An Evening at the Docks

Postby Kena on January 19th, 2014, 3:56 am

12, Winter, 513

The winds and spray of the sea chilled all of the sailors to the bone, as they moored the ship. The majority of the crew paid little attention to the young woman who had temporarily joined their crew. Her fiery hair made her clearly stand out from the rest of the group. She too aided in the work to keeping the vessel from drifting away from the shore.

Kena, like a handful of the crew she joined on the trip away from the warm embrace of Mount Skyinarta, headed inward in search of somewhere to stay. Alerted previously about the man, Coren, the inarta girl kept looking around for the man to show up. She determined, as did a number of the other soaked and freezing sailors, that the nearby tavern would be an optimal choice to settle into rather than to deal with the greeting party out in the exposed icy air.

An Evening at the Docks

Postby Una Tanta on January 19th, 2014, 4:15 am

Fianna was the most open and friendly of the dire kelvics and Una often spent long hours sitting across from her talking. Though she took her job seriously and always stayed near the harbour to guard it with Coren she realized the likelihood of attack was minimal from this vantage and thus less constant attention necessary. Her and Coren were almost always set to guard the port and they had a great repetoire with the fishermen. They knew the ones who were more likely to cause drunken havoc.

They had been having a quiet night of storytelling when the beasts ear perked up and she stared into the fog of the night unmoving and silent. Coren stood at her side equally as alert. Una gazed at them in awe. Most might think that Coren knew of his own right what was approaching or was being cued by his partner but having once bonded herself Una knew that Coren had slipped into his partners consciousness and could sense the wrongness in the fog through her senses himself.

The boat broke the water with heavy slaps. It was little and heavily damaged from the icy waters. Una stared onward jaw agape that they had survived. Rushing forward with Coren with the emergency blankets the three of them bundled the warmth around the adventurers.

Una wrapped several blankets around the fishermen, the last blanket settling around the thin shoulders of an Inartan. Her eyes fizzled with pain at the sight of the red hair. Her home was standing before her. Guiding the woman and men with gentle hands on their backs without word they took them to the Savintar warrens.

"Visitors stay here." Una informed her group when they approached. The three fell into shocking unison. While the two partners had worked together for so long speech was unnecessary Una fell in only a little awkwardly. "If you want to sleep we understand," Coren said, "But if you have the energy the local pub would love to hear the story of your unexpected survival."

An Evening at the Docks

Kena

The freezing winds cut straight through her, beating in the already defeated crew and herself a grim reminder of the past several days. The ice, that started to build on her the thick coat from her home, weighed down both her body and her spirits. The hum of conversation that had began to start was soon halted by the voice of the Vantha whom watched over the coast.

It was the gentle hands of the charoda that made the fiery haired girl jump. She turned, moving to grasp her possessions, only to discover a large covering draped over her shoulders. It was a pleasant surprise, and very welcome to her. She noticed the pale skinned woman proceed to work towards corralling her and the rest of the folks she was aiding away. She attempted to thank the woman, though she was exhausted and could not remember the words in common. She murmurs the phrase in her native tongue, and continues into the building.

An old sailor beside her muttered to her the purpose of the building. The warrens were a decent enough place, striking up deep and fond memories of the common sleeping quarters in Wind Reach. While the architecture and building was different, the feeling was the same. The people in charge repeatedly determined who wished to stay and who wished to leave. When the young girl arrived, they repeated the process. Her head was swimming and she wasn't sure what the folk were asking her. The old sailor answered for her, declaring that she would be staying in the warrens, and the establishment accepted this, and explained in simplest terms he could what had just happened. A moment later, or at least what she thought was a moment, the sailor was gone, and she found herself outside once again. So she wandered into another building that appeared to have high traffic. At least, as high traffic that the area appeared to have.

Stepping into the strange location, the first thing that struck the girl was the smell. It smelled of booze and sweat. While it was not the most pleasant of the scents, it certainly was a relief from the typical smell of saltwater that absorbed her recent past. The building was significantly warmer than the harsh windy outdoors of the north, and she was grateful. Her eyes roamed the room, and she lumbered over towards a nearly empty bench. Her ice coated body settled, and absorbed the heat of the room as well as it could, while her eyes slowly drifted closed. The hectic storms of the past few days were exhausting, and with a brief moment of peace, she felt herself drifting to sleep. A sailor, unfriendly with the ice it seemed, bumped into the table, reawakening her once again. Kena took notice of the charoda who helped her, and her curiosity sparked again.

An Evening at the Docks

Postby Koyi Da'kai on January 22nd, 2014, 4:36 pm

Koyi sat at the bar when the group of survivors was lead in she had just emptied another glass, and was ordering another when she noticed the Charoda helping the visitors in. Now isn't that something she thought, Koyi hadn't been in Avanthal long, but the last thing she expected to see was a Charoda. Her father had told her stories about them and how beautiful they were and how they had a beautiful city under the sea. She didn't know how much of that was true, but at that moment it didn't matter, She had business to attend too.

She spotted a bit of red hair, grabbed her mug and made her way towards the red hair. She grabbed the guy that sat next to the person with red hair, and yanked him out of his chair with one hand and threw him on the floor.

"So you finally made it?, Do you have it?" she said as she sat down nudging the small person with red hair. "Well!! You going to answer me?" Koyi's anger flared a bit by the delayed response grabbing the person by the arm, only then did she notice that this wasn't the man she was waiting for this was some inarta girl and she looked half dead. She guzzled down the rest of her drink and slammed down the mug. She took a deep breath to calm herself before saying in a stressed tone "Was there an old Inarta man on your ship, this is important to me. Well?" Koyi patience was wearing thin she needed info on the people that killed her father and the old man's letters had promised an answer. She hoped this little girl would at least know where the man was but it was more likely the old man died on the trip; she didn't have time for those kinda of depressing thoughts.

An Evening at the Docks

Postby Astasia on January 22nd, 2014, 8:12 pm

Astasia

(I'm guessing I can join now?)

Astasia stood away from the docs and watched as the ship was brought in, her light orange hair blew in the wind. She was wearing her usual attire, A white knee length cloak with fluffy white boots. Her eyes slid over the ship and watched as the crew started unloading boxes from the ship. 'wonder what they're up to...' She thought. Astasia continued to slip through the crowd and ducked into the warmth of the tavern.

With incredible stealth she duck past a group of tall men that were loud and rowdy. Probably drunk, she thought as she made her way through more crowds of people. Passing by a table she swiped a drink from a lady with tied up blonde hair. After she was a little ways from the lady she heard her yelling about where her drink had gone. She smiled as she slid past more people hoping not to be spotted.

Looking around she stepped off the the side.Ducking into a booth she propped her legs on the table and took a sip of her drink. She looked at the crowd as the crew members started to flow into the tavern.

OOCClarification: Okay so I have been getting a bunch of emails about this so I am going to post here to clarify it. Kena accidentally made a mistake and jumped from the savintar warrens to the bar. These are the changes that need to be made:

Kena: Talk about the Savintar warrens, getting a place to stay (or not) and then going to the bar. That can all be in one post since we already decided where this thread is going.

Koyi: If she does this then you don't actually HAVE to change anything but I would recommend you take a little more time in your post. Why is Koyi at the bar? Does she go there often? How long has she been there? Does she drink a lot? What is she waiting for? When does she approach the girl surrounded by a Charoda and the Icewatch? Mightn't she want to wait till the girl is alone? Is she sitting with other people or alone? etc.

Astasia: There is no crowd, it is the docks. If you are going to excercise your stealth like that you should probably describe it more so you will get more XP for it. Why does she want to steal the drink? Why is she following the group? Why is she curious? How does she know they are going to the tavern if she gets there before them?

:D You guys are doing great for new threaders so don't give up! But here is some guidance. When everything has been changed I will take my turn.

As Una, Coren and Fianna entered behind the red haired Inartan they were accosted immediately by a wild haired woman. Una had followed out of curiosity as the others aboard the ship had wished to retire immediately. Corena and Fianna appeared to do it out of duty as they watched the woman carefully. She seemed very distressed and absent. Una and Coren exchanged worried glances.

"Excuse me Miss," Coren stepped in front of the red haired woman while Una offered her arm, taking her to a table in the back. "It is impolite to address a lady so," growled Fianna her diminutive size not evident in her voice. "What do you want with the people who docked today? Did you know they were coming?" Coren asked lowly. Una could barely hear him from her place at the table and she swallowed anxiously tuning the voices out. It was hardly any of her business.

"Are you okay?" Una murmured to the woman. The fist around her heart had pressed against her lungs making her words breathier than usual. The Inartan even smelled of home, the delicious tang of sea and sky. "Let me get you some cider," Una offered, and whisked herself away without a reply. She fled for herself, each step away from the woman as painful as it had been when she had left home several years ago.

"2 Ciders please," Una murmured glancing over her shoulder at the Inartan. The maid at the counter smiled warily at her, "What's going on over there? Not often you see Coren here nowadays." "Nowadays?" Una asked as the woman poured the frothy Cider, the smell of apples heavily emanating from the tops. "Oh Yes, he used to come here frequently, with two teenagers." Una frowned, glancing at the two Icewatch members still leering over the woman at the door.

"I never thought of him as a drunk."

"Oh no! He never drank, he watched over the two younger ones. They were a bad sort. I always thought he should find some better friends." Gossip was popular in bars and Una listened half-heartedly as usual while she stared at the events unfolding with Coren and the stranger. "mhm..." Una grunted, "The one would always get drunk and turn into a swan, that bratty little think would run around flapping its wing, knocking over drinks and honking." The woman shook her head chuckling to herself as she handed over the cider.

"Cy?!" Una turned to the woman ashen white, "Oh I don't know the Kelvics name dear." The barmaid replied before whisking away to fill other orders. Una walked back to the table carrying both ciders. She smiled to herself, this was exactly why she so loved Avanthal, Cy was everywhere, at the times she least expected.

She felt his strong wings wrap around her like a shawl and as she sat across from the Inartan again she felt more at ease. "Here," she murmured extending the cider. "It'll warm you."

An Evening at the Docks

Postby Kena on January 29th, 2014, 5:03 am

Kena

The inquisition startled the girl, stirring up a small spark of fire in her heart for a moment. She rose from her seat, which did not assist her defense, and said back sternly, "No. I alone." She was the only Inarta on the ship and she did not appreciate the impatience and demand from the kelvic inquisitor. The answer she gave returned to her, ringing in her ears. A moment after that spark of her fiery spirit, her eyes turned from fierce to sorrowful. She said again, "I alone." She sat back down, disheartened, staring at the countertop.

Moments passed, and she didn't even realize that the lovely charoda spoke to her. She was not okay. She was lonely, and scared about what the future holds. Her eyes traced the warped wood of the table before her, trying to find meaning, but pleasantly discovers the pale hands for sea creature pressing forth a warm beverage. The steam rising from it warmed the girl's face, and the scent awoke her from the dark depths of her depressive thoughts. The red haired girl's lips touched the edge of the glass, and she took part in the joys of warmth once more. This time, it was a more fulfilling warmth than just the blanket and the building itself had provided. Her body began to return to its standard state. The cider did indeed help.

She looked up to the Charoda, and smiled. She sipped happily, then stated, "Kena." Her name was followed by a nodding gesture towards herself, sticking her thumbs out from the warm cup towards herself. "I no good at talk, but know little," she explained. Her native tongue did not seem to be the language from around here, and knew that she would have to start learning common.

Una smiled affectionately, her own common stunted she was silently thrilled to meet someone equally as ridiculous sounding. "So how did you get here Kena? Running a boat in the northern seas all alone...you must be a pretty incredible sailor? Especially navigating our icebergs. When I swam here from Thunder Bay it was a difficult swim...I can't imagine what it was like on the seas surface."

She sipped the cider, the warm alcohol made her shiver. Apples were a beloved taste in Avanthal but were extremely difficult to get started. Once they were larger than saplings they grew easily in the gardens. She didn't want to insult the woman but she was curious why she had left Wind Reach, not many of the fiery Inartans could tolerate the egalitarian Vantha.

Fianna and Coren had removed the violent woman at the door and joined them at the table. Neither of them were allowed to drink on shift so Fianna left to retrieve them some non-alcoholic Cider before joining them again. "You sure you're alright m'dear? Your boat didn't look ship shape." Coren asked worriedly, while Fianna smirked at his pun.

The bar had returned to its normal energy, pleasing Una. Musicians began to set up on stage, tuning their instruments. The flutes whistled over the bustling crowd. It was a busier night than usual but everyone else faded into the background as she gazed at Kena with her unnerving eyes. This woman represented everything she had left as a child and she couldn't help but wonder what was going on in Wind Reach since she had left.

The woman had gone silent and introverted, Una smiled kindly and squeezed her hand. She was obviously exhausted after her night and Una guessed she just needed to be alone. Nodding to the Icewatch a silent, "Take care of her..." Una retired from the noisy atmosphere to the Warrens. Her own exhaustion a maw of blackness before her.

OOCAll these people are gone so handed in for grading :3
