17th Winter 513 AV
Early Evening

It was within this strange, dull lit building, nestled between the warehouses with the cold sea breeze barely brushing it, that Sami found herself. Hairs rose, agitation pressing against her mind, the bright distinctive red almost glowing in the light of the Spinning Coin - not that she knew this was the name of this place at the time. Beneath the scent of rot and salt, was that of alcohol - pungent and ensnaring the senses. She felt the knock of a broader man as he pushed past, her feet forced into scuttling forward and in.

Heat caressed her cheeks, but the rest of her remained under the wraps of her cloak - short sword included. Eyes gave a dart about, nervous almost to this alien environment before her. Cards were dealt and exchanged, the rattle of dice as they were thrown across the table. But, she did not turn and leave, for all the people that were about none turned away from their small little groups. The Inarta gave a blink, a moment of perplexity hitting her before slowly she relaxed to the notion. People may have been present, and there may have been numerous faces of others, but she was not about to be bothered by them or taken into immediate consideration - something the girl preferred immediately. Adults pestering her and asking questions was such a nuisance.

Dipping in she gave a turn round, eyes looking to the mats where men were wrestling for coin, and then deeper in still. Eyes widened as she looked up to the massive stage, eyes catching the glowing light of the swinging cage that hovered overhead. What an unusual den of gambling and vice, of people too concerned with their own on goings to take other things into consideration. Perfect in serving as a point of get away from the world. If she was allowed to stay that was. She did not mention anything to the barkeep, instead she favored sticking to silence on the off chance something might be said. Pushing her hands into her pockets she continued to look up to the empty stage, her head cocked in wonder as to what exactly it may have been used for.

[Spinning Coin] Pair of Teens

Postby Trevelt on December 21st, 2013, 7:45 pm

Trevelt had taken up his usual position in this hive of scum. Alone in one of the corners tucked away from the other patrons as he looked about the surroundings. Sizing up those around him and trying to catch pieces of their conversations, or at least that was what he had been doing. He had just began to delve into a very interesting conversation being held at the table next to him ,in which a group of men were betting on the roll of a dice, until he saw the young girl whom had just entered.

She was clearly an Inarta, and clearly not from around here, her perplexed gaze at the majority of the festivities around her giving her away as a newcomer. Trevelt stood up and quickly began to approach her as he noticed a gambler doing the same out of the corner of his eye, his pace quickening as he just barely made it there before the man who upon the sight of the boy quickly left. "Now what would someone like you being doing in here," he questioned as he sized the girl up, quickly deciding not to mess with her even if it appeared she was younger than himself.

"If you'd follow me I can explain some of the proceedings around you, and also hopefully steer you away from a few of the less "friendly" spots," his mouth curving in a smile after he spoke, hoping to will her with kindness to follow him away from where she stood right before the stage, hoping she wouldn't get pulled into one of the tables around them, or approached by one of the less ethical patrons of the not so fine establishment.

He pulled his hand nervously through the front of his hair as he looked about the room quickly. "Good," he whispered before turning back to the girl. None of the other gamblers had paid any attention to the girl except for that one, this meant that he himself had barely been paid mind to aswell. He liked it that way.

Eyes remained fixed upon the stage, lost in thought if not for a while longer before an approach was made. There was a pull back, her brow forming a steady line as she eyed the obviously taller boy up and down. For a moment there was little more than silence, her eyes darting round to look back to the retreating of steps of another. Shoulders rose, her lips pursing into a line as the boy continued to size her up. And then, the Inarta promptly put her foot down, "Doing here? My own business."

Sami gave him a burning look, rising up only briefly on her toes before promptly easing back down from them. There was a huff to his smile, her arms folding as he made his offer to share information - least that was the gist she got from it. Brow creasing she gave a look to the surrounding tables, the occasional glance only received from others as they continued their bets. Even she could not help but begin the feeling of nervousness creep into her veins and the nagging sensation that something was indeed amiss - or that she was indeed ignorant of her present location.

Fortunately she did not take much more persuading when she felt something lightly brush against her side. Quick steps led her after him, arms snapped down, the tint of red having weaved its way across her cheeks. Following him back to his quiet corner, she took in a deep breath to compose herself - she was not about to let a stranger get the better of her, not yet at least. Clearing her throat the Inarta firmly placed her hands down on the table surface, her eyes staring intently into his. Nostrils flared, her chin rising the foreign accent more than apparent, "So. You want words boy? Speak. Tell." there was a gesture to the room about her as if it was her question, "You look will to share, so share," there was a pause, a heavy sigh escaping her lips, "Please."

There was only a quick glance around at the room behind her, the hunched shoulders and sheltered faces greeting her, "What they do here?"

Trevelt began to speak but quickly stopped, his eyes getting caught on the girls eyes but for a moment. Quickly he shifted himself his hand being placed beneath his chin as he stared off at a nearby table his face becoming slightly reddened. "This place is called the Spinning Coin," he said as he calmed his nerves and turned back to her. "Its probably the "finest" gambling establishment in Syliras but it isn't always the most peaceful or kind place," he said shifting his eyes to look at the cage.

"That is for a death match of sorts, people are willing to bet on a lot of things," he muttered his voice becoming thick with contempt as he looked about the tables, seeing many familiar and new faces from his visits. He turned to the girl and realized that he had not yet properly introduced himself. "Pardon my rudeness, my name is Trevelt," he said as he gave a slight smile. "What might your name be," he questioned his eyes wandering to look over at the table of which he had been listening to earlier, now quiet.

Pity, he may have been able to get something useful out of that one, no matter. He turned back to the girl and awaited an answer.

Sami held it for a moment, and then eased herself down into the chair opposite. There was no use standing around if she was going to be spoken at after all. Hands lifting from the table she planted them on her knees, the folds of the cloak hitching up around her. Lips parted into a wicked smirk, a element of mischief rising up to meet her. Not that she chose to pursue it straight away - the opportunity would make itself available in good time. Besides, it was rude to interrupt the boy as he explained the establishment. Head turning and looking around, she gave a frown to the name and description. Or more so at her attempts to translate it in her mind. She gave a scratch at her jaw, "Gambling? Wow, Tin men let thing like this go on? Surprised."

Lips twisted into a grimace and then eased off. The Knights certainly seemed to run a tight ship in the city, that much was quickly becoming apparent - which is no doubt why such an establishment surprised her in the first place. And then he mentioned the cage. Expression fell, turning firstly from confusion, to wonder, and finally a distinct look of sombre. For a long few chimes she was silent, eyes lowering as she thought back to the start of the year. Cages, they always seemed to be filled with some form of death for the pleasure of others.

"Tre-velt," Sami tested the name, her tongue clicking at the 'v'. There was a firm nod of approval, her arms folding as she returned her blue gaze, "My name? Sa-mi. You understand?" There was a moment of pointing, judging almost at the boy and his ability, "So why little man like you here in place like this? You do not look like gambling sort. Plus," she tapped her chin and then her cheek as if gesturing to something that was absent, "You not look old either to be here for other reasons." There was a brief nosy look towards another table and the contents of some liquid the gamblers had held close to their hands, "People here seem to drink lots of not water. Or is it just here?"

Her head snapped back to Trevelt, "You not here with anyone? Alone?"

Trevelt saw the clear displeasure during his talk of the cage and its use. He smiled at the girls testing of his name, his eyes wandering every few moments as he listened to her, flitting vision from table to table. Sami was it, a nice name he guessed, but why was she here in Syliras, she clearly wasn't a native from her less than stellar common speech.

"I come here to collect information," he said his voice falling into a whisper as he wished for those nearby to not hear. "To be honest I can't stand gambling, too much risk involved," he said as he once again pulled his hand through the front section of his hair, turning his head as Sami asked more questions, this time his view focusing on one sole table the table at which the man from earlier sat.

"Plenty of places around her have that to drink," he absently answered as he narrowed his eyes, the man seemed occupied with something involving the other men at the table but his eyes would wander towards the table every once in a while. Maybe this wasn't the best of places to hold this conversation. He couldn't tell whether the mans intentions truly involved them or not, but he didn't like to take a risk like that.

"I'm always here alone," he said a distant note of longing edging his voice. "This may be sudden but I think it may be a little easier to have this conversation somewhere other than here, anywhere to be honest," his voice calm and not forceful, it was simply a suggestion, whether she went along with it or not was up to Sami herself.

There was a knit of brow, her finger tip tracing a circle on the table top whilst the boy maintained a look of distraction and a form of disinterest to her questions. Then again he was here to 'collect information', whatever that entailed. It seemed like an extremely odd past time for a child, surely he should be out somewhere practicing some trade or art - to use it as a useful skill to aid the community and better the people of the city. He did seem about the age of a Yasi after all, so unless the same system as at home was not implemented here. The Inarta released a sigh, her brow creasing - no, this was not home and she should try and focus on getting such ideas out of her head.

Her eyebrow did however rise to his comment of being alone. Blue eyes scrutinizing him, Sami took only a moment of silence before finally removing her frosty gaze. It was perhaps for her own safety that she did not pursue questions on that subject - it was a sore sting for her as well, not that she was going to actively announce that. Taking a stand, the girl forcefully held out a hand in gesture to Trevelt, "Let us move then if you think this place is bad."

Pivoting round on her heel, she gave a hard look to the gamblers watching their weight shift almost uncomfortably in the chairs, the patter and rattle of dice as they continued their games. Surely the pair of them were not disturbing them too much? Still, that tone did lead her to question otherwise. Inclining her head she gave a point to the door, defining her direction of travel be it with or without him. Broad, definite steps lead her between the tables, cloak brushing past others with the gentle chink of noise escaping from her folds. There was no pause in her gait, no stopping of movement as she pressed on through, the piercing blue staring and watching.

Of course, once she did finally weave her way through the patrons and tables, her heavy foot fall marking her step - she looked back to him, and cocked a thumb to it, "You lead. This place is just big maze to me. Too many twists and no sense." Only for a while was she going to play along to his gentle suggestions and requests - sure, he may have only been a child like her but even she knew how quickly temperaments could turn.

Trevelt felt the piercing gaze of the girl as he spoke of being alone. Thankfully leaving it at that and not digging deeper into the subject. The gesture surprised him for a moment until he realized she was going along with his idea. Good, he thought as he stood up and followed close behind her. Trevelt's eyes looked over the patrons and newcomers with equal disdain as they approached the exit.

He could hear something, a faint noise from the direction of the girl, could it be?He pushed that thought to the side as he was given the lead by Sami. Somewhere nicer than this somewhere with less violence he thought as his mind wandered through the locations of the city. The Temple of All Gods, no violence, no beer, no gambling, perfect. His feet began to carry him towards the location as he raised his hand in a gesture of follow.

There was some time before they reached the temple so why not have a little conversation Trevelt thought before turning his head toward Sami. "So what brings you to Syliras," he asked before turning his head back to look at what was ahead of him. As he waited he pondered the noise from inside the Coin.

Syliras was a maze alright, a stone tunnel of twist and turns - designed no doubt to confuse those who visited and took refuge within its walls. But there was no warmth from this cold rock, no spark of fire or deep burning from its bowels. It was cold and dead. Shoulders gave a roll, a huff as she followed the taller lad, though to where was beyond her. So, focusing on her march she ploughed forward with the gentle chink in tow. Attentively she looked up to Trevelt when he questioned her, a momentary delayed pause as she properly linked the word 'Syliras' to those associated with the other names of the city and then answered him.

"Stupid Sailors," she gave a disapproving snort, her arms folding beneath the folds of her cloak, "Very stupid Sailors. Like rock." With a huff she continued her stride, a firm forward stare of determination as she walked. Her temper was already set to seethe at the memory. Her cheeks gave a puff, eyes staring angrily ahead. Cheep and lousy, the lot of them. There was only the mutter of curses under her breath in Nari, a hissing spit between her lips before her head tilted its way back up to Trevelt.

"What? Why ask boy?" there was a scrutinizing look, a lean up onto her toes to bring herself as close as possible to being nose to nose with him. She held it, the attempted aura of 'I'm big and powerful' being forced by this rather diminutive girl, cheeks puffed a tint of red growing before finally she pulled away. "What to you? Nosy," and without a pause she continued onto her next round of questioning, "Where we go? You better not lead into trap." She gave a mocking raise of fists, her expression turning serious, "I fight hard in trap. So just try it."

Trevelt kept his feet moving and his eyes straight as he listened to the girl. She clearly had a deep dislike of Sailors, for some reason or another. This he may have to inquire about later on. After her answer she still held a angrily determined stare ahead as she muttered something Trevelt couldn't begin to understand.

"I ask simply to keep this from getting stale," he said as he inclined his head to look at Sami. His lips bending into a light smile. She displayed confidence and a belief in her power he hadn't seen in many, she could be quite valuable in the future, he thought as his smile deepened with a malicious intent for a but a moment before he caught himself. Quickly lightening it and turning forward again. "It interests me that you are here of all places, especially alone," he said thinking back to the fact that he was here alone as well.

"No traps," he said as he raised his hands in a motion of innocence. That confidence was showing through again. She clearly had some combat experience, he could see that from both the manner she held herself in and the condition of her body. His pace slowed as they reached the final stretch before reaching his intended destination. The temple itself stood not but a few lengths ahead. He had only been there a few times before but it still held up now in its appearance.

He stopped now. He had pushed the noise to the back of his head this far, but maybe now was a good time to ask. "Pardon me for asking but what might that noise be that follows you," he inquired as he turned to the girl. His eyes questioning her as he sized her up once again.
