Appearance

Serene. His movements are steady and smooth. His posture is calm. A man can be easily judged by his stance. His actions show that he is a thinker just by the way he moves. The way he observes proves that he truly puts thought into his observations, rather than starring through them.

Abel's face is long and slender, the details of it pop from the outlines of his bones in the more slim areas. With slightly sunken in cheeks but a sturdy jaw line, his features contradict each other with minor feminine traits and many masculine traits. The mixture of both even out into a rather attractive man. Although, life has taken it's toll - Abel looks much older than his mere nineteen years. Unfortunate encounters and grief appears to have added on a few extra years. His dark hazel eyes are narrow and seem to be continually squinting. His hair, long and black. The thick obsidian strands hang low to his shoulders.

His body is much like his face. A long slender frame to match his bony portrait. Shoulders that seem to droop a bit too far and arms that seem to hang a bit too low. Abel's been labeled a skeleton a time or two before. Though he truely isn't that skinny. Possibly a tad underweight but certainly not unhealthy. Without a shirt, you can't see his rib's outlines or the bones in his shoulders. The muscles in his biceps are considerably toned but surely not wide. On the other hand, the expanse of his abdominals are solid with a few trimmed ripples throughout them. Majority of the muscle on his body came naturally rather than him gaining it from exercise. Covering his entire being is pale, pasty skin and used to constantly get scorched from the sun's rays. For some abnormal reason his ghost-like hide never seemed to deepen or tan after burning. With age, this nuisance faded also with the assistance from the hoods and wraps he routinely uniforms.

Concept and Philosophy

Only recently Abel found his perception on life. What truely helped him find this hypothesis was magic; the way that Djed functions and it's abilities. With every action, their is obviously a reaction. The way he sees and best analyzes Djed to himself and others is energy. He prospects Djed and energy as the divine force or power. Instead of seeing Lhex or Tanroa and gods/goddesses of that sort of an all being deity; he views energy as a solution. He does indeed accept the gods and goddesses as he also honors a select few of them by ritual and prayer. In no way is a skeptic in that standpoint. But above all gods and goddesses is the Djed and even they function from the Djed's spiritual force. Admittedly, the influence of it's capability and power is still something he is not yet even close to explaining. There are still an eternal supply of curiosities he has yet to justify.

With all of the questions of life he has, he also has many answers. Abel is an innovator and thinker. Constantly trying to better his mental state and explain the unexplained. When something comes along that he is unable to justify, he digs deep until he can legitimize his issue. Like many scholars, he is a hard worker and does not easily give in without putting up a long, solid fight.

Abel has a few minuscule inventions under his belt that never truly amounted to anything. They came as more of a hobby than anything. His mother's teachings leading to a minor extent of world magic, nothing substantial. Looking past the insignificance of the experimenting, he found inventing and worldly magic compelling. Making notion that they would both be something he could one day engross himself in. Neither of the two has seized his thoughts like his newfound passion. Personal magic.

With his noble amount of knowledge, it is bound to backfire somewhere. Like majority of magic users, wizards, and intellectuals. They all typically have some sort of downfall or fault in their thought process whether it be mentally or emotionally. Only having venturing in the arts of magic for a few years, now, it has yet to take a great toll on him. There is almost always a price when investing your being into magic. This is a price he wishes not to pay. Being so, he has slight paranoia around other magic users and even a tad around non-magic users. He is careful with information he releases to others and rarely gives anyone his trust, unless it is gained. This shouldn't suggest that he is reclusive or antisocial. Abel simply choses his words wisely.

History

Abel was the first child of three. He was brought into the world by his mother Melaine Stratis/Rayne and with the help of Lazarus Rayne, his father. After him came his brother Gabriel Rayne. And after Gabriel came their sister Clarity Rayne. Gabriel was assumed the strongest of the three. Clarity was undoubtedly the most beautiful of the three. For Abel; Abel was the smartest of the three. Abel was aware of his brother being perceived as more rugged and robust than himself but he knew that his smarts were ten times more powerful than any muscle in his sibling's body.

Growing up in the Western quarters of Nyka was not always the most pleasant childhood. Especially without a father, it was hard for Abel to have much direction with only his mother trying to point his life in directions that she wished for. Previous to Abel having any recollection of life due to such a young age, his father was initiated into the Monks of Nyka leaving his family and old life behind. Melaine had accepted this long before her children had even been a thought. Before Lazarus left to the Monks is when she demanded that he provide her with at least one son and one daughter. Melaine vowed to wait for her love until he was too old and weak to perform his duty as a Monk - protect Nyka and it's Celestial Gods. Three years later, Lazarus was tested by the Celestials and accepted as a Monk.

In Abel's mid-teens was when he began to find his definition. He studied the things around Nyka and loved to read. Unfortunately it was acutely tough for him to get a hold of books. His library consisted of a whopping three books. That was until the 21st day of winter in year 508 AV when he found his fourth book, a book that altered the course of his life. The day was so vivid, he can still recall the smell of fresh cut wheat being wheeled by him down the stone arteries. Him and Gabriel were playing near the Aperture when some Monks came through dragging a man in black robes with gashes covering his face induced from a beating. In the midst of his struggle while passing the two boys, a journal dropped from the compartments in his cloak. As the men dissapeared and the abandoned book went unoticed Abel and Gabriel took posession of it. After some haggling and Abel threatening to throw his younger brother into the Aperture he was deemed the keeper of the diary (Gabriel being partially illeterate didn't hurt, either). Upon much deciphering and reading the book well of twenty times, Abel discerned the book as a spellbook. He had heard of magic before but it was obscure and nothing he had ever thought of taking interest in.

He had recited the words multiple times but he knew that the outcome may shift, forcing him to come up with something off the top of his head. He strolled down the streets of Nyka as casual as a man about to attempt magic on a victim for the first time in his existance could act. Spotting an older fellow about fiftey years of age who appeared to be standing outside his home, Abel recited a prayer to himself and took a stab at it. As he began to set the mood with what was called "Emotional Response" attempting to put small thoughts and hints into the man's mind subliminally, he instantly knew something was off. In an effort to stop the hypnotism, he cut off the thoughts and began to walk towards the man. Abel then heard a voice in his mind. Then another. All of a sudden as he neared the man, words were overpowering his thoughts. He attempted to turn around and walk the opposite direction but he was becoming disoriented. He was being hypnotised. It had felt as if someone had taken fifteen people's thoughts and stuffed them in his mind. In attempt to retaliate, he used the techniques he had learned. He tried hard as he could to fight the thoughts and reciprocate. Feeling a warm sensation on his cheeks, he touched them and found blood on his fingers that was leaking from the sockets of his eyes. Everything began to seem distant, sounds sounded far off. He could slightly recall the fellow hypnotist running over to him shouting "Kid, kid!". After that, all he remembered was his legs turning to noodles and the air leaving his body as his back slammed into the ground. Abel overgave. Lucky enough for Abel, the man found some humor and irony out of Abel attempting to hypnotize basically an expert in Hypnotism.

Upon bringing Abel back to health, the name of his salvation was Ducietus. The two settled upon a mutual agreement of Ducietus tutoring Abel. With now two years training in the art of personal magic behind him and beginning to dabble with more powerful magic; Abel is changing.. Everything isn't always what it seems. The little black diary could very well be less righteous than what meets the eye. Different aliases and possibly ancient secrets may consign Abel on an odyssey that he never expected.

With those secrets flaunted in his face, he concluded that he needed to further his abilities in magic to their peak. There is a time and point in everyone's life when they know what they are meant for. He knew that the Djed that flowed through his body was his calling. His mentor Ducietus informed him of the lands of Sahova that crawled with the undead and there was so much magic used that you could feel the Djed in the air. Ducietus told him that any novice spell caster who sets off to the isle of Sahova and stays, they leave a wizard. Although, sometimes they leave more than a wizard. Lots of times crazed, other times cold blooded. Though many who stay for some extended time finding themselves staying much longer than they bargained for.

After almost a season of putting thought into the idea of leaving Nyka, he concluded that he would travel to the far island. It was quite easy to find a merchant who sailed to Sahova. Any good trader knows that the undead always pay an extremely fair price for their goods. Especially stiff bodies. Unfortunately, Abel ended having to take a galley filled of corpses. Corpses or not - Abel sailed off in the Fall of 513 AV. He climbed onto the vessel of corpses and not once looked back to Nyka.

This is where the story of Abel Usele unfolds.
