Arcturus

Appearance

Race: Ethaefal, son of Leth (Svefra)
Gender: Male
Age: 313 years old
Birthday: 1st of Spring, 200 AV
Location of Fall: The Suvan Sea

Appearance: What do you look like?

Arcturus stands at a height of 6'10'', weighing approximately 200 pounds in his Ethaefal form. He maintains a not-quite-muscular body, having developed a slight dislike of physical exercise after living in Riverfall. There are no signs of excess fat though, and that is all that he requires. His eyes are silver in colour; his facial structure may be considered pleasant, although melancholy can be easily detected. Horns sprout from either side of his head. In a manner like that of antlers, though less elaborate and rounded. His facial hair varies from season to season, determined solely by his whims; it ranges from stubble to a short beard.

In Spring, his hair is a deep shade of prussian blue with strains of silver. His horns turn white. In Summer, his hair becomes raven-black, and his horns turn spring green. In Fall, his hair is now gold, and his horns a bright aureolin. Finally, in Winter, his hair becomes as silver as his eyes, his horns changing into a solid black.

As a Svefra, Arcturus' height decreases to 6 feet, his weight decreasing to roughly 175 pounds. He often takes the name of Wavedeep when amongst the Svefra in order to blend in further. A faded whale tattoo with the name Cetus is found on his left shoulder. His body is much more muscular than his Ethaefal form, and has several scars marking his frequent fights.

Character Personality

Creation

As a Magecrafter, Arcturus desires to create. A dagger imbued with anti-Zith properties? A chalice of ivory designed to enhance the properties of wine drunk from it? Arcturus cares not for what purpose his items are made for (unless they go against his moral code), only that the process of creation is elegant and as perfect as possible.

His foremost ambition is to surpass Areesa Tallshade.

Serenity

Accepting the loss of Spica has done wonders for him; no longer is he moping about most of the time, but he had developed a serene demeanor. Having gone through such a severe loss, Arcturus has developed a generally peaceful state of mind, undisturbed by all but the most severe distractions.

Compassion

A love of all things living is inherent in this Ethaefal. After traversing Mizahar for so long, Arcturus has nurtured a sense of compassion towards all living things, and will not deliberately bring harm to any being unless he must do so.

Wrath

Arcturus was possessed with a great anger towards Leth in the days after he fell, questioning his fall from grace. The anger soon faded, but it would always remain within himself. At times of high emotion, he would display the same wrath. One too many of such incidents was the main reason for him leaving Zeltiva. It continued in Syliras and other cities, where he could not control himself whenever he mis-crafted an item. But his wrath abated once he met Spica. She alone could calm him down, and he learnt to enjoy the peace of serenity, instead of the exhilaration of expressing anger. Now, he does not fly into a rage at the slightest of mistakes, but he will do so in much more severe situations.

Absent-mindedness

Arcturus can be said to imitate the typical absent-minded professor in his mannerisms. Forgetful about most everything except anything concerning magic and Spica in general, Arcturus can be often seen not having meals just because he forgot to do so, regardless of whether he was actually focusing on his work. He makes an attempt to keep appointments with friends, acquaintances or important individuals, but may still be late or not show up at all.

In conversations that do not quite cover his areas of interest, Arcturus will begin to drift off to his own thoughts. Perhaps a tad attention-deficit, this Ethaefal will be distracted by anything even mildly interesting to his mind - perhaps a magical artifact of some sort with unique effects.

Character History

Chapter One: I Fell.

I fell. From the moonlit domain of Leth, where we could be closest to our God, whom we loved dearly, to Mizahar. Mortality seeped into my now corporeal body even as I tasted the saltiness of the sea waters as I had in a previous life. The Svefra, my once-kin, picked me up like a babe from the frothing waters whence I had emerged into this strange land, and let me recuperate inside their palavar.

They thought I was one of their own, my mortal form being like them, with a faded tattoo of a whale. I tried to tell them my name, my true name, but the words would not leave my throat. They would forever be in my mind, but I could never speak the sweet tongue. The Svefra - members of the Wavedeep Pod - searched for my Tavan until just before Syna gave way to Leth, but they failed. They told me that it was most probably lost, but I cared not. It was long ago, and what memories I had were faint.

I was wrathful. I screamed at the Moon, but Leth did not reply. He was silent. I soon realised the gravity of my situation - that I was now a mortal. My anger faded.

When Leth appeared in the sky days after my rage subsided, my mortal form faded, giving rise to a form most beauteous and perfect in all of its aspects - but it was not myself. It was a mockery of what I once was, and Leth's light was too faint. I could not help it; I spent the entire night silently staring at His light, crying until I could not do so. I was filled with joy, but now I had lost all of it. Did Leth not love me anymore? Was I now a liability?

I continued to have faith in him throughout those dark days. I banished all angry thoughts about him, hoping against all hope that this was another mission he sent me on, and that I would return to the Ukalas once I was done.

We continued sailing through the seas, and I easily regained the use of Fratava - the language of the Svefra. But they told me that it was not enough; that I had to learn the common language of Mizahar, one more sedate than the Svefra tongue. But learn I did, so eager was I to forget my fall.

We sailed to the Anchorage Flotilla, where I stayed for a while before my memories, though faint and half-forgotten, resurged. I had to move away. I found passage on a small casinor, and I travelled to Zeltiva, where I had heard of a wondrous place they called the University. It held knowledge, perhaps even enough to find a way to return to the Ukalas.

Chapter Two: Passion.

The University of Zeltiva was marvellous. There, I found what was to be a driving force of my life. I studied Magecrafting intensely, finding that the creation of beautiful, magical items gave me a feeling so intense, that it nearly surpassed the emotions I felt when I fell. My mind had began to heal, and I turned to Leth once again, feeling hope for the first time. Hope, that I would craft something that allowed me to perhaps once again see into what was once my Home.

I tarried there for years, enjoying the sights and crafting simple items, even taking some time off on sabbaticals to sail with the Wavedeeps whenever they were in Zeltiva. I practiced other magics, but they were but simple lessons used to pass the time whenever I had finished crafting.

I next moved to Syliras, where I found a master in Akvin Kultra, a strange being that was unlike any mortal that I had ever known. There I gained enough experience to pronounce myself able to craft more than just the most basic of items in a laboratory. But it was dull there. I had only my craft to amuse myself with, and the Syliran Knights made the atmosphere all too confining - especially within the stifling confines of the Citadel, where I could barely catch a glance of Leth at times.

I travelled much in the next hundred-and-twenty years, wandering from place to place in my desire to learn about different races' cultures. Riverfall was perhaps a little too insistent on physical fitness. I managed to open up a small business there, but I closed it down just before I left that city of blue men. Alvadas was much more fascinating; it was a city that lived and breathed illusion, and served to satisfy me for over half a century. It was then I heard the call of Lhavit, the city that was striving to resemble the Ukalas, the city that was a haven of the arcane arts and Ethaefal. I met the descendents of those who had lifted me up from the waters, and departed in their Palavar.

Chapter Three: I found Love.

When we were nearing Black Rock for a short stopover, She fell into my life. A Synaborn, a radiant being that took the name of Spica. I knew that she would be the One, the first person I would ever put my life on the line for. We were in love the moment our eyes met, as I pulled her out of the water and covered her with a blanket. It was no longer I; it would now be us. The Svefra who accompanied us on the journey said that we spent most nights talking to each other, heedless of the others.

Spica tamed me. So young, yet so wise. She healed me of all the conflicted thoughts I had about Leth. She taught me to control my emotions and embrace the delights our mortal lives had to offer. I lashed out at her once, when I had to retie the knots I had not tied properly, spending bells just trying to fix my mistakes. I saw her beautiful face - tears were present, but she still tried to smile and said it was alright. I knew then that I had to change myself for the better. For Spica.

We arrived at Lhavit and found a simple place to stay. It had become our paradise, where we could be closest to each other, the Ukalas whence we had fallen and our Gods, entwained together in an eternal union like ours. She herself shared my love of creation, but she expressed hers in a different discipline: Alchemy. We shared all that we had together, and oftentimes spent much time away from our work, walking the Trail of Rainbows or delighting in the picnics at Alheas Park.

Chapter Four: I lost Love.

But one day, she disappeared.

Nothing was found to indicate that she had left, whether of her own free will or by force. The Shinya that came were immensely puzzled. I was distraught beyond measure, neglecting all my work and spending all day inside our cottage, searching every square inch of that now accursed place for a trace, a sign of where she might have gone.

I could not bear living in Lhavit without her. A year passed with no sign of why she departed, and I left the Ethaefal paradise for other wilder lands.

I spent years in Wind Reach and Avanthal, delving into the abyssal depths of despair and sorrow, attempting to get over her. She would continue to be missing, and I had no hope that she would someday come back to me.

The years went by - some as slow as the turtles on land were, and others as swift as the Wind Eagles - and the pain, the torment slowly faded. I gained enough courage to move back to Lhavit, but I would perhaps forever be missing a part of my soul.
