Kavala looked slightly amused.
"Yes, I'm not too keen on Akalaks at the moment either." She admitted, looking like she was slightly ashamed of herself.
“Everyone gets worms, Reven. From my chickens to my horses to my cows. They all get treatment. Even people and Konti and Akalak can get them if they aren’t eating a good diet, cooking their food properly, and scrounging. You are a good twenty if not more pounds underweight. And I suspect its because the worms are eating all your food out of your belly and guts and not letting you have it. So if you eat small meals, that’s like eating nothing at all because they will eat until they are full and leave the rest for you. Really, of all the things that could have been wrong with you, being wormy is really the least of them and the easiest to take care of.” Kavala said, leaning over and stroking Reven’s hair like Cadra enjoyed when she wanted soothed. The Konti was beginning to really like Reven. She was glad the Kelvic hadn’t bonded young and had all the wits and sharpness of the best of her race.
“So don’t worry… and by all that’s sacred do not for a moment think I’d even give a thought to penning you up or confining you to a room. I just need you to check with me a couple times a day to get your medicine and come to me immediately if you get sick with it because the dosage is very particular. You can give too much and make a person sick, or you can give to little and not kill all the worms. That’s why I need to watch you. But that doesn’t mean staring at you twenty four bells a day.” The Konti said with a laugh.
“And in terms of coin, I don’t take money from Kelvics. Your kind tends to not use it much and you have something far more valuable than that you can trade with. We always have mouths to feed here and a huntress or someone willing to trade those types of skills – a fresh deer or some grouse or even a few rabbits – a day would really help out and go far further than coin. I have two Kelvics that are residents here already. One is a house cat.. Cadra.. she cooks. And another is an eagle, Larik. He’d probably enjoy an earth bound hunting companion because he makes a wonderful scout with his eyes. I never tell them when to be where or what to do. It serves no purpose and they need to grow into their own still. They are far younger than you... just barely over a year.. so you’d be a good influence.” Kavala said with a tired smile, leaning back against the counter.
“There’s a library with a few books and all kinds of writing materials you can feel free to use... and there’s no locks on any doors anywhere here except the sea gates and the Within gates. I’ll give you a tour to show you. So you can’t be locked in, only out and that’s only in the case of an emergency.” She said decidedly, chuckling slightly as if she could read the Kelvic’s worry, which in a way she could. Reven was a lot like Cadra and Larik had been when they’d first come here. There was a lot to know and a lot to understand.
“Besides, I imagine you have a great sense of smell – most predators do - and having you around and maybe even talking you into clawing a few trees and leaving some urine or scat around might talk the Night lions, wolves, or even coyotes out of moving in as close as they have been recently. They tend to shy away from claimed territory, and though I don’t know what kind of Kelvic you are… I can tell by Sivak’s reaction its something formidable.” She said, meaning it.
“What do you say to some food and then maybe a tour? I bet Cadra left us something simmering on the hearth in the kitchen.” Kavala said, as interested in food as possible these days trying to get her own weight up after the birth.
And the truth was, she needed a bit of a rest before the tour anyhow.
