YOU!
I LOVE YOU
AND I LOVE STEVEN ERIKSON.
I know FAR too few Erikson fans out there. None of my friends whom I have recommended the book to have ever actually bothered to read any. A shame, too; his books are my favorite of all time.
Anyway, I'm reading Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves. It is like nothing I've ever read. Everything about it is bizarre and disorienting, from the plot itself (about a man who finds a book that is a research report on a movie that doesn't exist; complicated, I know), the visual layout itself is astounding. It's... I'm not even sure how to describe the entire thing.
Look. I'm a book guy, as I'm sure nearly everyone on this site is. I've read some pretty interesting/odd/weird things. Nothing comes CLOSE to this. This is a book that challenges the reader to be aware, to pay attention, to keep track of multiple things at once (the footnotes often lead you on crazy tangents). I'm going to cut myself off before I ramble. If you're willing to be creeped out and to have your mind f**ked with, read it. It's astounding.
