11th Day of Winter, 513 AV Location: The Smoldering Embrace As the children seemed to dance around, Kenna couldn't help but frown at their happiness and their care-free lifestyle. She had always come to this place in search of her own personal guidance but also the guidance of her brothers. Therefore right now she envied the children's happiness. Ever since she was at least one year of age, all she could remember was the two of them taking care of her. But now that she had grown up, their absence became more evident as the time passed. Today was the day she dreaded most, where all her feelings that she had pushed away would now seem to resurface. Despite her parents passing and being so young at the time, Kenna would relive the day itself like it was just yesterday. Out of the three siblings, each one had a different way of coping with the death: Anger, silence, or isolation. But despite their own different ways of coping, on the eleventh day of winter, the three would reunite and mourn their parents death. Although, tonight seemed different as it was already late and her brothers were a no-show. Letting out an exasperated sigh, she got up from the floor and made her way to one of the eight paths of the local park. Seeing some were already lit, she took one of the torches and lit the others in efforts to somehow help. Normally the three would do it together as it was another one of their traditions, but tonight it would be spent alone. A lone tear seemed to drag across her left cheek; Kenna attempting to blink away the tears threatening to pour. By now, her chest was feeling to explode and her whole body was ready to drop. Unable to cope with her out of control emotions, she let out a needed sob, her cries coming out as exasperated shrieks. Leaning over, she held her body close in order to provide some comfort; nothing helped. She wanted brothers to hold her tight and tell her it was alright, Kenna wanted her parents most of all. For a long period of time she had considered leaving Avanthal, but something always seemed to stop her. Everything happened for a reason and it's outcome would either make us or break us. Slowly this outcome was breaking her because even after more than three years ago, her heart wouldn't heal. To move on, Kenna knew that she had to accept the fact that they were out of her life but would always be in her hearts. The overwhelming pain of their death was something that just sent her out of control, nothing was there to balance her out. Seeing that the place was a local park, many people passed by especially during this time. They stared at her with looks of pity but also looks of horror towards the girl who sounded like a dying bird. Kenna was surprised that no one had called her brothers or any friend to come and get her. She was practically alone. Once the tears seemed to dry, she was finally able to get up and slowly trudge towards the bonfire. Placing herself in a more secluded place from everyone else, her blonde hair covered her blotchy red face and blood shot eyes. Tears continued to pour out of her eyes, but her gaze remained focused on the candles so graciously lit. Sometimes day-dreaming helped put her in a position where she could've lived another life. Kenna was a eagle in those dreams, one for whom wasn't bound to the ground but could fly with freedom. Their wings represented the strength, graceful, and flexible abilities they carried. On the other hand, she was a wolf who was emotionally unstable and a possible killer in the making. Normally, Kenna was never like this. Her personality was more or less the happy type, trying to take negative situations and turning them into positive ones. But for once in her life, she found her weakness and was no longer the brave/strong girl everyone knew. As a coping mechanism, Kenna pushed away those feelings, completely shutting them out from her life. In the process of doing that, she knew that every time she did so, her heart would only fall faster with each time that came. |
