Character Concept

Gala puts on a smile and kind face while feeling little to nothing his insides are dead of true feelings but that of vengeance. Family and loved ones are a sore subject for him and prone to either shut him up or anger him. His curiosity remains high when dealing with Djed and he yearns to learn more.

Character History

Living on the road most of his childhood going between Sylira and Taldera with an elderly man whom later in life he would come to know as his grandfather. In his first memory now mostly a fuze of blurred images he remembers fetching water from streams cleaning up a wagon and other small tasks to make one elderly mans travels more comfortable. Nearing his 8th spring the Elderly man caught Gala by the side of a stream drawing on the back of what he'd later come to know as a scroll. Infuriated the Elderly man tore the paper from Gala's grasp and beat him with a walking cane, mid way into the beating the man stopped instead holding the paper With an amused look in his eyes. He noticed the drawing that Gala had been doing was copying over the the symbols he saw on the front of the scroll symbols used in glyphs. "From this day forward you shall have extra work when your chores are completed." Through the pain all Gala could manage was a weak nod. "Get used to the pain boy for much more awaits you on the road you now travel" with that the Elderly man turned and walked away.

As the months passed and the season changed to spring Gala had been drawing symbols that held no meaning to him other then later nights and less sleep. This is when the Elderly man Came back and gave him a book. This thick book was was bound in a black leather cover with the title "Basics of Djed" in silver writing. "Read this every night for next Spring we start your lessons" Is all the elderly man said.

Summer turned to Fall, Fall to Winter, Winter to Spring, every night Gala practiced drawing the symbols and then read the book. All the while he wondered what the man had in store he'd lived with him traveling on the road back and forth for years and been little more then a slave but this book was giving him secrets a way out of this life style although a dangerous one but a way none the less. Spring came and Gala had read the book enough times to know it by heart when the man came to him on the 56th of spring with a new pair of clothes. "Go wash and wear these. You stink and I will not have that distracting me during your lessons." the Elderly man instructed. Upon returning from his bath Gala found the book was taken and the Elderly man standing before him holding a shimmering scroll in hand. A small black hole opened on the paper and he stuck a pair of tongs into the hole pulling out the largest ruby Gala had ever seen. The Elderly man pocketed it and looked to Gala "Boy your lessons start now" The Elderly man began teaching him that the symbols he had been drawing can be infused with his own Djed, but it would be better to start by drawing them on himself to learn to control it with time the scrolls would come.

Seasons turned to years and soon Gala was turning 13. It was the 57th of spring when the man locked him in a large crate with two water-skins and a pouch of jerked meat. "Do not speak do not think let the loneliness and the darkness become you." The first day Gala could feel the bumps on the road knowing he was in one of the wagons he kicked and screamed to be let free but never was. The second day he plotted he'd kill the Elderly man when he got out of this. The third day he sank into hopelessness crying determined he'd die in here if he wasn't dead already. The fourth day he calmed himself the food was almost gone as was the water, death would come but he would beat the dark and lonely. The fifth no food no water he fought once more to get out his strength fading. The sixth he let it in the darkness the loneliness he came to grasps with it Gala's thoughts were no more he sat in silence even the grumbling of his stomach seemed to be gone. The seventh the crate was opened light streamed in food and a new water skin were given to him. So it began he would sleep in the crate and one of every 4 days he'd spend in it quietly meditating Emptying his mind. The rest of that spring was quiet for Gala he had not spoken sense the ordeal in the crate.

Summer came and the man began a new training. The void an infinite nothingness. Gala was taught how to open holes to this. Gala got told on countless occasion of vile creatures that live in the nothing. The nothing was interesting he was nothing yet here was a nothing that was not nothing but in fact endless possibility. He caught on quickly learning to controle the portals opening larger ones which way to face the pull and even how to move them. Years passed Gala learning all the while.

Shortly after turning 17 Gala was awoken by a scream, the scream dictated a massive amount of pain. The scream continued moments felt like days and he realized it was him that was scream, he could barley feel his body he noticed the Elderly man standing there yet not standing there his arms inside of his chest pulling out something. Something what was that, him the Elderly man was pulling Gala out of Gala confused and lost he lay there allowing himself to be taken out. Well into the night he was above his own body looking down, this is what it is like to be dead the thought that kept repeating in his mind. The Gala was drifting back down slowly very slowly for a moment he thought it was better to be dead this freedom that he felt he'd never known the like. As the morning sun rose Gala's eyes fluttered open to see the Elderly man sitting next to his cot "You live boy" was all he said before walking away. Later Gala found out he'd been asleep for three days this was not the next morning and the Elderly man had stayed by the cot the entire time refusing to let the group move on. The next day it started the Elderly man began teaching him how to open portals without even being next to them. It was possible to detach a part of your self to preform simple tasks.

This training was cut to a sad halt one day. Gala was out at a stream taking a bath when he heard shouts and moans. Hurrying back to the camp he stopped just in view hidding behind a tree it was to late. The camp was covered in arrows and seven men with bows hung on their shoulders were walking threw with daggers in hand cutting the throat of anyone left alive. Horrified Gala crouched unable to move or stop watching he saw the men everyone burned into his mind as they took everything of value and burned the rest. When they had gone and Gala regained the movement of his body he went in to see if anyone was alive. All dead tears built up in his eyes at the sight but then hope came the Elderly man was not here. Gala searched around but saw nothing he soon gave up and began burying the dead. As he was getting ready to leave when he noticed something a small chest that had been missed, upon opening it he found that old book "Basics of Djed" and a letter dated around the time he was taken in by the Elderly man. Opening the letter and reading through it he found it was sent by a woman Laurell asking her father Greath to take care of a young boy her son. It didn't not say where she was or much of anything else useful. Gala had a name for the elderly man now Greath his grandfather and Laurell his mother. He also had images seven men that needed to be nothing. It's been nine years but he still hunts them catching on with wagons traveling the roads.

(To sum it up. Gala was sent to live with his grandfather by his mother. His grandfather made life difficult for him but taught him magic when he found he had an ability for copying magical symbols. Now Gala is looks for his mother and grandfather. Also the men who killed his traveling companions.)
