Timestamp: 20th of Winter 513AV, 11th bell, 30th chime

It was almost midday and Erade slowly made her way to the Communal kitchens. She was helping out in the Enclave for the hunting seminars with a few other of her classmates who weren't rushed off by an Avora for apprenticeship. They had let her go for a quick lunch break which meant no dilly-dallying.
Wind Reach was on famine rations and she only had two tokens which meant she had to choose to skip either breakfast, lunch or dinner. Lately the teen had opted to skip breakfast. Now her stomach was growling in protest of her decision.

"Oh hush up not like I'm up at the 7th bell anyways, so you have nothing to complain about." Erade chastised her stomach and rubbed it slightly as if to will the loud noises away.

Normally she would be up by the 7th bell but since the beginning of the season, the yasi has be racked with a nightmare so sleep has been hard to obtain. If she was always late, it's even more so now. Faint dark spots were beginning to form under eyes from the lack of sleep.

Erade reach the tunnel that connected to the kitchens and a line was already forming. One of Chef Davoid's assistant chefs was barking orders, "Come on ya"ll, I realize you are hungry but pushing, shoving and attempting to cut in line like ya'll are a bunch of yasi wont make this perching line go any faster!"

The Inartans grumbled but hushed up and tried to be patient in line. A few managed it but most still were antsy and looked to be walking time bombs set to explode at any moment. Erade found herself behind one such Inartan and made a small space between her and him. By the looks of his clothes he was Endal status and was none to happy to be surrounded by caste beneath him.

The line began to move as it became the 12th bell but was still a slow progress because the chefs had to collect the ration tokens from each person then make sure they got their allotted food. The Endal before her was starting to complain and the teen wasn't sure how much longer the man's thin line of patience was going to hold.

She got her answer a few chimes later when a dek was trying to get pass the line to bring some supplies into the kitchen. She was hurrying so that she accidentally clipped the Endal in passing. The Endal however took it as an insult and that the dek was trying to cut in line not seeing that her hands were full and she was working.

"What the petch you filthy dek! Cant watch where you are going?! No damn dek is going to cut in front of me and eat before me. I'm an Endal and most of this god damn food was probably from one of my many hunts. I dont deserve to be treated this way!" The Endal was shouting by the time he was done. Most people in the line cranes their neck to see what all the commotion was about and why the line had stopped moving.

The clumsy dek tried to apologize and make herself small in hopes the enraged man would cease to notice her but no such luck came to her. The Endal proceeded to knock her over and kick her over and over. Erade was no fighter with her lanky build but she couldn't stand by as the man beat the poor girl to a bloody pulp and/or kill her.

Rushing over to the man and dek, the yasi tried to pull him away but he was just too angry and heavy to even budge. So she tried kicking him in the back of the leg instead, it probably didnt do much damage other than a slight bruise but it did definitely get his attention. All the fury that had been directed at the dek just moments before was now all towards Erade.

Erade gulped now that she had a full look at the Endal. He was big and perfectly tone over every inch of his body, clearly a War Hawk. A sneer was plastered across his face and his anger no further lessened. He was seeing red and all words and thought of rationality was out the window when the yasi had kicked him.

He lunged at Erade but somehow she managed to escape his grasp and ducked under his reach. She was now standing beside the dek who was still laying on the ground, eyes full of terror. The teen had to make a quick decision and she had very limited options. She couldn't openly assault the Endal any further otherwise she faced some serious charges against her besides she stood little chance of surviving an one on one duel with him.

The Endal seemed to be momentarily displaced by Erade's quick dodge and the yasi took those precious moments to flee. Grabbing the hand of the dek, she practically dragged her up off the floor and on to her feet. In a quick burst of speed fueled by adrenaline, Erade rushed for the kitchens, towing the poor dek girl behind her. People yelled and protested at the yasi pushing and shoving pass them. The chefs were even more angry at all the disruption and was again trying to calm people down so a mob didnt form. They paid little attention to the two girls rushing into the kitchen for refuge.

The Endal took pursuit and on one than one occasion he almost caught them but the angry, hungry citizens still in line were none to happy at being shoved at again. He managed to get past the angry mob but was stopped by the chefs before he too could enter the kitchens. The assistant chef once again barking, "Get this here fool out of my sight, he can eat come the dinner hour!"

Erade lead the dek around the corner to were the pots and pans were stored. It wasn't the greatest hiding spot in the world but it would do for now for them both to catch their breath. Silence grew between them and the dek started trembling next to the yasi. Peeking around the corner, Erade assessed the situation. The chef managed to get everyone back under control and most of them in and out in a hurried fashion.

"Wait right here ok? I will be right back." the teen whispered and waited for the girl to nod her head.

Checking around one last time to make sure it was clear, Erade popped up and briskly made her way back to the now short line. Since no one stopped her, she assumed she went unnoticed yet again. When it was her turn to exchange her token, the Assistant chef gave her a look of "I know it was you" but made no mention of it out loud but handed her tray of food.

It wasn't the most yummy looking meal, containing a plain pasta, a weak vegetable soup with potatoes and peas, a slice of bread and a small cookie. However after that little action not too long ago, it looked like ambrosia to her and ever loud growling stomach. Erade hurried back to the dek and her hiding spot and was relieve that she was still there.

The girl was still trembling in the corner. Her knees were pulled to her chest and arms wrapped around them. The dek's head popped up at the sound of Erade's arrival. Her initial response was that of terror, probably thought Chef Davoid had caught her. The yasi didn't blame her the Head Chef could definitely be a scary woman. The girl's features soften but still held a sense of wariness about her.

"I brought some food figured you are pretty hungry as I am if not more. Besides I bet this is alot better than what they are feeding you." Erade said with a slight smile on her face while she produced two spoons.

The girl didnt say anything but her eyes seemed to say it all. She was quite hungry and the food on the tray was like a gourmet meal. She quickly took the other spoon and took the soup as her own. Erade watched as the dek practically inhaled the soup and grabbed the roll to get the last bits from the bowl that she couldn't sip or spoon up. She sure knows how to put her food away..

Erade started eating the pasta before the girl could attack it as well. She didn't woof the food down as quickly as the dek but could have gave her a run for her money. The pasta was bland but it served its purpose and stopped the growling and protesting of her stomach at least until dinner time in a few bells. All that was left was the small cookie and the dek was eyeballing it hungrily. Splitting it in half, Erade handed the girl the other half. The yasi was expecting her to devour it as well but she surprised the teen by instead nibbling on it in attempts to preserve the rare treat.

A silence once again fell over them but it wasn't awkward or full of tension. Instead a sense of compadre grew between the two girls. Erade normally a girl full of noise and questions, actually enjoyed the silence.

Now that the food was done it was probably best that they both get back to their jobs. The dek was liable to get in more trouble than Erade. She stood up and lingered before the thin girl before her. The teen was unsure what to say to her, maybe a quick introduction then goodbye? Erade never got a chance because the dek spoke up.

"Thank.. you." She whispered. Her voice cracked from lack of use but a very small smile of gratitude was upon her face before she quickly hugged Erade and rushed off further in the kitchen.

Erade wasn't shocked at the girl's words but they did make her feel warm and bubbly. She was however shocked about from the hug, the yasi wasn't expecting it, perhaps making it all the more slightly special to Erade. She never did get the girl's name but maybe it didnt matter.
