[2nd day of fall 513.a.v.]
[Wilderness]
[between Ravok and Nyak]
[Late Evening]
Hypnotizing was not a discipline of magic that was easy to gasp, especially for Amelia who had realized that this would be something she should be practicing on her own. She didn’t mind her alone time, really, the girl actually liked being alone and concentrating on her own world, tasks and thoughts. Somehow, the people she traveled with just distracted her and distractions ended up as annoyances eventually. She could only be grateful that there had been no incidents to trigger a more aggressive and irritated Amelia. But studying magic on her own, that did worry her.
To get some silence, some of her alone time and maybe even practice scratches of her hypnotism, she left the place they were camping out for the time being, resting the horses and their own sore bodies. She toke her dagger and walked deeper into the forest terrain. Amelia was not skilled with weapons, no, she was actually quite unfound of sharp objects that could cause pain and she was awkward with the dagger she owned. Usually holding it more like a kitchen knife, most damage she could cause to someone would be the result of luck and awkwardness of her attacker. But for some reason, having this dagger next to her, always made her feel calmer, and it didn’t have to be special for the task, just sharp.
She walked further in, her ears paying attention to the noise of leaves crunching under her weight as she walked. The noise seemed too loud for her, or the wilds too calm, and she began walking slower, placing her feet a bit more carefully and trying to avoid making any sounds, looking at her feet to not place them on any twigs, or gods forbid, animals. Even this girl had enough common sense to know that there was more than a bunny in the shadows, and she was not the one capable to battle someone more dangerous than a bunny.
Once she was calm with the way she walked and the way she had lowered the amount of sound she gave off, the girl looked back in the direction they were camping. She was still close enough for her screams to be heard clearly, and for her running to be easy, if things get ugly, but she couldn’t hear the casual talk. The perfect place was found. Here she could think, and still be safe, at least she thought so.
The black haired girl sat down on the pile of leaves, they made a pleasant yet at the same time disturbing sound. The dagger was stuck near her, close enough for her to grab if she needed it, but far enough to not distract her. She placed her hands in her lap and closed her eyes With a deep breath she began meditating, or at least what she thought was meditation. She straightened out her back, her shoulders and made sure the breaths she toke in would come in strong, with her mind she followed that, trying her best to ignore the sounds of wind and night birds in the trees. Ignore the thoughts about her travel mates, she would try her best to place herself in silence.
But she failed, every little noise was a distractions, and despite the way she tried to calm herself so much, it was no use. A breath in, a breath out, it was all that. Nothing but breathing exercises, because her mind was so fully there, concentrated on the travel to Zeltiva. It was horrible. She wanted to get back to that city more than anything she had wanted in years, but it was the biggest distraction she had. She didn’t hear the noises around her, she just heard the argument in her mind that went on and on.
After a bell or maybe two of these breathing exercises, when she didn’t have to try and follow the manner of them anymore and for the time being they had become her second nature, she tried to clear her mind again. She realized that she couldn’t clear her mind enough to actually start her own training. It was not enough. Everything distracted her, the pain in her legs for not moving for so long, the noises in the background and the wind. It felt like even the trees talked to her. Half a bell more of this relaxation she considered torture, and still, her mind wasn’t clear. ”stop pretending, you are just not getting this right…ever” she pouted and was about to open her eyes.
When she felt a soft, nuzzling feeling against her fingertips, unusual, but pleasant at the same time. It was rather ticklish and Amelia opened her eyes, only to see a rabbit. In the dark, she couldn’t really tell apart its color, but she had a good guess it was a brown shade. The creature was clearly interested in the girl, and most likely had spent a good amount of time looking and examining the girl before coming up to her. The Cross moved her palm lightly, but the rabbit jerked back, she could hear him sniff the air, see him look her up and down and the palm, all around himself. Or was it her own imagination and the idea that it was, what a rabbit would want to do?
”what in the world are you doing here…” Amelia asked, but she wasn’t really expecting an answer from the creature. She just hopped it would trust her enough to come closer and she could hug him, nuzzle the fluffy thing. Amelia might not look like it, but she actually quite loved animals, especially animals that seemed to be curios, they reminded her of herself.
No response came from the rabbit, but it didn’t go away, and then, it came to Amelia, she might be in better luck than expected. Pulling together the softest and friendliest tone in her voice, knowing well that animals don’t really understand languages, just identify with the tone of speech, she spoke to the creature. ”come little one, come closer” her concentration on the rabbit was high, but not high enough, it seemed like the little fluffy thing didn’t even pick up Amelia’s weak hypnotism. What really was a shame, she hopped that it would be easier to attract an animal as dumb as a rabbit.
”come now, come to me, come closer little one” she repeated and stretched her palm further, closer to the rabbit. For a moment it felt like the hand scared him away, but no. As Amelia repeated her line once more ”come closer” the rabbit came closer. He still didn’t come close enough for Amelia to touch him, but at least he had moved towards the girl, what had been the best she has ever done without the supervision of a teacher.
She didn’t break her contact with the little thing. Her black eyes piercing the black ones of the rabbit, bout reflecting the light of the sky. The rabbit was still moving around, it was coming closer and backing away, sniffing the air. Amelia just couldn’t keep her concentration strong enough to actually keep him as a doll. Then again, she didn’t have the skills to actually do it anyway. ”come closer” she said once more, it looked like the rabbit clicked and was about to bounce up to her lap, maybe even in it…when Amelia got distracted by a noise coming from the direction of their camp. Her eye contact broke with the animal and it ran away into the bushes.
The fortune teller had little to no control over the situation and just sat there helplessly as she watched her object of practice run away into the forest. With a frown she stood up, toke her dagger that didn’t really come handy this time and went back to the camp. Realizing that suggesting to animals isn't as easy as you might expect, and neither is meditation.
