Krahe sneezed with nearly enough force to knock himself over. A bundle of leaves had dropped from their branches and laded on his face, forcing an unpleasant amount of allergens and other leaf particles into his nose that it made his sinuses burn. It came so quickly he was unable to raise a hand to block his mouth, and instead let every living thing in a 50 yard radius know he was there. Which was unfortunate, especially when it meant his prey would now be on the lookout for the source of the sound. He grunted under his breath and clutched the wooden curve of his bow to let out some frustration. Regardless, he continued through the forest in search of his brunch. A simple sneeze was not going to stop him on his mission. He aimed his boots into empty patches of dirt as to avoid crushing the dead leaves that blanketed the ground. His steps alternated from long vaults to tiny baby steps as the available spaces were few and scattered, and to any outside he would look as if he were performing a strange dance with no rhythm or balance. At several points his legs parted so wide that he had to brace his hands against a large rock to keep from tipping over. His embarrassment was greatly outweighed, however, by his growing need for something to eat. He didn't care how ridiculous he looked as long as he was fed. The Kelvic pushed further into the woods with bow in hand, his eyes eventually landing on a small, white-gray rabbit too preoccupied with nibbling on a patch of grass to notice Krahe. Well, this would be the 4th week in a row he would have treated himself to this particular kind of meat, but food was food. And he was not one to miss an opportunity in the vain hopes of a better one down the line. He gripped the ends of one of his arrows and silently pulled it from the quiver as his lungs filled with a deep breath. The bow creaked as the Kelvic pulled back the string with the arrow clenched between his fingers. The wooden curve leaned back at both ends, the crescent slowly closing in on itself as Krahe aimed at the rabbit. Then, he let out both the breath and the arrow, the iron tip glancing the rabbit's shoulder. Damnit. The creature disappeared in a flurry of white fluff and leaves. It raced into the protection of the forest, but the hunter was hot on its heels. The two zipped between trees, bounded over rocks, and scurried through bushes. Before long the pair reached a large clearing, the rabbit having leapt even farther ahead after its predator stumbled on the roots of a large tree. Once he broke through the trees surrounding the clearing he took aim for the rabbit once again, catching only a glimpse of its tail as it slipped through the other side. With a grunt he started to race after it again, but his eyes locked onto a white fluff through the branches. Without hesitation he readied the bow again and aimed for the fluff, only realizing halfway through firing it that it was not in fact a rabbit he had just aimed at. It was a human. With all the gracefulness of a bull on ice, Krahe yanked up the bow and fumbled with the speeding arrow, his finger glancing the back of the shaft just in time for the arrow to change its trajectory and send it skyward. The jerking of his arms threw off his balance and sent him to the ground with an audible THUD, the arrow landing on the bushes next to the stranger's head. "Ghn...! Sorry! Sorry!" He shouted, scrambling up and over to the arrow. "Are you alright? Did I hit you?" |
