15th Bell
15th Bell
Another new start. That's what they always said rolled in with a brand new year, and on top of the change in season, Kaie had just turned fourteen. It was a whole new beginning for her. She was growing older, getting stronger, smarter, better in every way. She was becoming a proper Myrian woman, putting in more time to worship the Goddess Queen and hone her weapons art. All was in preparation for the next year. Her next birthday when she would meet the Goddess Queen face to face and hope to be accepted. To receive the coveted mark that labeled her as a true Myrian. That next year would hold everything she inspired to be. Just a few more seasons and she'd be a full fledged...
"Like what you see?
Kaie blinked obliviously, snapping from her trance-like state to search for the source of the voice. Amber, blazing eyes suddenly found themselves locked with ones as black and depthless as Dira's Mouth. To say she was completely caught off guard would be a severe understatement. Mentally she was back peddling like a madwoman just to keep any surprise from registering on her face. Thus far she was successful, her mask one of composure. The only crack in her objective expression the raising of a single brow.
"I don't know what you mean. There's not much to see," She replied, taking that moment to appraise the speaker before her. The guy couldn't have been more than three years older than she was. His hair was as black as Akajia's darkest hours, settling down his back, accessorized by a single braid amongst loose strands. His body was thin and toned with lean muscle accumulated from Myrian lifestyle and military training. The amused, toothy smiled spread across his face rather genuinely, framed by a chiseled jaw line. Whoever he was, he didn't seem to be bothered by her quip.
"I saw you watching me at the Training Yards," He countered, grin widening. He took a step closer toward her, eyes glittering darkly. Confidently. He knew exactly what game he was beginning to play with her.
"You must have me confused with someone else."
"This is the third time I've seen you here this week."
"Maybe I just like to see what I'm in for."
"You could've asked."
"I've heard enough. I wanted to see," She shot back in a quick defense, already turning from him to leave. She was three steps into her escape when he called out to her again.
"You're going to just leave without saying goodbye?"
Kaie paused, a smile gracing her features now that her back was turned. He was clever. Oddly forward, but at least this one had personality. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to play along. Just this once...
"You showed up without saying hello," She spun suddenly to face him, arching a brow in mock questioning as if she couldn't believe such rudeness. Much to her surprise, the distance between their voices when he last spoke was crossed quickly, for when she turned he was right there. He was maybe only a few feet from her, staring down at her with those stupid, dazzling black holes for eyes.
"Hello."
Give me a petching break...
