Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Day 6, Season Winter, 513 AV

Rinya always avoided the beach in winter. It depressed her that whatever water she could reach was much too cold to dive into, much less if she did then her feathers would likely freeze the moment she pulled herself out. Winter itself made fishing impossible whether from the river or the ocean and that was just part of who she was. So she avoided the reminders of winter the best she could—until now. There was no reason to make herself completely miserable over her own choices, though she doubted she would ever be entirely happy over winter.

But she did have to admit that wintertime could be very beautiful—when she wasn’t freezing that is. Her new dark grey cloak wrapped around her kept her plenty warm with the real fur lined on the inside. She even chose to keep the hood down and her hair loose around her instead of tying it back away from her face. The light breeze tugged at the strands and reminded her of her feathers. It wasn’t terribly cold, but her bird form wasn’t made for cold weather either. Her feathers were made to repel water, not the cold.

She had mustered herself up for a walk however and she found herself in the very spot she tended to avoid. The beach itself was covered very lightly in snow, but for the most part was spotless—and very well empty. By the looks of it she was alone on the beach, a complete opposite of summer. In some ways Rinya kind of preferred it this way. The quiet—despite the cold and ice—made for a very serene place. Somewhere to unwind and just relax… not that her life had recently been very stressful with the Thespians finally leaving to continue their journey south. Most of her problems—well one major one—faded with the traveling troupe.

Rinya rather enjoyed the peace and quiet; not having to worry if the harpy was going to follow her around trying to ruin what life she had built for herself here. Not even winter could ruin that relief. With a soft sigh, Rinya stepped up to a large boulder before hiking herself up onto it with her arms. She settled herself into a sitting position, leggings dangling so she could swing them back and for. Rinya could hear the waterfall off in the distance, and with the sea sprawled before her, she grinned a little. Very comfortable indeed.

A Beachy Wonderland (Juriya)

Postby Juriya on December 18th, 2013, 4:31 pm

It was a lovely winter day, there was a cold in the air that caused most to either bundle up or just stay inside, and Juriya was hoping for the latter. This was the perfect weather for her to throw her cares to the wind and take her other form. The Kelvic was so excited about shedding her clothing and this form for her other one. It had been too long since she felt the wind ruffle her fur, or had the chance to really run. The quick job she made from her condo to the beach took less time than it would have walking, but even at a jog, she felt it took too long.

Once she reached the beach she only did a quick look around, she had failed to really look and notice a girl a slight ways off who was climbing onto a boulder, the rock partially hindering the eager Kelvic from spotting her during the rushed glance. Usually she was much more careful, but she was just too excited to really focus on anything but shedding these clothes and transforming. With a flourish Juriya shed her cloak, laying it out on the sand close to some rocks she intended on hiding the clothing with. Soon after she was pulling her shirt over her head and kicking her boots off her feet, once that wobbly task had been accomplished it came time for the pants and undergarments, which she removed as quick as she could. Once naked she hastily folded all her clothing and then folded the cloak around it all, the little parcel of clothing was then tucked behind a rock.

Once the mater of her clothing was taken care of Juriya took a deep breath and exhaled happily. In the blink of an eye her form was no longer human, but that of a wolf. A lupine grin crossed the Kelvics maw as she shook out her fur then stretched out her limbs, opening her muzzle in a yawn before she righted herself and glanced around, ears perked and listening. She supposed now it did not matter, she had been careful, hadn't she? Well, if someone had come across her right before she had become a wolf, it could no longer be helped. She was just going to enjoy her run and try to let the cool air on her fur relax her.

Rinya’s eyes were glued to the ocean, almost as if she was in a daze. It was only a stronger guest of wind that finally caused her to blink and shake her head slightly. It had been far too long since she just sat and thought of nothing. Usually there was always something to worry about, whether it was her own feelings or the interruption of people unwelcome. But as her eyes readjusted and scanned the beach itself, Rinya perked slightly at the sight of a young woman. She was a distance away, but her eyesight was sharp in the daylight, the woman may as well have been standing directly next to her.

Immediately Rinya noticed something… different about the girl. For one—she was shedding her cloak. Which to her was probably just insane seeing as it was cold, not frigid perhaps, but it was certainly noticeable. But the cold didn’t seem to actually affect the girl much and Rinya couldn’t help but raise a brow. The cloak wasn’t the only thing to be removed either. She went about removing the rest of her clothing rather quickly, packing them up and hiding them. By this point Rinya recognized the movements. It was something she used to do quite often.

Hopping off the rock and resettling her cloak around her, Rinya started to make her way towards the girl. She hadn’t even made it a few steps towards her before there was there was a bright flash and sparkling smoke that confirmed Rinya’s suspicion. The girl was a Kelvic, and as the breeze cleared the wave of smoke Rinya stopped just short of herself. A wolf Kelvic… it had been quite some time since she had last seen one—somewhere within the time span of a year. She had actually lost count since her arrival in Riverfall.

Taking a deep breath she continued to approach the wolf. Her fur was beautiful, a swirling mass of many colors that twisted into themselves into a natural camouflage. Rinya knew well the senses that wolves had, it was likely the girl was going to notice her before she even reached her side, but in some ways the wolf had a natural pull to her. Cocking her head to the side—in what Rhys said was very birdlike—Rinya smirked slightly. "Well it’s been awhile since I’ve run into a Kelvic on the beach." Rinya mused, full well knowing the wolf could hear her.

The last time she had met another Kelvic on the beach, it was a raven. Oddly enough Rinya hit it off well with Dust immediately, but she supposed living in Riverfall most of the Kelvics probably would get along, considering their status. Her hands came up to rest on her hips, her bright yellow gold eyes watching the wolf keenly. Just because they were both Kelvic didn’t always mean they got along. "Hiding out from the Akalak?" Rinya knew well enough that physically she couldn’t answer her in this form, but she was used to body language. Hopefully the wolf wouldn’t take her blunt question the wrong way.

A Beachy Wonderland (Juriya)

Postby Juriya on December 18th, 2013, 7:53 pm

Juriya had been just about to crouch down and then pounce forward to blast through the sand when she felt her ears perk and a sound hit her, footsteps, followed by a greeting. A swirl of emotions raged in the Kelvics mind, should she try to run away? No, her clothes, her -only- clothes were here on the beach, and likely this girl had seen where they went. No, it was better to just stay, for now. Perhaps this girl was just curious, or if Juriya was luck, was another Kelvic.

The girls own amber eyes moved to the other girls, catching her unusually golden eye tone and becoming more suspicious she too was a Kelvic. Well, this made things a little better, she supposed. Kelvics got along, right? This one would not try to do anything stupid. Juriya remained still, relaxing her form and trying not to let her loner instincts get the better of her.

At the mention of the Akalak Juriya snorted and flicked her tail to the side. She was hiding, but not from just the Akalak, more or less from everyone. Assuming this girl was also a Kelvic Juriya did her best to try and communicate through body language. It was like a second nature to her, as it would be to any Kelvic, though she knew there may be 'lost in translation' bits from animal to animal.

The wolf turned her gaze back to the girl before hers, her ears were perked forward and her form relaxed, but there was a curious look in her eyes. The obviously did not seem too terribly upset at this brunette asking questions, in fact, it was almost like a relief to have someone who knew, who perhaps was older and would be a friend-- someone who could help explain things to her. Guldi had been a wonderful grandmother and had raised her well, but there had been so much she had never explained, though, a year is a short time to be able to teach someone everything they need to know about themselves and others like them, or even others not like them.

Juriya dipped her nose a moment to eyes Rinya's attire then snapped her gaze back up and tilted her head as well, she was curious if this girl too was a Kelvic, or maybe someone who knew about them-- obvious she did know about Kelvics, it seemed everyone did, but she seemed so calm and confident in approaching Juriya she had the feeling this other woman was the same.

The wolf seemed to hesitate and Rinya hummed slightly. Honestly she had expected the wolf to take off startled—especially since she was Kelvic. In the actual city Rinya had yet to meet another Kelvic. Dust visited often, but she stayed at the Sanctuary just outside of the city. Oddly enough one of the safest places a Kelvic could go without fear of being looked down upon. Though she still had yet to see it herself—Jorin apparently had gone though. In the back of her mind she wondered if perhaps winter was a good time to visit…

The wolf snorted however when she questioned if she was hiding out from the Akalak. Rinya couldn’t help the grin that spread across her face. It wasn’t entirely an answer easily picked up, but she got the idea in the very least. Clearing her throat, Rinya slowly lowered herself to the sand beneath her, leaning back on her knees. The ground was a little cold, but she could manage. "My name is Rinya." As an afterthought she cocked her head back to the side. "Osprey Kelvic… sometimes better known as a fisher hawk." Rinya confirmed the girl’s suspicions about her being a Kelvic as well. There was no point in hiding that, for most her eyes gave it away anyways.

"I’d show you, but uhh… my feathers don’t do nearly as well as your lovely coat does. Technically I should have migrated but…" Rinya simply shrugged. If the wolf was likely to stick around then it was likely she would see her bird form eventually. As for her migrating, well that was kind of a given. It would have taken quite some time and Jorin himself just wasn’t capable of that kind of travel. He needed Mizas, which required a job. It was just simply a choice—an obvious one.

Though the wolf wasn’t likely to know that, so Rinya instead glanced around the beach before looking back at the girl. "Alone? I thought most wolves traveled in packs?" Save for her father, but he wasn’t… normal to begin with. That was still a hard enough issue for her to think about—especially since she had no idea where her father was. The only other wolves she had ever met were so tightly glued together—even in human form—that seeing a lone wolf out on the beach seemed a little… unusual. How the wolf was going to answer that question well… Rinya shifted herself so she was no longer sitting on her knees, but so she could shift her legs off to one side of her, glancing back out the at the ocean. She really did miss fishing already.

A Beachy Wonderland (Juriya)

Postby Juriya on December 23rd, 2013, 8:37 pm

The wolf watched he woman as she introduced herself, bowing her head in recognition as Rinya told her she was a Kelvic too, an Osprey, Fisher Hawk. Her ears perked forward in curiosity. She had seen hawks and falcons and eagles enough, but she had never taken the time to learn which ones were called which. She mentally noted to ask Rinya to show her what it looked like, once it was warmer.

Juriya was indeed quite curious about Rinya now, knowing she was a Kelvic too. She had known there were others in the city, but she hadn't really met any, none that introduced themselves as such anyways. Though, none of them had come across her shifting either, she was sure that made it a lot easier to admit being a Kelvic to a stranger-- knowing they too were a Kelvic.

At the mention of migrating made her ears swivel and perk again, her head tilting curiously. But she became distracted by the question of her being alone. Slowly Juriya looked around, her eyes peering about the empty beach. She'd never had a pack. Sure she'd met true wolves in the wilds, but, they were not exactly accepting of her. Not that that bothered her, she was a wolf, but she was also human. She figured her pack was out there, somewhere, but probably not in wolf form.

It was about then that Juriya realized conversing with her voice would be much easier so with a huff she shifted, the bright flash followed by glittering smoke. As the smoke eased from her form she lifted a hand to her hair and shook it out a bit, the ringlets bouncing about her shoulders as she made a face and wipes sand from her nose. The fact she was nude did not seem to bother her, but she reached from her stashed clothing anyways, it was cold afterall. As she began pulling her clothing back on she spoke, "I'm Juriya, Brown Wolf Kelvic, as you've seen. And, I figured we could talk a little easier this way." She explained as she finished tying her pants draw strings together.

"As for my pack, I do not have one. I've only ever known one other Kelvic, my grandmother, and she was... she was a rat, not a wolf." Juriya said before clearing her throat, the memories of Guldi still a little tender even though she'd been gone for a while now. "But yeah, I'm alone. What about you... do you have a... flock?" She asked, not knowing much about Hawks truthfully. She normally hunted rabbits or squirrels, not so much birds.
