Fall 513, Day 33

Tichi paused outside her door to stretch. Daniel was off on a job, and as she wasn’t ready to join him yet, she’d decided to take a day off delivering packages to train. They’d discussed what she needed to work on. Fighting she’d work on another time, since it was rather hard to work on by herself. So today she was going to concentrate on other things.

Speed was critical. If she got into a nasty situation and for some reason Daniel couldn’t help in time, she needed to be able to outrun the danger.

Agility was also critical. Speed and agility would help her with fighting, when she got around to training for that. She wasn’t a large, musclebound warrior, but she was quick and nimble. A fighting style that played to her strengths would be ideal.

Awareness of her surroundings was a weakness that needed to be improved. The incident with the hunter in the woods, on top of an earlier accident with a delivery, had hammered that home. Tichi wanted to be able to scout ahead for Daniel while he was on a job, and she couldn’t do that if she wasn’t properly aware of everything going on around her.

Stealth she’d work on another time. For today, the goal she’d set for herself was simple. Run through the city. Everywhere through the city that she could, empty and crowded locations alike. Never lose her footing and never so much as brush against anyone, and move as fast as she could.

Simple. Not easy.

Tichi took a deep breath, then she was off, speeding her way along…

From her home in the Bittern district, Tichi headed through Winthrop Alley to the Warehouse district, then out to the docks. She was tempted to linger there and enjoy the fresh air, tinged with the scent of the sea, but she ran on. Perhaps when she was finished with her run she'd take a leisurely stroll in the fresh air as a reward.

From the docks, she headed toward Dyers district. The Great Bazaar proved to be challenging to her goal of not touching anyone. People milled around, shopping and talking. Tichi was forced to slow down a bit to keep from running into anyone. She picked up speed again as she exited the area, heading for the Nettle district.

Tichi waved at Hadyn as she passed Sultros Blades, then poured on the speed as she headed into the Roshin district. Unfortunately, by now she was getting a bit overconfident. A shopper at one of the open-air bazaars abruptly stepped into her path, and Tichi windmilled, trying not to slam into the woman. She succeeded, but wound up landing on her rear end. "Oh, petch it," she grumbled before picking herself up and starting off again.

She avoided the Jordan district entirely. Too many knights. Instead, she headed into the Maiden district, navigated it without incident, then headed back into Bittern. She ended where she'd started, in front of her apartment door, panting from the run but feeling exhilarated.

Perhaps she should make running a daily event.
