Richard Roslyn Gender: Male Race: Zith/Human Age: 22 (ages like a human) Birthday: 43 Winter 491 Physical Description Roslyn is the son of a human woman and a Zith man. He has an athletic body, but his fair skin has a grayish tint to it. An angular face, black shoulder length hair, and small mustache give him a cultured air, but his sharp black eyes belie a very severe persona. His most inhuman feature would be his claws, which he keeps under gloves. Like all half-Zith, he has no wings. Psychology Personality Initially he appears to be curt and distanced, but upon closer inspection reveals a deeply passionate and conscientious man. His birth was considered a stain on his family's reputation, and he feels that he must prove himself worthy to people he meets by dressing well, speaking scholarly, and occasionally going to absurd measures to impress. Usually behaving well, he finds he has to remind himself not to be petty or needlessly cruel when upset, which results in a tight-strung demeanor that results in him 'snapping' when he feels cornered, usually with catastrophic results. The fact that he was poor has caused numerous problems for him in his home of Ravok, but he's long ago learned that sulking or lashing out never helps. He has full citizenship, but he fears that he might be made a slave anyways due his mixed blood. He makes a point to worship at the Temples of the Black Sun, not because he subscribes to the beliefs, but because he wishes to avoid trouble with both the god and his organization. Likes Roslyn enjoys his job as a thief, as well as following current events and politics of Ravok. He has a fondness for luxuries such as good clothes, and needs to pay more attention to his budget. Dislikes He has a deep hatred of other Zith, believing that they're no more than animals and ought to be exterminated. He also has a small phobia towards bugs. Ethics Despite his profession, he believes that he is still a morally sound person, and tends to justify his more unscrupulous actions by beliving he'd never have done it if he wasn't hired in the first place. He's not above doubting himself, however. Towards other matters though, he has very strict, black-or-white reasoning. History Pre-Creation Richard is the son of Annette Roslyn, daughter of Maximillion Roslyn, the leader of the Black Hand Gang, most notable for the smuggling of goods for Galatos and extortion among the impoverished sections of Ravok. When Maximillion learned that Annette had become pregnant by a Zith he became infuriated, but when he learned that Annette had been forced upon it changed his rage to shame. As a way to save face, Maximillion distanced himself from his daughter and assigned Hawke the Butcher, an underling of his, to watch over Annette and Richard. Cruel and fond of whiskey, the two were subject to violent beatings; Hawke had a burning hatred for his new position. Hawke continued to work for Maximillion as a disposer of bodies after 'negotiatons' went south. Richard, fed up with his home life, made it as much of a point to stay out of his stepfather's way, rarely returning home and subsisting off of pickpocketing, but always coming back to look after his mother. While on the streets, he kept close ties to a human girl named Ophidia, to a point that Richard would consider her his closest friend. On his twelfth birthday, he had his hands burned with acid, removing his fingerprints like the other members of the gang. When he was fifteen, after Hawke had thrashed the both of them thoroughly after learning that he'd being expelled from the gang for sloppy work, Richard stabbed his stepfather while he was sleeping. At the time he believed it was a rite of passage, but quickly regretted it when neither he nor his mother could find work. Having no income and quickly depleting his savings, he approached his grandfather for a job. Again not wanting to get too close to his bastard son, he gave him Hawke's position, but quickly gained interest in him when other operatives claimed he'd done excellent scoutwork for them. Needing an heir, Maximillion trained Richard in the basics of larceny, where he surpassed all expectations, except one. No matter how hard he tried, Richard was inept at managing other people. He could not delegate power and continuously second-guessed his own plans. Hoping for the best, Maximillion appointed his grandson as head of the gang, gifting him his dagger as a sign of respect. Barely above water while his father was around, after he passed the gang imploded with infighting. After several attempts on his life, Richard dissapeared until a new leader appeared and the feud died out. He started a new life as a freelancer thief with support from Ophidia.
