The winter purging in Kenash...

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

It would be the great purge of winter, a day that many would never forget. Only days ago the Magistrate had ordered the head of house from each family that owned slaves to conduct an intense interrogation to rule out Rujaro in the city. The event that followed was a viscous and monstrous extermination upon the slave class. Many were killed for being supposed Rujaro, but the purge also allowed others to easily be rid of their slaves for being too old or useless. There was a thickness to the air around Kenash, one stained with death and dread. The purge was the Dynasty's way of showing that they wouldn't put up with Rujaro, and if any slaves even think about helping them, it would mean their deaths as well.

Reno left the Boldvine house with Estrellir Konrath and headed into the city. After their meeting some days ago, Reno had made himself available to the Konrath whenever she needed him. It made him look good in front of her father when he struck out to help her and to make sure that she stayed safe while she investigated on her own time. She was such a thin woman, and as far as he could tell didn't have any combat abilities, she was safer with muscle around. He walked along side the woman, his expression plain as it normally was while he was in this form. He said very little on the way, mostly just listening to whatever Estrellir had to say.

During the season, he had been working his way to getting closer to the Konraths. His job as the Magistrates bodyguard, helping Estrellir, and even his dealings with Al'thea were all to get him further into the family. Once the season was over, he wouldn't work for the family any longer as Reno, but Mamoru could still clink glasses with them. Reno continued along beside her, with his trusty Naginata strapped to his back. It could be dangerous for her to be in the city with what was going on, and Rujaro were surly lurking and planning an attack.
