Birthplace: Lhavit
Employment: Reimancer - 7 kina/day
Gnosis: Illusionism, the first mark of Ionu

Theme Tune

Appearance:
Luna is a petite 5'4", slim and fairly pale with naturally red hair, freckles and green eyes. She often dyes her hair, however, is a big fan of cosmetics and changes outfit so many times per day it's often hard to keep track.

Concept & Personality:
A hardcore party girl at heart, Luna absolutely adores being around people (and being the centre of attention). She has a fun, lively personality, a deep thirst for life and a great sense of humour. She will go so far as to stir up trouble or get up to some small mischief just to stave off boredom, and often likes to spice up her evenings with a mind-altering substance or two. Luna is also extremely vain, and changes her appearance frequently. Some days her hair will be deep red, another day a vibrant blue and yet another day sunburst blonde. Blessed by the god Ionu with the power of Illusionism, Luna occasionally uses this power as a replacement for cosmetics (particularly when she's feeling lazy or wants to achieve an effect that would be difficult with traditional methods).

Because she is so beautiful boys (and men) will often throw themselves at her and as a result she has become quite immune to flattery, though she will take note when someone observes and compliments something other than just her looks. Luna is not above using the power she has over men to profit in some way, though she remains chaste and would never stoop to the point of using sex. She has also been known to occasionally steal small items (or money from her parents) if she lacks the funds for something she wants, though she has never ventured beyond petty theft. She will also lie without a second thought to keep herself out of trouble, though many people are extremely forgiving anyway when it comes to the "little angel" Luna, especially her father who dotes on her in the extreme.

Despite all of her apparent flaws, Luna has a gentle heart and is actually quite insecure and lonely deep down though she would never let on. She rarely worries and is slow to anger, can laugh most troubles off and will often just "go with the flow", wherever that may take her. Living in Lhavit she has had the opportunity to study magic openly, and she is currently a student at the prestigious Dawn House, studying Reimancy under Sousa Dawn. She also studies Shielding under the tutelage of Elena Lariat.

Luna has left home and currently lives alone in an apartment at the Solar Wind complex which she rents for 7 kina per month. She has somewhat of an addiction to silk - not unusual among the Lhavitians - and has amassed a fair collection of quite beautiful silk clothes already, plus one very high end woolen long coat in the popular style of Lhavit. She works under Yana Dawn as part of a team of six emergency Reimancers, earning around 7 kina/day which is enough to live fairly comfortably in common conditions. Any excess money she earns is usually spent on makeup, hair dyes, new clothes, fine dining or is simply burned away partying.

Character History

Luna comes from a family of no great distinction, but a very happy home nonetheless. She showed great interest in magic at a very young age, and would often play near one of the three towers of Lhavit to watch the wizards practicing. When she was old enough, her parents sent her to Sousa Dawn for initiation and training in the art of Reimancy.

Her daily lessons progressed fairly well and Luna has already become a fairly skilled Reimancer for her age (competent in Fire and Air, but still learning the combination), although she struggles to maintain full control and accidents still happen frequently. Sousa has tried repeatedly to teach balance and control through meditation, but Luna just can't seem to focus long enough for it to be effective. As is customary for those who practice Reimancy, Luna also studies Shielding which helps to increase the safety factor quite significantly, although her skill in Shielding is lower than that in Reimancy, so she is quite capable of accidentally or purposefully breaking her own shields.

When she was just 16, she was visited by the god Ionu, who saw in her a personality similar to his own. Her excessive vanity, love of pranking, hatred of boredom and occasional use of mind-altering drugs encouraged the god to bestow his mark upon her. Maybe he had something planned for her, maybe he just thought it would be fun, who really knows? The end result though, is that Luna now has the ability to weave small illusions involving a single sense (sight, smell, sound, taste or touch).

Luna being the first Reimancer in the family since those times, it has even greater meaning to her and losing it would be absolutely devastating.

A visit from Ionu - 36th of Summer, 512AV

The party at her friend's house was still in full swing at 2 bells past midnight and Luna was having an absolute blast. She had recently turned 16 and had moved out of her parents' place into an apartment of her own in the Solar Wind complex of Lhavit. Nobody would be waiting up to give her a stern telling off when she got home. Not tonight. She could stay as long as she wanted and get totally wrecked. She also had no work or study to worry about the following day, and she'd only live once right?

She danced and weaved her way across the room to get another drink. The effect of the poppers she had taken earlier was still fairly strong but she wanted - no she needed - a little something more. If only she'd had the foresight to buy another sack. Luna had taken a double dose of poppers only once before about a month prior, and it had been almost pure ecstasy. She had felt like a goddess at the time. Oh to feel that way again. Sure the after effects were brutal, she'd barely been able to move the day after she was so utterly exhausted, but it had been worth it.

Luna was quite aware that several of her friends disapproved of her occasional drug use, but she couldn't really care less. Life was for living, not for worrying about this or that problem or consequence. There was nothing in the world Luna hated more than being bored. She had lost count of the number of times she'd gotten in trouble for some mischief or other she committed out of boredom, like the time she pranked her friend Aurora at classes in Dawn Tower by wrapping a magic shield around the girl's Res as it formed so she was unable to create any water. The poor girl was almost crying by the time everyone realised what was going on, and of course Luna was disciplined harshly for using her magic so frivolously as a joke. Bah, nobody else understood, why could nobody else understand?

Just then she caught a glimpse of Kheevan Wurestyk across the room. The tall and slender 19 year old boy was always at these parties, and she knew exactly why. Quickly she headed after him, catching up just as he was leaving. "Hey Kheevan", she called. He stopped and turned to look at her, and she continued more quietly:

"I don't suppose you've got anything left have you?"
"Maybe."
"Come on Kheevan, don't be like that." She opened her eyes a bit wider and put on an exaggerated sulking look. "Don't you want us to be friends?"
"Alright look, I've got some dried Funkus left, that's all. You don't do hallucinogens right?"
"Hmm, I haven't, but that doesn't mean I won't." She grinned mischievously.
"Well it's 6 kina per dose, you still got that kind of money?"

Luna stalled a moment as she realised she only had 4 kina left to her name. Damn it! She decided she would just have to try something. "What about 4 kina and a kiss?" She offered. Kheevan was clearly taken aback and seemed to be weighing it up carefully. After some deliberation he finally accepted. She had actually only meant a quick peck on the cheek, so was suprised to find they were suddenly in each others arms, kissing as though it was the last thing they would ever do. It must have been the poppers making her a little crazy, she didn't even really like him like that. In fact she'd never given it much thought before now. Oh well, she had the Funkus and that's all that mattered right at that moment. She blushed and backed away from Kheevan, who looked almost as flustered as she felt and quickly made his exit. She obtained a drink of wine to dissolve the Funkus powder in and drank it down in one go. Twenty minutes or so and she'd be flying for sure, she'd deal with Kheevan - or not - later.

It was her first time on hallucinogens, so when the floor starting rippling like water and the room started swaying she decided it was time to leave the party. It wasn't that it freaked her out or anything, the poppers still made her feel pretty awesome, she just wanted to savor the experience more fully on her own. When the fresh air hit her, however, it was like the world just suddenly changed on her somehow. The rush from the poppers started to kick in again and suddenly there were brilliant fountains of light erupting from street lamps and the floor shifted smoothly from stone to grass, then to marble, sand, water and back to stone. She glanced up at the sky and the breath caught in her throat. The sky had been replaced with a maelstrom of fire and ice, and a tapestry of swirling prismatic crystals seemed to dance through the heavens.

It was then she realised there was something else up there. A chariot of gold, encrusted with gems of every colour and being pulled by winged silver horses, and it was heading right for her. She watched in awe as the vehicle swooped in front of her and came to rest a few feet away. After what seemed like an eternity, the door opened and the most beautiful man she had ever seen beckoned her inside the carriage. She didn't even really think about it, she just walked (or did she glide) to the carriage and climbed in, the door swinging gently closed behind her.

The chariot creaked and shook, and then suddenly lifted off, soaring upward and carrying Luna and the strange, handsome man into the midst of that truly awesome sky. She wanted to look out the window at the sheer beauty outside, but for some reason she couldn't look away from the man. She looked at his golden locks, which had been black a moment before but had now seemingly always been blonde. The way they caressed the edges of his slender face, and seemed to have a faint illumination all of their own. His eyes too, were now shimmering with about five different shades of green, where before they had been blue. Around his pupils, small flames seemed to dance, accenting the inner iris with a faint golden orange hue. Then suddenly she heard his voice, like silk caressing her ears, though his lips never moved.

"Hello, Luna", he said.
"How do you know my name? I feel like I kn...", her voice was dreamy and unfocused, trailing off before the end of her sentence.
"I've watched you for some time Luna, you're an interesting girl indeed. But no, you don't know me."

She decided she could listen to his voice quite happily forever.

"I have something for you," he continued, "but only if you can answer me something first."
She realised he was waiting for her to speak. "Okay." She wasn't sure if she spoke it or thought it, but whichever it was he heard her.
"I want to know why." He paused, then went on. "Why do you change your appearance so often? Why do you take so many drugs? Why do you play tricks on people? Why can't you live right and good?"

Suddenly she felt like she was on trial, and the carriage turned cold. She knew she had to answer him, but what could she say? She could think of a million and one lies, but doubted that any would help her now.

"Because life is dull." She eventually stated flatly, it was the truth. "Because it can be so much more fun and beautiful but it isn't and I hate it!" She felt a heat rising inside her and her head became a little clearer. "Because nobody else can see what I see! They just can't see what life could be like if they let themselves live a little! I want to show them but I can't, they just think I'm crazy." She barely noticed the tears rolling down her cheeks.

"You beautiful, wild, crazy girl." He replied. "You already have a gift. You see the world how I see it, and now I'm going to give you the power to show it to others." He pulled her close and she felt a strange sense of excitement and wonder as her body began to vibrate all over. Where their skin met, his touch sent static charges in waves across the surface of her skin. She felt simultaneously newborn, vulnerable and also the most powerful she had ever felt. Then suddenly and without warning, he was gone.

She was back on the street, outside her friend's house. It was cold and the effects of the drugs had apparently worn off. She hurried home and collapsed into bed immediately, her dreams filled with the same beauty and magnificent splendour she had witnessed that night.

When she awoke in the morning, she was convinced that it was all just an effect of the hallucinogens, but what a trip! It was one of the most fantastic experiences of her life. No, it actually was the best night of her life. She was idly gazing at herself in the looking-glass, her appearance quite forlorn, when she noticed a mark on her shoulder. She turned to examine it more closely, and there, almost like a tattoo but fainter, had appeared an elaborate inverted triangle. She tried to rub it off but it wouldn't shift. And then it hit her, she had seen this before in a book at the library. This was the mark of Ionu, god of Illusion. And with that, she realised it hadn't been a dream at all.

She had been chosen, blessed by an actual god. Suddenly she needed to lie down again.
