The fight from the day before had been a fairly intense one. Ellen had taken a rather hard blow to her left ribs, and it had left her working even more on her shield techniques. After a blow like that, she would do everything in her power to avoid taking another blow so painful. This couldn't allow her to stop training though, so back to the training grounds she went. It wasn't a bad thing that she had been hurt, it gave her experience, perhaps not in the most favorable of ways though.
While she was training, a familiar voice called out to her. It was the unmistakeable accent of her old childhood friend. They had been pages together around the same time, and spent much of their childhood time together. The adventures they had been on as children had been quite memorable, with Cromley always getting into trouble, and Ellen having to find a way to help him out of it. Many times, Cromley was far more successful than Ellen, and landed both of them some extra chores. It was always worth it though. Cromley and Ellen balanced each other out. Ellen was the level headed, cautious one, while Cromley kept her having fun.
"Hah. Hardly, it was mostly my luck in that fight. You will have to pity me a bit today, my left isn't in the best of conditions." Thinking about the other day made her wince just a bit in memory of the blow to her ribs. It was a good spar, but she easily took the worst of the beating, while her opponent took a few falls. Such is to be expected though, as her partner was much more experienced in fighting than she. Ellen knew Cromley would take it a bit easy on her, and trusted him not to take advantage of her weak side too much. Perhaps she would exploit his kindness herself, earning a few free blows.
As she watched her new opponent and old friend grab a mace and a rather large shield, she began to contemplate her options. The shield would be a problem for both sides of the fight. It was heavy, large, and not the easiest to move, making mobility an issue, though it did cover quite a large area, so Ellen would have to carefully aim her swings. She was still not quite so comfortable with her longsword, though it was a tad easier to use now. She still had trouble swinging the weapon, it's arcs were far too wide for her liking. However, it would only get easier with practice.
Ellen observed her friends stance, preparing to make her moves. She felt a bit more comfortable being aggressive towards Cromley, knowing that it was always a friendly fight, and that neither of the duo would try to cause the other too much pain. The mace would be a problem though, it's blunt blows could most likely knock Ellen off her feet if she didn't play this fight correctly. The overall strategy would be to avoid the mace and find a way around the shield.
Ellen took a few steps forward, and began a flurry of swings. The idea was to tire her opponent with a battering, though with her side, she would most likely tire herself out first. She was watching, making sure to wait for the inevitable mace swing. Trying to dodge it would be her best option, as she probably couldn't stand the full blow of Cromley's mace swing.
