Three loud knocks echoed through Nilika and Kia's, Nilika's mom, home. Kia shot out of bed. Who would be knocking this early in the morning? She scratched her head as she got of bed. This was not a good time to be whoever was knocking. Kia's face slowly turned red. If they wake up Nilika, there will be pain to pay.

Finally reaching the door, she swung it open and almost collapsed in annoyance. "Did ya' miss me Kia," the voice questioned in arrogance. "Well hello mom," Kia answered in disdain. She really wasn't in the mood to deal with her mom. She walked away and sat on the sofa, "what happened to the key I gave you?" Kia's mom only smiled and blush a little. "Well...you see...I," she took a deep breath, "I lost them." Kia's was a calm woman at heart. She just couldn't take her mom's irresponsible behavior sometimes. "How did you lose them this time," she asked as she walked into the kitchen. There was a whole drawer full of keys just for this situation.

Her mom stayed quiet for a while, "in a bar fight." Kia turned to her mother with wild eyes and snapped, "why the-." Before Kia could finish, Nilika walked in. Her little hands rubbed her eyes. Everyone stayed quiet hoping that the eight year went back to sleep. Their effort was in vain; the little girl stayed in her spot and looked around.

"Grandma N'Fisa!"

The little girl ran towards the other woman. N'Fisa picked up the little one and put her on her lap. "You've grown soooo much," N'Fisa ruffled the girl's hair and sat her back down. The oldest of the women jumped up and turned around with a huge grin. Kia backed up from N'Fisa; that grin was off. "Whatever you are thinking, don't you dare do it," Kia said. N'Fisa only grinned wider. She couldn't help but toy with her only daughter. She wasn't going to do anything. Well not anything to Kia, but still oh well!

N'Fisa grabbed Nilika's hand and dashed through the door, this was plan A. The grandma ran and rand. Poor little Nilika could barely keep up with the other. Back at the house, Kia just stared out the door. She only sighed and closed the door. Why must her mother be weird?

N'fisa stopped when she noticed Kia wasn't following. She leaned down and popped Nilika on the nose. "What was that for," Nilika asked as she covered her nose. Her grandma always had a weird way of showing her affection to another. Nilika looked back from the direction they came from. Her home was a long ways away.

"So where are we going and doing," the child asked. N'Fisa looked down and forgot for a second that Nilika was there with her. "We're already here," the older of the two said, "I'm going to teach you some fighting poses okay." Nilika looked at her grandma with annoyance. It wasn't that she was mad or anything, but right now she really wanted to eat something. Her stomach growled. Nilika held her stomach in a gesture that resembled a pain gesture

"I'm hungry," she commented. N'Fisa rumbled through her backpack for a while. It took awhile before she found what she was looking for. The grandmother pulled out a root. "Here. I picked it up while I was coming over here. I don't really now what it is, but it smells good," N'Fisa smiled. Nilika took the root and looked at it. "It's a Merata root. It's used to help cover up other flavors of things. Mostly medicines though," she said to her grandma. N'Fisa scratched her head and didn't really care, "so can you eat it?" The little girl was already chewing on it. It tasted like mushrooms.

The two continued to walk around. "So how did you know all that stuff anyway," N'Fisa asked Nilika. Nilika only trotted alongside the taller one. "Mommy told me and...," she started to stutter out. Grandma N'Fisa noticed the stuttering first. She didn't like that. It made it seem like that something was wrong with the little girl. "Stop that," she murmured loud enough where only those close to her can hear. The eight year old stopped in her explanation as she heard the other Konti. "What you mean," Nilika stuttered again.

"That! What's wrong with you? You're supposed to talk like this. Don't stumble over your words!"

N'Fisa didn't like that at all. Was something wrong with the kid or something? She looked down at the shaking girl. The little girl's blue eyes shined through the tears that have formed. N'Fisa didn't mean to make the little girl cry. She just wanted her to speak normally. She crouched down in front of the girl and reached her hands out to her.

Nilika didn't go into the older woman's arms. She had hurt her feelings. Nilika knew her stuttering was weird, but her mother didn't care about it. Of all people that she knew, her hero, made fun of her. Her tears started to fall down chubby red cheeks. Nilika started to walk back from the arms that were outreached. Turning quickly, she ran away towards the ocean. Her little ponytails swayed in the wind.

Grandma's Back?

N'Fisa started to freak out. Even if Nilika was a small girl, she knew how to run. N'Fisa was running through the sand when she stopped abruptly right before the ocean. Even though her race came from the sea, she herself wasn't fond of it. She looked around the beach, there were streaks of sunrise peaking over the horizon. An idea went through her head, and with that she ran back towards the direction they came from.

Nilika looked around her; water surrounded her tiny body. She didn’t know how to feel at the moment. She just wanted to get away from everything. The teasing has taken a toll upon her. It could be seen on her. Her eyes didn’t quite sparkly as they use to, her voice was more soft and quiet than usual, and even her steps lost that confident jump in it. She looked up at the surface of the water. The night sky was faintly getting lighter. Nilika swam a little bit deeper into the darkness of ocean.

She liked the dark; it was comforting to the young Konti. One couldn’t be seen in the darkness. The darkness hides what fear you the most from your eyes. It can swallow up anything, even embarrassment. She felt save wrapped up in it all. Her ocean blue eyes started to drop slowly. The little girl was getting tired. Her body wasn’t suited that of exercise. Slowly but surely she started to sleep in the darkness that was the ocean.

Grandma's Back?

Nilika woke up and found that she was no longer in the water but on a plush bed. She whipped her head up and looked around. The sun was shining brightly through the window. Even though she liked the dark, the sun was warm and cheerful like she felt at the moment. She never felt so refreshed in a long time. Hopping off the bed she rushed into the living and saw her grandma sleep on the couch. She was still mad at the woman for her hurting her feelings.

Nilika decided to wait for her mother to wake up. She wasn’t going to wake up the woman. The little Konti shivered from the memory of waking up her mother. It was like seeing your life pass before your eyes, by the sheer anger that radiated off the woman’s body. So she sat on the floor, across from the couch. She started to daydream before a sign of movement was seen. N’Fisa moved to a seating position and saw that Nilika was staring at her.

No matter what, her granddaughter took after her mother. They both had that blank stare that could unnerve someone. She gave a sigh and tried to look the little girl in the eyes, which ended horribly. “I’m sorry for what I said to you,” N’Fisa said as she looked towards the ground. Nilika only tilted her head a little in thought. “So can you forgive me,” the grandma asked hopefully.

Grandma's Back?

Nilika smiled a little at the woman’s hopeful face. It was funny that her grandma was even asking. Of course she would forgive her. It wasn’t like she was going to be mad at N’Fisa for a long time. “I forgive you for now,” Nilika smirked. She got up as she heard her mom get out of bed. Kia rubbed her head as she sat down next to her mom and glared at Nilika.

“You do know you’re in big trouble, right,” Kia sneered. She really was mad at her daughter for running away like that. What would happen if she got hurt or something? Even worse, kidnapped and put into slavery. That was something she really didn’t want to happen. She rather kill Nilika and herself than have them in slavery.

Nilika bowed her head down a little. She knew she was in trouble for doing that, especial that late at night. Tears started to swell up in her eyes as she gripped her pants. N’Fisa jumped up off the couch that moment and walked towards Nilika. Pale slender hands wrapped around the wrist of the 9 year old. “Oh Kia calm down,” N’Fisa pulled Nilika to her feet,“she’s okay. Nothing happened to the little girl.”

The grandma was hatching a plan in her head. Getting a good grip on Nilika’s hand she jogged towards the door went out with a stunned Nilika behind her. Kia only looked on with annoyance and amusement; her mom always did the weirdest things. Now that she thought about it, those two never ate breakfast. Slowly she went into the kitchen to make some. They’ll be back soon, she thought.

N’Fisa continued to walk towards the beach. This time she was going to teach Nilika some fighting moves. That was until she realized that was too advanced for the little girl, so instead was going to teach the little girl fighting pose. They stopped in a sunny spot on the beach. Wind was gently and soothing. N’Fisa let go of Nilika wrist, “remember when I told you we were going to learning fighting moves.” Nilika nodded, her two ponytails bounced. “So now,” N’Fisa stopped as she saw a butterfly go by. Nilika looked up at her grandma, waiting for her to continue.

“Oh yea, I’m going to teach you a pose for now,” she continued after the butterfly went by. The older of the two, squat down and tapped on Nilika’s legs, “your legs should be shoulder width apart. Just a little bit more, there you go.” N’Fisa looked Nilika up and down, “put your right foot back and turn it outward a little.” Nilika did has she was told. “Now bend your legs a little,” N’Fisa instructed. The young Konti looked at her grandmother with confusion. “It helps with quick movement,” N’Fisa stood up and grabbed both of Nilika arms.

“Okay your right hand should be near your face, to protect you,” The older Konti put the girl’s hand near her face, “make sure you make a fist.” Nilika made a fist and waited for more instructions. Bring up the left arm, N’Fisa but it near Nilika’s chin, “Make a fist. That’s good. Now make sure the sides of your fists are showing.” N’Fisa took a step back looked at Nilika. The child was in average fighting position. Nilika was about to speak before she heard her stomach growl and blushed. N’Fisa chuckled and pulled on Nilika’s ponytail teasingly. “Looks like we should go and eat first before continuing.” Nilika nodded in agreement.

Notes :
Quick note, if you're doing a flash back, you post those in the city that the flash back occurs. Also I don't think they have bar fights in Mura. It's not the kind of city for that kind of rough housing. Other than that it was a cute thread!
