513 AV, 7th Day of Fall

The entirety of the morning had been slow and dull. Even her brothers seemed to be lethargic, and everyone lounged around the cookfire with their breakfast. There was pleasant conversation, but nothing that could be called interesting. For the youngest boys - the twins - this was out of character. The slow fire crackled under their morning stew. It was a hearty and delicious creation of milk broth, potatoes, and meat. Arundel was on her second bowl the entrance of their pavilion parted and a young man entered. He was dressed in the green of the Emerald Clan, and carried a satchel over his shoulder stuffed full of quail and rabbit. Her father rose to meet him, and they embraced forearms. The rest of the family turned curious eyes on the newcomer, returning his sign of welcome.

"What is it, Anslem?" her father inquired. The newcomer looked frustrated, and he shifted the bag on his shoulder to show its contents, which appeared to be a good haul for a hunter. "My brother was supposed to take these to our uncle this morning, but he's ran off to chase girls again. I have no time to do it because I'm supposed to help our father repair the walls of our pavilion today. A horse tumbled through the north side last night and ripped a large hole in the main room." Javin let out a low whistle. "Everyone alright?" Anslem nodded. "Yes, but I was wondering if you or one of your sons might have the time to take these to my uncle's pavilion at the market? He has a delivery there as well to be taken to a friend of his. I thought one of you might be willing after my father shared that buck with you last season."

Her father was nodding slowly, regarding the bag for a moment. "Yes, I'm sure we can lend you a hand." Relief flooded across the young man's face, and he handed the bag over to their Ankal. He signed a grateful thank you and bowed his head respectfully. "I have to get back home now, father will be waiting. I appreciate the favor." Her father escorted Anslem back to the entrance of their pavilion and pulled back the heavy tent's flap. "No trouble. Now go help your father, and tell him to think nothing of it."

When the young man left, Javin returned to their cook fire and sat back down, placing the bag beside him and continuing on his breakfast. Her mother passed him a thick slice of fresh bread, and he took it gratefully. "Will one of you boys take this bag to the market?" he asked after soaking up some broth with the bread and taking a satisfactory bite. It seemed, though, that they were all going to be busy today. But after excuses were made, the oldest finally relented. "I might be able to find the time between errands, father." Arundel watched without interest, ladeling another spoonful of stew into her mouth. Reed chewed on some fruit between her and her mother, completely oblivious to everything but her breakfast. Her older sister sat on Arundel's other side, but hadn't continued after her first bowl. She claimed to be watching her figure. Horse shyke, Arundel thought.

After her second bowl had been scraped clear, she sat it down and looked at their Ankal. "Why don't I just take it?" Her turned from the eldest to her. "Weren't you going to work with the yearlings today?" She shrugged apologetically. "I'd like to mix things up for once. I'll take the bag for the boy and delivery it to the market, then deal with the other delivery as well." Javin regarded her for only a moment before shrugging as well. "Alright. But this evening I'd like you to tend to the youngsters for a little while." Arundel nodded obediently. "Of course."
