Sabine Durant 'til death do us part...? Race: Ghost Gender: Female Eternal Age: 23 Birthday: 54th Day of Winter, 487 AV Deathday: 23rd Day of Summer, 511 AV Appearance In life, Sabine was a lovely creature. Luxuriant auburn hair fell to her waist in silky waves and framed her heart-shaped face with soft curls. Her skin was as smooth and as pale as porcelain, and her cheeks glowed as brightly as the moon. She had warm, chestnut-coloured eyes with the faintest speckle of green near each pupil. No scars marred her skin, though a butterfly-shaped birthmark graced her lower back. She stood at a tall 5'9" with long limbs and a slender swan neck. In her final moments, Cheva's mark even shone behind her left ear in the form of a silver, eternal eight. While Sabine's beauty has not faded in death, it is often overshadowed by her phantom presence. As a specter, Sabine's hair always appears to be wet and stringy, as if she had recently returned from a long swim, and hangs in long tangles on either side of her face. She wears a lavish white gown, threaded with gold, that falls to her feet and clings to her form as if it, too, joined her for a swim. She is forever barefoot. When Sabine materializes in a room, her presence is accompanied by a sudden whiff of the sea and a constant dripping of water. The temperature will often drop by a degree, but only the truly observant might notice this change. As a ghost, she still carries the mark of Cheva on her neck, though it is only a memory; her lover's mark mutated into a lacun over his heart in the moment Sabine died. Concept Once upon a dream, Sabine was very much in love. She had secrets and plans and a lover who would pledge to conquer the Aperture for her if she asked it of him. Both lovers were born and raised in Nyka, though first spoke to each other when Sabine was nineteen. They fell in love when she was twenty-one, after two years of flirtation. Her family gave her their blessing, while his gave her their curse. His had ambitions for a son who would become a monk, giving up a life of love and children for one of honour and prestige. She was nothing more than a distraction, a nuisance, an obstacle to be rid of. His family spoke loudly of their distaste, but dared not go much further for fear of losing him completely. He was, after all, an obstinate man who claimed to know exactly what he wanted. And what he wanted was Sabine. One summer night, after several seasons of fantasy and discussion, the pair resolved to leave Nyka on a konti ship and begin their lives anew in Mura. They made their pledges before Cheva, marking their eternal devotion, and planned to tell their families within the week in order to say their goodbyes. But in the saddest of ways, tragedy struck before either lover was able to share their secret. Just three days after their vows, Sabine made her way to Nyka's Docks as Syna began to set. Slowly, purposefully, she walked along the harbour, past the few monks who remained, and strolled straight off a pier into the waiting sea. Drowning is such a painful way to die. Now, Sabine haunts Nyka as a bitter wraith driven primarily by emotion. She often acts without considering the consequences, and has no love for anyone save her betrothed. Just as she was dramatic in her lifetime, she is dramatic in death and will often play up her sorrow and heartlessness for effect. She is notoriously moody and unstable, and has only grown moodier with each passing year as those whom she so vividly remembers begin to forget and move on without her. Sabine holds a particular bitterness in her heart for young lovers, and finds cruel pleasure in playing malicious tricks on them. Her goal? To split them apart and ruin any hope for happiness. Still, her love for her betrothed has never slackened, and Sabine believes she became a phantom so as to stay by her lover's side and guard him until his mortal life comes to a natural end. This does, however, beg the question - why did she kill herself in the first place? Haunts Sabine's haunts are directly connected to the strongest emotions she felt upon discovering her own death. She most frequently materializes while reenacting her final moments (in a rather dramatic fashion, as is her nature) or seducing others to their hopeful demise at The Docks, or while tormenting young lovers at The Lover's Bridge. She is also partial to trailing her betrothed around the city of Nyka, though has never materialized before him.
