For the second time in just a few chimes Evalin found herself surprised, this time by the strength of Aka's reaction to what had just occurred. She blinked in confusion, leaning back slightly form Aka as she stomped forward after snatching stowing away the ring.
She is quite excitable. Tsenrika commented dryly.
So it would seen... but for what reason? Is it so disturbing to lose but a single finger? I have 9 more still.
The living, however, cannot simply find a replacement should they need that finger once more. They are far more attached to their bodies than my Master is with her own borrowed vessel. The Familiar once more reminded Evalin of just how different she was from the rest of the world.
It took a few ticks for Evalin to work out the source of the Dhani's distress, but finally she did reply slowly, "Mistress let your heart be stilled. A wound such as this is of little concern to one such as I. In times past I have seen much greater injury. I have had mine limbs torn from their joints, my body cut to pieces, fingers and hands removed and through some terrible occurrences one vessel some hundred years ago was burned before a crowd of spectators. Though their homes soon followed." Evalin added the last bit as a kind of after thought, like she was remembering a fond memory as she smiled and looked to the side a bit nostalgic. Blinking she returned her gaze to Aka, "I have grown accustom to pain that would lay low many of the living. Something such as this is like a nick on your thumb might be to my Mistress."
Evalin raised her free hand, fingers curing around the finger still in her palm as she began to summon a small amount of res to the very tip of her finger. This she lit with a soft his an without a second thought she pressed the flame against her wound. The sound of flesh sizzling, and the smell of flesh alight, and then the wound was cauterized and the flow of ichor was stifled, "And there now all is well once more. Though I cannot return the finger to its proper place, I may manage well enough until when next I perform the ritual and acquire a new vessel. Till then this will simply do." For Evalin the matter was over, nothing worth wasting any more thought over. Though she could not be sure that Aka would feel the same. In an attempt to bring the girl's attention away from the trivial Evalin decided to change the subject, "When the ring was placed upon my finger, on its own it saw to eating away at my flesh and bone. My Mistress did not seem affected as I was, so perhaps the ring may only be used by my Mistress and no others..."
Evalin looked thoughtful, "Where was it that you acquired such an item?"
