Mamoru chuckled softly at the man's words when he started to take his frustrations out on Shayna for the ruined, or rather the dress he thought was ruined. The Trickster had placed a well colored shade upon the cloth, a dull brown that would appear as if the stain had set bells ago. "Is there something wrong sir? You couldn't be serious? You're the one trying to sell the good people of Kenash dirty clothing, and you're going to blame that on my slave? She hasn't touched anything..she knows better. Isn't that right my pet?"
He noticed her hesitation and with the man eying her, it would be hard for her to sneak the item onto the table. It was time for another distraction and this time, it didn't take him a tick to think of it. Mamoru lifted his voice and started to speak louder as he folded his arms across his chest, one hand lifting to rub his chin. "Wait a tick..That hair, that red hair. You're Horthal, aren't you? I've heard about you, you're the seedy merchant that will do anything for a sale. Why, I heard that you even rob graves to steal their valuables and sell them. Is that what this is?"
The trickster forced a serious look upon his face and continued loudly. "Is that stain dirt, from the grounds were someone had been buried? You disgust me." Horthal was beside himself, and his face was almost as red as his hair. There were people all around the market and plenty were close enough to hear Mamoru and the gossip he spilled. "Shut up you fool! What are you trying to pull? My wares are all good and new items. I don't need to sink to that level. Don't you go starting rumors and lies!"
Mamoru smiled then, his yellow-green eyes flaring with mischief. "You're the fool. Did you really think that you could disrespect me and get away with it? No slave of mine steps out of line and I won't take insolence from people like you either." By this time Shayna had quickly hid behind him, he slipped his hands behind his back, palms turned up and fingers waving her to come closer. He figured if she still had the item that she would place it into his hands, and if not, she would place her own hands into his instead. "You're a depraved man Horthal, and a sad excuse for a merchant. I no longer wish to shop here. Good day to you."
With that Mamoru turned and headed off in the direction that he had came. Horthal glared at him for a moment then quickly turned to those looking at him and tried his best to dispel the rumor and explain away the stain on the dress. The trickster slowed his walk, making sure that Shayna was with him and spoke to her with a hushed tone. "You did well my dear. I don't think Horthal's luck is about to get any better, but that's no my problem.. Now then, let's go and see what our alley friend wants."
They returned to the alley, and this time he had Shayna wait closer by the corner, rather than the alley entrance. That way she was closer to him, if she needed to get his attention. Mamoru moved back around the corner to find the man sitting on a chair with his arms folded and one leg half crossed the other. It was odd, he was sure the chair wasn't there the first time he came through. "It is done." the trickster said simply. The man nodded and stood up from his chair. He appeared just as he had before, not the last time that Mamoru saw him, but from the first time that he did. "I know, I saw your work."
Mamoru arched a brow, and the man did so in return. "What? You thought I was just going to take your word for it? Come on, but a word of advice. Your little friend, next time she might want to try and be a bit more subtle. Lucky for us no one would suspect a thief would ever put anything back. Name's Berk by the way." He almost smiled as he reached a hand out for Mamoru to shake.
"I see, well can't blame you for wanting to be certain. As for my girl, she's a bit new to this all, but she learns very quickly. Now, you mind telling me why you're giving a man a free necklace?" The trickster had his own ideas as to the why, but he didn't want to make any assumptions. "Fine, I'll tell you. That Horthal is a sleaze, been swindling people s in Kenash for years. Well he owes me a favor, at least he will when I threaten to alert the authority that he's been stealing his wares from others. That was a pretty interesting rumor you started there. Think I'll use it to further my own cause."
Mamoru smiled and folded his arms, looking down on the man even though they were the same height and about the same size. "Smart man, I can see how that could be useful. Now that I've proven myself, shall we get to business then?" The Dhani wasn't stupid and he noticed how the man didn't exactly answer his question, but after communicating with him, he realized that this wasn't some small time crook. This ma was smart and Mamoru was curious what he was up too. He could find out what the stall theft and replace was about if he wanted to, but he was more interested in what came next.
Berk nodded his head and got right to the point, he saw now that he could trust Mamoru and that he wasn't a dynasty spy or freeborn undercover. "Alright, let me tell you a story. A man comes to town a few years ago looking to make a name for himself. He had a very unique type of tobacco to sell. Something from over seas. But he doesn't have the finances to move the product. So he goes into business with one of the families, promises of equal shares, well mostly equal. But the deal tanks, the tobacco is no good and then he owed the family a lot of money. So the guy went to work, did everything he could to earn the money but..it wasn't enough. So to settle the rest of the payment, they took his daughter...his only child. Told the guy that once he pays them back the rest of the money he could see her again."
Guy leaves, comes back a year or so later with the coin to pay off the debt, but now, the family is asking for triple the amount of coin. Saying the girl was now more valuable. The thing is, they wouldn't even let him see her, so who's to say the girl is even still there? That's where you come in. I need you to find out if this girl is still on their property. That's all, I'll handle the rest. I offered the other guy six gold coins to do it, but I'll pay you double if you can get me that information.? Her name is...was Selena. Blue eyes, dark hair. She would be around seventeen by now. I can't imagine what they would have her doing, but check everything and everywhere."
Mamoru had been listening to the man's story and it wasn't hard to see who he was talking about. Another ambitious freeborn coming to Kenash, the trickster could see now why the man scoffed before when he mentioned his own intentions. "You're playing a dangerous game here friend, but I'll look into this for you. Find me again tomorrow just as the sun is about to set..I'll meet you at Reed Park and tell you what you want to know." Without another word, he slipped back into the shadows and rounded the corner to find Shayna. "Come Shayna, we have more work to do."
