn't think of a proper prank to pull on the high and mighty fledgling.

The teen finally finished scraping 45 chimes later. The Wind Eagle had taken the moment to take a nap. Erade welcomed the silence of no snide remarks or at least as much as you can receive past the sounds of scraping and a slightly snoring bird. She swept up the last remaining flecks that had eluded her shovel.

"That's it!" Erade whispered to her self excitedly. The thought of the shovel have given her an idea. It was probably childish in nature but she couldn't give up the chance of slightly getting the giant bird back for all its trash talking.

Slowly inching her way forward, Erade made her way to the fledging's nest. The teen tried to remain as quiet as possible but she still seemed too loud in her mind. Clearly the bird could hear her heart that threatened to come out of her chest at any moment, her steps far too loud which equaled to stomping, and somehow the very shovel in her hand was creating some noise as well. It was all in Erade's head but she couldn't help the slight paranoia that was slowly embracing her mind.

The yasi reached the edge of the nest a chime or two later but to her it seemed like a bell. Erade quietly raised the shovel above her head, only pausing for a moment to see if the Wind Eagle still remained asleep. Bringing the shovel down hard and fast, she banged it against the floor. A loud clang echoed off the walls of the aerie, intensifying the noise at least 2 fold.

The dire bird snapped out of its slumber with a loud screeched of alarm. He quickly took off causing a wind current that was strong enough to knock Erade down on her butt. It hurt like hell, and caught her off guard but she didn't care. The girl was laughing hysterically, tear only a brink away and stomach soon to ache. The reaction of the Wind Eagle was priceless.

Probably never the best idea to scare something that is ten times bigger than you and could rip you to shreds. Also probably not a good idea to scare a Wind Eagle in general, they tend to be a prideful bunch.

The Wind Eagle, who had announced his name was Koired, was now carrying Erade by her middle section like she was some fish that he just caught. To say he was angry was more than likely an understatement, and furious or livid was more accurate. All the yasi could do was scream for her life as she was being helplessly carried off to destinations unknown.

The flight was fast, wasn't far and their destination was becoming clear to Erade, the Twin lakes. As soon as she saw the masses of water, the teen instantly knew what Koired was planning. Her screaming started up again but just the same was no use in the tight grip of the eagle.

Koired circled a few times above both lakes before flying over the smaller lake, Shivias. Erade wanted to scream further but already her throat was scratchy and hurt some from yelling the while time to the lakes. The wind eagle looked to be deciding where would be the perfect spot to do his nefarious deed but then again it was hard to know what he he was planning exactly. All Erade could truly think about was the dark water below her and praying to whatever god or goddess willing to listen that he didnt drop her in the hotter waters of Kanti. It almost looked like Koired was going to but at the last tick he went past.

At several feet above the lake, the eagle slowly released his grip on the yasi, clearly savoring Erade's fright. Hanging upside down, the eagle was only holding her by her left leg. He held her there for a half a chime, then briskly dropped the teen, and turned back around to head back to its own aerie again.

"I do hope you know how to swim little dek." Koired sneered as his voice slowly faded from her mind.

Erade could only watch as the water quickly approached her and just as quickly swallow her up. In the midst of falling she had forgotten to take a breathe of air. The teen had no idea how to swim or at least properly but she did know she needed to make her way to the surface. Despite knowing this she couldn't help but panic some as she flailed her arms and legs so. The surface seemed so far away and her efforts to swim was not helping her progress closer to it.

Erade finally broke the surface not moments later but coughed and hacked as she tried to stay afloat. The grassy area was not too far but she still had to swim to it. She moved towards the grass at a slow snail pace using a technique somewhere between a doggy paddle and side stroke. Every few strokes or so, her head would slide back under the water. By the time Erade did reach the grassy resting area she was sure she had swallowed half the lake.

The yasi remained on the grass bent over, breathing heavily and the occasional hack up of lake water. The teen couldn't help but make a mental assessment of the current situation. Her byrda clung to her and her hair dripping water on the ground below. She was fortunate to still have both of her sandals and realized they probably slowed her swimming efforts. Not to mention the most important thing of all, never ever ever EVER scare a sleeping Wind Eagle. Duely noted.

Erade looked up a few chimes later, knowing already Koired was no where in sight but she did so anyways. Despite him dropping her in the water, and nearly drowning her, Erade had to admit it was a pretty good idea for on the spot and last minute. He even spared her life.. well sort of by dropping her in the water instead off the side of the mountain.

Luckily for her the Inner Warrens were right through the passage off to her left but she was cold, wet, and semi drowned. Not to mention, she isn't suppose to be here but doing her bendi. The teen was surely going to get in trouble for this.

The girl groaned and made way towards the opening in the side of the mountain. Erade had the choice of going back to her little space with the yasi quarters or return to her bendi and hope she won't receive too much of a punishment for scaring a Wind eagle and in return got so nicely dropped off in one of the twin lakes therefore making her negligent in her bendi.

Letting out an exasperating sigh, Erade decided to return to the Aeries and finish. She was more than likely sure leaving puddles behind her but right now she didn't care.
