Iyone Semestrong Goes by Iyone (iy own) or Iy Female Drykas Brought into this world in Endrykas in the Season of Spring, Day 3, 494AV Lives in Endrykas at the Semestrong Pavilion of the Amethyst Clan Languages
Physical Description First thing most see when they first see Iyone Semestrong is her black hair swaying in the breeze while the rest of that hair is up in braids all over, this way and that way, Wraps of purple with decorated beads or stones, woven through the braids. When undone the hair must reach her thigh or even longer. The next would be her tanned skin that shows she isn’t one to stay in the shade away from the sun rays. Her eyes are almost as dark as her hair but they have a pool of light brown that soften them up. The rest of her body looks just like any other young woman except maybe shorter at only 5 feet and 1 inch and lithe at only 100 pounds. Looking further upon her you might notice strange contraptions, braces, around both of her legs. It looks as if it’s meant to keep the legs and knee from bending or twisting. The one on the right leg goes up higher than the one on the left. Standing and walking she uses two walking sticks. Looking closer now you’d see in fact the left arm doesn’t stretch out completely straight and the wrist is holding the hand at a slight curve. She wears long tight fitting pants so the braces can go over them comfortably. And a purple top that shows her shoulders and hugs her comfortably. There are usually scarves of several colors but always an amethyst one that holds the most color to always make it pop out from the others. Iyone has a scar on her right knee from when she wasn't watching the ground where she was crawling after her brothers and crawled right over a sharp rock that tore into her knee. She also has four tattoos: 1. Is her Windmarks that she got when she was six. It lies on the back of her right hand. 2. When she was ten she added color to her Windmarks. The color was chosen because it's in the Amethyst color family. 3. This was done when she was fourteen and she was feeling more connected with friends, family and the world around her. It is on the back right shoulder blade. 4. Another addition to her Windmarks at age sixteen, an intricate weave of knot work around the original Windmarks to show her and Paxa's relationship growing through all the years. 5. After her marriage ceremony at age seventeen to Kavid, Charla and Teva Freefall they all went to the tattoo shop and they added to their own tattoos and she got this one that is similar to the ones they had. It signified that she was married to Kavid but that it took all four of them to make it work. It is on her 'ring' finger on her left hand. 6. This one she got on Peora's third birthday when she was eighteen on her right front ankle. The flower looks similar to one that Peora always picks when she sees it and she let Peora pick the color for her name. It's to remind her that although she didn't intend to raise her on her own but that she couldn't imagine any life without her now. Her own little flower that she'll need to help grow so that she can flourish when grown. Character Concept A good way to start to explain Iyone would be to say that she believes that you are lucky to be alive for as long as you are and to enjoy each and every single day. Just like everyone though she isn’t immune to a bout of feeling depressed or disappointed, but she’ll find a way to show something good came from it. She takes her daily activities as a joy to contribute to the family and beyond. Singing is something that just comes out of her and she believes it adds extra love to her activities if she sings while working. Singing is also what helps her continue to keep that positive outlook because she can pour her darkness into a song and let it out. Her voice when singing has slight cracks or squeaks to her tones much like Jazz or Blues with a bit of a drawl added in there. It isn’t a bad sound or a screeching sound either but it isn’t commonly heard. Making music and singing is something that she must do, it’s as important to her as it is to breath. OOC Note :
Iyone's singing voice and many songs she sings are inspired by Gin Wigmore. Listen to this song by her that is one of Iyone's favorite songs. Of course keep in mind that some lyrics would be changed to fit Mizahar. !VOLUME WARNING! It plays loud for me so it probably will for you too!
Just as important to her is her large family. She is close with all of her family and shares a good relationship with all of them including her Sister-in-Laws, Nephews and Nieces. As are her friends, such as her best friend Jerimih who lives in her Pavilion now and is considered a part of her family by the rest of the Pavilion. She loves to laugh and joke around with those she is closest too. She can be shy but does her best to hide it and be outgoing. Now sometimes this combination comes out as an awkward first meeting. After she gets over the speed bumps she’ll treat you as if you are special to her and she couldn’t be happier to have met you and it sure seems to be genuine. She also has a romantic view on life and love and secretly worships Ivak who she thinks has shown how strong and wonderful love can be. It’s the ultimate love story. Now just because she has this view and tries to fulfill it in her life it doesn’t mean she is a gushing schoolgirl or holding out for that Ivak like man to come sweep her off her feet either. These romantic feelings have been suppressed lately though due to the death of her husband and the family that came with him. She has a slightly darker view on life and love but yet in the back of her mind, those old romantic ideas that she just can’t seem to get rid of completely, linger ready to come back. Likes: Riding Paxa in Sea of Grass Singing (Of Course!) Sarcasm Making Wraps with beads, Colored Stoned Jewels. Braiding hair into many twists and turns adding in Wraps. Liquor Sunsets & Rises Dislikes: Being mean for no reason Disrespect Hunting, she finds it dull and mostly hates that she can’t hum or sing while hunting Magic, not all magic like the Web, it’s more a distrust than dislike. She has learned that there are dire consequences to it. Peora Freefall Semestrong Goes by Peora (Pey orr ah), Pey, Peyor, Pey Pey Female Drykas Brought into this world on the 29th Day of Summer of 510AV OOCPeora was approved and is noted in my Storyteller Secrets Physical Description She is 25 pounds and stands at 2 feet 3inches with blond hair and dark blue eyes. Roundish head and tiny ears that stick out just slightly from her head. She has dimples that grace her cheeks when she smiles. Also when smiling her nose crunches upward in tiny wrinkles. Her body is slightly smaller than others her age but not by a lot. She still has some of those baby curls of ‘fat’ on her arms and legs although she is beginning to grow out of that toddler phase into a small child. Languages
Likes: Iyone Semestrong (Iy Iy, Iy-Ma) Gama (Caitey Semestrong) Rest of the Semestrongs Pretty Flowers Braiding Singing and Dancing Snuggles Dislikes: Sitting Still Going to Bed Glassbeaks Fighting Sickness Soup Being told "No" Personality Peora is very much a happy child and constantly busy. She loves to be doing something rather than sit and wait. She rarely relies on others to play with her as she can occupy herself in a world she has created for herself. She does like to play with dollies who she tells stories and sings too. She loves to listen to music and dances when she does. She loves to be around people and does like to play tag or chase with other children. She almost always thinks she can do anything and is fearless and often tries to do what others around her are doing. History Peora was the third child from Charla (Mama) and Kavid (Papa) Freefall and the last of six from both Charla and Kavid’s second wife, Teva, who also had three children. When she was one her father married his third wife, Iyone Semestrong, and as far as Peora can remember Iyone has been around forever. After the marriage the DJed Storm of 512 came and made life very strange, confusing and sad for the young girl. Before her second birthday her second mother (Tev-Ma), and oldest brother were killed by Glassbeaks and the rest of her family caught the Pox that came and took two of her siblings rather quickly. Only two siblings, Charla, Kavid and Iyone, held out to see Peora turn two. Sadly, the day after, Charla died and within ten more days the other two children died. Kavid held out two more days before leaving only Peora and Iyone left of Kavid Freefall’s family. Peora and Iyone managed to fully heal and survive the Pox. Her family Pavilion was burned down along with everything in it because no one trusted the virus. After being released from the Healing Centers Peora was made to be Iyone Semestrong’s child and made both girls were now Semestrongs. Iyone brought Peora back to the Semestrong Pavilion to live with her. It might be a blessing that the child doesn’t really remember all of that very well because for awhile she was pretty much ignored by Iyone and Iyone’s mother, Caitey, took care of her. Eventually Iyone came around and now the two get along wonderfully. Peora loves her Ma very much. But does often wonder about her other family she’ll always only have vague memories of. But anytime she asks about them now Iyone will tell her a story about them and shows her the few pictures they have of their old family. |

Iyone Semestrong
History Family
Iyone’s family’s livelihood consists of raising and breeding Seme, Cyphrus Strider and some Mixed Blooded Horses. They raise the horses to be sold or traded, except for the Cyphrus Striders who pick their riders. They also take care of and house the sick, injured and Cyphrus Striders who have lost their Rider due to death. Hopefully the Strider re-bonds but until then they take care of it. Her father and Svian manage all of the horses’ needs, and studies webbing and helps maintain the webs. Katae is a horse healer and manages the Healing Horses Tent. Citric is in charge of building new fences or stables, or whatever needs to be built. Moxy is in charge of getting the horses sold and helps Citric with any sewing of materials for the builds. Jame trains the horses for any task a buyer may need, he also works at the Race Pavilion as an instructor to the Racers. Panji and her Mother take care of the children and teach them the basics they need and find them apprenticeships. Panji loves to cook when she can. Iyone helps with the sick and injured horses when needed but usually sticks to comforting them. Also makes all of the horses Wraps and braids the horse’s hair adding in the Wraps. Other clan families help out with these tasks too but as employees. Jobs are always open around their moving ranch. Iyone as mentioned above loves to sing but she’s not alone the rest of the family is musically inclined as well. Her father is a wonderful signer and story teller. He too can change his voice to be deeper or have a slight drawl if the song calls for it. The brothers all can sing and will in groups but are not as fanatic about it as Iyone is. Her Father taught them all how to read and write music and often they’d write, make up stories, or sing songs together in the evenings when all the work was done. Citric plays the Mandolin and his wife, Moxy, is the Clapper and Rhythm Rattle player. She also loves to sing with the family. The other wives only sing when everyone else is singing. Becoming A Rider Strider Name: Paxa Strider Birthday: 15th Day of Spring, 496 Strider Description: Stands at 14hh. She is slender and fit. By no means is she underweight or gaunt looking. She on the shorter side against most Striders but that works out perfectly with her Rider as Iyone is shorter as well. Her eyes are a dark brown. She is a Dun with Black and Grey colored mane and tail. Her coat is a darker shade of gray sometimes looking black, and black around her neck and head. Her dorsal stripe is a solid brown color. As are her leg baring marks. Strider Personality: Paxa is extremely patient and calm. She seems to be at peace no matter where she is. If she senses danger her first instinct is to protect and look after her Rider. She loves to prance about to her Riders singing and often bops her head along. She can be playful at times and nick and bite at you as if to tickle you. Very open to others petting her or treating her but no one but Iyone and now Peora can ride her. She loves to go for runs and let the world wiz by them as they go. The Story :
Iyone was six and Paxa four they were together one afternoon and Paxa kneeled down to her knees and nodded with her head toward her back. Pushing with her head to get Iyone on to her back and ride her. Iyone having been taught to ride Cyprus Striders when they haven’t chose you only in dire times and so she hesitated but when Paxa kept pushing on her and moving her body closer to Iyone she realized that she was being asked to ride. So she climbed on and slowly Paxa rose up and slowly walked around with Iyone on her back.
This was the first time Iyone had even gotten on a horse by herself and sat upon a horse without someone walking beside her and holding onto her. Her legs were in her braces so they stuck out and upward some but otherwise she was fine. She was holding on tightly to a bit of Paxa’s mane as she was very excited but also a bit worried because she didn’t have much of a grip around Paxa’s sides with her legs. She just doesn’t have the muscle to do it and because of this she was unbalanced. Paxa sensed this though and kept going at the slow pace but letting out happy neighs ever so often. Iyone had a huge grin on her lips but also a slightly afraid look in her eyes. She wanted badly to yell out to get her family’s attention to show them what she was doing but was afraid to speak. Suddenly Paxa started going almost at a normal walking pace and this made Iyone give out a squeak of surprise mixed with fear. She held on tighter, leaning forward to grab more of the mane. After a few moments though she eased back up to sitting upright but still held on tightly and as if answering someone she said, “Ok.” And with that Paxa answered by walking at her normal walk pace, a squeal was let out from Iyone but this time in pure excitement. She wasn’t really looking at where they were going, as she was too busy watching Paxa and how her own legs were and focusing on her balance. It was now at this point that they had gotten closer to where her brothers were gathering up grass and hay for the horses in the healing area of the ranch. Upon seeing Iyone they all stopped and stared, Chez the eldest nudged Jame and whispered, as to not distract Iyone or Paxa, to go get their parents. They quickly came and watched as Iyone rode around for a few more minutes. They were all very excited because for one, she had been chosen, and two because she was riding on her own. Paxa decided to quicken her pace now to an easy gallop which made Iyone bounce around a bit too much and she yelled out in a slight panic to stop Paxa and Paxa quickly slowed up and then stopped. Her family cheered and clapped and Iyone looked up to see them all and she laughed then said, “I’m a Rider!” And that is how it went down in the Semestrong Rider History Book. Of course her Yvas had to be altered slightly so that she could attach her braces and walking sticks to it and leather hoops that went around her legs to help her keep balance. Then she was able to ride just as well and as fast as the rest of them. Other Dates of Mention 3rd Day of Spring 494AV
Iyone Age 0 - Iyone Semestrong’s Birthday Her father, Ynez Semestrong and his first wife, Caitey, had four young boys when his second Wife, Runner, had her first child, Iyone. She came surprising everyone, feet first instead of head first and her lower legs flop about, one at the thigh and knee, the other one just at the knee, not having the muscle to control it from falling. And her left arm was curled up tightly with her palm almost touching the underside of her wrist. Obviously very strange and not normal, however, she cried and drank her mother’s milk and cooed just like any other baby. The problem seemed to be purely physical and only in the legs and the left arm. After many conversations with the local healer and shaman to try to fix her, to no avail, Runner took off living up to her name, riding her Strider off in the direction of Eyktol, though it isn’t likely she made it. Iyone was only 27 days old when this happened and all she knows is that her birth mother felt cursed and felt she had to leave so no one else would be cursed. Thankfully, Ynez and Caitey didn’t believe Iyone was a product of a curse and loved her just as much as their other children. Ynez never married again and Caitey had given all the babies she could give so Iyone remained the baby of the family. 494AV to 497AV
Iyone Ages 0-2 Being the only daughter in the family, she was doted upon and because of her physical disability she was over protected. It was thought that she wouldn’t be able to crawl let alone walk and no one thought her left arm would amount to be very useful. She quickly showed them all very fast that at least two of those predictions were going to be wrong. Her left arm slowly straightened out to almost full straightness, off by a mere inch. Her elbow continues to have a slight curve. Her hand came upward as well, yet again short of fullness, the wrist is mostly curved downward but she can hold it up so that her arm is straight except for the small elbow curve, but the wrist cannot go higher. Despite those curves she learned to use her arm just as everyone does, maybe slightly different. Her legs didn’t change at all unfortunately but she did learn to crawl like most babies do. Falling to her tummy more often due to not being able to stop her right thigh and knees from giving out on her but she’d quickly get back up and get after whatever she was after which was usually her brothers. She got to be pretty fast chasing them around. When it came to learning to talk and other development nothing else was wrong and she was humming before she could speak and once she did learn the words she sang them more than not. Spring 497AV
Age Three (Just turned) – Figuring out how to Walk She was out among the sick or injured horses singing to them to get better. Petting them and trying to braid their manes. She was constantly around these horses probably because they couldn’t run from her so she had a constant companion when her brothers were busy. One of the sick Strider fillies, a one year old, always neighed for her attention and she gave it freely. The filly would sway or bob its head in time with her singing and humming and let her crawl along its side and back. On this day her father got an idea, he was watching her leaning against the horse and hold onto it and move her feet walking sideways. Her legs moved right along but as long as they were leaning into the filly’s side. For days afterward he was measuring her legs and cutting out leather and cutting wood. He also measured out walking sticks for her. Finally he had a final product, two walking sticks her height and two braces for her knees. They wrapped around her little knees and kept them from being able to bend. Her father had her mother take her legs and the two walked her around. They practiced this every day, her brothers helping too, until she was able to do it herself with the walking sticks. But those braces kept sliding off no matter how tight her father made them plus the right leg thigh would give out often and make her fall. Over the years her father made newer and better improvements upon the braces and her walking sticks, she’d help as much as possible and do just as much as he when she got older. Now the right brace goes all the way from her foot to her thigh and the left goes from her foot to above her knee. They don’t slip that way and the materials have gotten better now that she has stopped growing. The walking sticks have been improved to better fit her arms and better material. The right arm has an open cuff that goes just under her elbow and a handle comes out to her hand then goes on to be a normal sturdy rod to the ground. The left one is a normal steady rod that has a wide and half curve, much like a cane, that her hand can curve along allowing her hand to grip it below the wrist. And the wideness allows her arm above the wrist to rest on it to get better balance and strength. With these adaptations she is able to walk just as fast as most people. She can run but mostly at a normal person jogging speed. Spring 500AV
Iyone Age 6 – Picked out main Skills to Study The Semestrong families had always taught their children a large array of skills so that they could find their interests and at the age of six allowed them to choose an area of Horse Care and another area of skills that they’d like to learn more about. The children can always change skills after studying it for one season if it truly didn’t fit them but it was their way of allowing the children to focus on an expertise and find their places earlier in life. Iyone chose Healing for her Horse Care and chose Crafting skills to focus on, such as sewing, carving, painting, general crafting, Wrap making and Braiding Hair. It was through learning these first choices that she was able to expand her skill set and learn that she loves to make adorned Wraps, board games, other toys and braid. And that although she was fine at learning the healing, she loved to give comfort to those healing horses, but that was all, not learn how to heal them physically. Winter 501AV
Iyone Age 7 – Getting Beat-up, Adding Defensive Fighting to her Learning & Making a Friend For Life Iyone was with the sick horses singing to them as had become a daily routine in her care of them. A young boy, Jerimih Strongwings, had wandered off from his father who was talking to her father about buying a horse. He had heard the singing and had come to see who was singing but when he saw she was moving around on walking sticks and her legs moved funny he taunted her but she had heard it before and paid him no mind and kept singing. Jerimih didn’t like that and came to her and pushed her to the ground and begun to kick her. The horses around neighed and a few tried to come to her aid but it was Citric who had come first hearing the commotion and her yells of help. He quickly jumped into action and started beating up on the kid who was just two years younger than he. This got the parents attention to hear yells and screams. Her father quickly pulled Citric off of the boy and saw Iyone on the ground curled up in a ball. The other father pulled Jerimih away and it quickly came out that the boy was kicking her and that Citric stepped in to put a stop to him. He was punished and made to come shovel horse poop for 20 days. Citric was punished for fighting the boy and not just trying to stop the boy from harming his sister, instead of harming him also. He had to shovel horse poop with the boy for the same 20 days. Before even five days were up he apologized to her and Citric. He explained that he liked her singing and she sounded like what he remembered his mother sounded like, but when he saw she was different and not at all like his mother, it bothered him and he got angry. The three became close friends bonding over music as he loved to write songs and sing just as much as they did. Jerimih just like Citric sang and played the Mandolin. It was after that beating that her father thought she was way to protected because she didn’t know any basic body shielding and he made her learn how to shield off fists, kicks and other attacks, also her brothers taught her how to use her walking sticks in defensive ways in case of an attack and how to attack with them if needed. Dates of Mention Cont. ] Summer 507AV
Iyone Age 13 – Formed the Band ‘Strongs’ Other than the beating incident she had a very nice childhood and came more into herself in her teen years and singing for more than just her family or at Clan gatherings, she started to sing for all of Endrykas. Jerimih and Iyone had written many songs by then and decided it was time to share; they got Citric and his soon to be wife, Moxy, to join with them and formed a group called, Strongs, because of their last names. Iyone and Jerimih take turns as lead singer and sometimes do duets. Moxy and Citric are back-up vocals and Moxy helps Iyone keep rhythm with the Rhythm Rattles and Clappers. They performed at parties, and city gatherings. They never take payment or a gift of supply for it and they doubt they ever will. They always make the giver give it to someone in need. It’s not that they don’t like knowing the people enjoyed it that much but that it’d be like telling any Drykas to forget about their Strider. It’s something they can’t do, neither can they and they can’t not sing either. Winter 511AV
Marriage Arrangement & Marriage A marriage was arranged for Iyone to a man named, Kavid Freefall of the Amethyst Clan (489AV, unrelated), whom she only saw in passing and once sold him a game for his children. She knew nothing about him except his name and that he at least had two girls because he mentioned them when buying the game. Now this wasn’t a total surprise. She sort of figured this would be the way she’d end up being married. However, being such the romantic she was, a part of her did feel disappointed because she hoped she could have had that love connection that drew them to be married. But it hadn’t worked out that way and so she let that silly dream go. Kavid talked to her Father and said he’d buy her a lot of supplies so she could focus on the Toy Making, Wraps and Braiding, she’d come to love doing as long as she helped with the children and taught them what she could. Her Father agreed knowing this was a passion of hers to do just that. Kavid raised and tended Zibri along with a few smaller livestock and his first two wives (Charla and Teva) were hunters. They had six children, one she knew as he was a friend of Jame’s. She didn’t know the others until her first real meeting with them all. She had some ‘solo dates’ with him and some ‘dates’ with his whole family. The children were easy to get along with and all seemed excited she was going to join their family. The youngest, a girl named Peora (often shortened to Pey), recently turned one, and was quite curious of her walking sticks and followed her around. The wives however weren’t as friendly and she would find out later it was because they thought she wouldn’t be able to produce children. She was married, 37th Day of Winter, 511AV. The day number wasn’t lost on her but she didn’t have a choice, she thought of telling Kavid but decided he wouldn’t understand it. Not always did bad things happen on a day or year that had a seven in it. And honestly she knew it shouldn’t bother her but there was something in her that had a feeling that Lhex got a kick out of her noticing it and kept throwing it at her on occasion just as she was dismissing it. The wedding went without a hitch. It was a beautiful day and the celebration was a fun one. It would also be the last time she sang with her Father, Mother and all of her brothers and sister-in-laws[tab=End of Winter 511AV to Summer of 512AV,#BC8F8F,#ccccff][box=500,#BC8F8F,#E18B6D,#ccccff] Marriage Life, DJed Storm, The Pox, Many Family Members Deaths, Becoming a Single Mother Marriage to Kavid turned out to be rather nice and she enjoyed teaching to the children her skills. Kavid continued to be very kind and caring. He made her feel safe and she grew to love him very much. He treated all the wives fairly and with kindness allowing them to be whom they wanted to be and he talked with the wives about the children and together they came up with how they wanted to handle certain things that came up, he wasn’t the end all of all decisions that needed to be made. He equally shared the joys and burdens with all three of them. After only a few days the other wives eased up on her but never missed a chance to remind her of her duty to bring more children into the family. But in essence they enjoyed her constant humming and singing, they loved the way she took to the children and voiced her opinion during the conversations about them. They also rather liked that having her there gave the two of them more time to go out hunting. It wasn’t long though before something bad befell them, the Djed Storm that hit in Spring 512AV, started by the release of the God she most adored, Ivak, brought upon that horrible storm all through Mizahar. Endrykas was warned ahead of time about the storm which gave many a chance to hide underground. Some were not that lucky; among those were Iyone’s eldest brother, Chez, his wife and five children out in the Sea of Grass on their way back from Riverfall. Teva (Kavid’s second wife) and eldest child were killed by the now stronger glassbeaks on a hunt. Before anyone could mourn those lost, the Pox disease came forth and claimed many more Drykas. Summer Day 7th The Pox claimed her and her new family. The cure was not yet perfected and it seemed to take some faster than others. Two of the children died rather quickly after catching the disease. Two children, Iyone, Charla and Kavid held out to see Peora the youngest turn two. Sadly, the day after, Charla died and within ten more days the other two children died. Kavid held out two more days before leaving only Peora and Iyone left of Kavid Freefall’s family, they healed up and were released from healing centers on Day 50th of Summer. Before her marriage was even a year old, it was gone, she had lost her husband, new family, Chez’s family and Katae had given birth to a dead baby. She was devastated and lost. Charged with becoming Kavid’s now orphaned child’s (Peora) mother, she felt she couldn’t do it and yet was ordered by the Pavilion’s head Ankal that she must, it was her family after all. End of Summer 512AV
Iyone Age 18, Peora Age 2 – Return to Semestrong Name and Pavilion, Losing herself, Finding herself, Going Back to Basics She pleaded with her father to help her, he agreed to help. He met with the other Ankal and spoke on her behalf. It wasn’t until after he returned that she should have been much more specific because he came back to her saying the agreement was that she and the child would move back to his Pavilion and be named Semestrongs. It was the 52nd Day of Summer that she was made a Semestrong again and Peora was officially her child. Her heart rose and fell upon this news as she was keen to go back home but not that Peora would still be her charge. She started to question the decision and started with that maybe Peora should possibly be given to Kavid’s family instead and her father only said that it wouldn’t work out. She could tell her father was growing weary of the discussion and it was over and done, she could ask no more questions. She was too much filled with her own grief to even think of her Father grieving as well. Peora only reminded her of the family she had lost and it hurt so much. Her Mother, who somehow knew, reminded her that she wasn’t the only one in mourning and this dear child needed her, she also said she’d help. In Iyone’s mind that meant that she could leave Peora with her mother day in and day out while she and Paxa went on long rides along the outskirts of Endrykas and even venturing further into the Sea of Grass where she’d sometimes hope for an attack of some kind to befall her but that never happened, Paxa always turned back before trouble could find them. At night she’d find those who loved to drink, her friend Jerimih, and would drink the night away with them laughing and singing until she was so drunk that she’d start singing sad songs and return home in the mornings still drunk and fall into bed crying. She hated to be around her siblings because they either tried to cheer her up or tell her she wasn’t the only one mourning. But what she could tell none of them was that they still had their wives and that it cut deep inside of her every time she saw a shared moment between them. She had lost her first love and possibly only true love. This behavior went on for about fifteen days with her rarely paying attention to Peora before her Mother informed her that she needed to step up and take care of the child herself and find a way to become a mother. And that they also were not going to support them financially anymore unless she worked with the horses like she did when she was young. It had been so long since she had worked with any horses, except for Paxa of course, that she had to go back to basics and ended up as a Groomer and Braider to the horses that Moxy was ready to sell or were being taken to Steeds & Yves for Atticus Rin to sell. It kept her mind busy enough that she couldn’t think on the sadness as much. Plus she was learning to care for Peora’s every need and only left her with her Mother when her mother had all of the children for her lessons. At night she would wait for Peora to be asleep and she’d leave to go join Jerimih to drink and sing the night away. She wouldn’t get so drunk that she couldn’t function the next day and she’d be back long before Peora woke. This became routine through the end of Summer and into early Fall. It begun to dwindle down as she and Jerimih started writing songs again and the massive drinking slowed. They’d both go home earlier unless there was a burst of creativity, Citric and Moxy would even join them every few nights now as they used to before this horrible year came. But when Winter came and it was colder than normal their visits out were fewer and Jerimih would come to their Pavilion every few evenings and they’d sing and write for a few hours before they’d go to bed, with Jerimih staying there. It was on the 30th Day of Winter(the day after the huge blizzard hit) that her Father invited Jerimih to move in to the Pavilion. Her Father noticed how these nights of singing and writing not only brought Iyone back but everyone in his family, plus Jerimih had been working for him for many years and Jerimih had long been called the son he hadn’t fathered. And since Jerimih had lost his own family to the Pox he agreed. Her Father had indeed done the right thing again, with all the snow and the Pox death count being so high the music in the Pavilion was indeed helping all of his family’s spirits and being able to speak of those they lost without being horribly sad. Iyone Age 19, Peora Age 3 – Spring Festival & Onward We Go! Spring came and it seemed all of Endrykas had been finally lifted from the horribleness of the last year. The whole city seemed to really take to the Feast of Life more so than before and during these celebrations the Strongs performed all of their new songs, both happy and sad as each had a place in this celebration, remembering the dead, honoring the living and reveling in the new life. It’s a new year and finally life has wonderful possibilities again for Iyone and little Peora. |
