Kel Tempest
"A raw and predatory feeling had replaced them and dominated what she was she was sensing of his aura, now matching fully with the otters smaller one. She sensed something lethally and blindly feral, not concealed, like nobody saw reason to conceal it. It just was what it was, just like the otter was what it was, ferocious, wild, genuine. Chandray felt the cold, callous practicality the man emanated when he spoke on about the thumbs - but there was also an impression of cruel satisfaction."

Kel is your typical Svefra. Blue eyes, usually covered by a mess of black hair, Kel would not stand out in a crowd of his own people. What did set him apart from them however, was not based on his physical appearance but the aura of outgoing arrogance, if there is such a thing. It lit up his features when he smiled. Or smirked, one should say based on his usual demeanor.
Confidence, though most referred to it as cockiness, oozed from every pore. He is what one would dub, free spirited. A spark of mischief can usually be seen in his eyes, eyes that are on the constant lookout for trouble. Not to prevent it but more likely to instigate it. A smirk is quick to make its appearance whenever he locks eyes on people, whether in challenge or simply out of arrogance, most have a hard time deciding. His cocky attitude and dismissive air never wavers regardless of the situation. Whether in the face of a threat or a simple sociable gathering, it is quick to irritate both enemies and friends alike.

Character Concept
Kel isn’t afraid to make his arrival known. Most people can describe how they feel about Kel in one word: exasperation. He lives his life, loud, proud and not afraid to drag other people along in it. He views his life as a series of misguided adventures. He disregards all social cues and says whatever passes through his mind, his flippant attitude stepping on toes everywhere he goes. His outgoing attitude and flair that he adds to everything he did does is quick to irritate people. He is often found as the instigator of most conflicts, intentionally or otherwise. But when he considers someone to be his friend, it was a lifelong bond though they are few and far in between. He can count the friends he has on one hand, two fingers even. He is furiously loyal, foolhardy and dives into matters head first. Blindly, of course.
He neither sees himself as immoral or ethical, he does whatever pleases himself, having no thought for anyone but his own personal gain. He does whatever he feels like as long as it he gets something out of it. That is what led him into thrill seeking. Treasure hunting, racketeering, whatever brought the adrenaline rush and filled his pockets, he dove into it headfirst. He didn't appreciate the derogatory names some called him, he preferred the term, entrepreneur. He considered himself to be a business man holding a job that took him…away from the desk. His quick tongue often got him out of tricky situations but ironically it usually just brought down more.
At the end of the day, when push came to shove, he came through and did what needed to get done to fill his pockets with coin. He even did it cheerfully, an apology always on his lips if matters took a violent twist, just before ending their life on the end of his trident. Death never bothered him, he saw it as their own fault if they ended up on the end of the weapon's pointy side.

Character History
In the Spring of 490 AV, Tatianna Wavestrider, along with three men and four woman, including Christella Wavestrider, split off from the pod. They were tired of the simple, boring way of life that the old Lia had insisted they live. Tatianna sought adventure, excitement. She desired the pirate life. So the eight Svefra split off and formed the Tempest pod. Having prayed to Laviku, Tatianna received an Octopus as her Pardisa and was declared their Lia.
But in the fall of 490 AV, Christella realized their views clashed violently. Tatianna was one for adventure and thrill seeking, pirating and looting their way across the sea. Christella came to the realization that it wasn’t the life she actually wanted to live. She grew increasingly unhappy. Tatianna saw that and with her blessing, she allowed Christella, three men and another woman to split off to form their own pod.
Thus, the Greytide pod was formed. The pirates abandoned their lifestyle and reverted back to their own ways, becoming sailors and fishermen.
They kept in close contact with the Tempest pod over the years, relationship between the two thriving.
In the Summer of 491 AV, Kel was born. He grew up on the high seas, the pod always on the move. They never spent more than half a season at each port, trading for what supplies they didn’t have. He was more than a handful for the pod as he grew up. Always seeking out adventure, whether causing chaos on the ship or harassing the wild life in the sea below, he was always on the move.
During the Nal'lyeo, the Tempest and Greytide pod came together. That was where Kel first met Tydus. Even as a child, Kel was an outcast among his own podmates. His personality tended to push people away and because of that, had no friends. Because of his social status, he met a similar fated Svefra child. Tydus of the Tempest pod may have been an outcast in his own family but that was where their similarities ended. They quickly formed a bond and their friendship flourished. The pods came and went, each gathering, the two instantly finding the other. Until one day, the Tempest pod picked up a paying traveler and set sail for Avanthal. Kel never saw Tydus again from that moment on. Seven years went by with nary a sound.
He never forgot Tydus. Kel was cocky and somewhat of an outcast in his youth because of his somewhat unruly behavior. But he became more rebellious as it became more obvious that the others didn't like his natural inclination for trouble. That was why Kel and Tydus became such good friends, they were both outcasts in their pods. Memories surfaced whenever he was alone, which was frequent. He never had a friend like Tydus after. One thing didn't change however. His restlessness never faded as he grew up, but seemed to intensify each passing day. When he was old enough, he contributed to his pod by learning and quickly excelling with a trident. He began learning how to wield the pronged weapon in all manners of life. From combat to survival, Kel find his niche. He learned to turn that restless energy into combat prowess.
Things took a violent twist in the young Svefra's life when in the Fall of 513 AV, the Greytide pod were caught in a storm and sustained heavy damage. The palivar, the Stormbrewer managed to limp to the nearest port, Black Rock. Unbeknownst to the Svefra, a magic user offered his services as a shipwright to help fix their ship. Kel knew from the beginning that something was off with the man and warned the lia to refuse his help. But she refused him. Because of the lia's decision to ignore Kel's warning, the night before they set sail the magic user snuck aboard their ship and killed five of their crew, one of them being Kel's mentor and friend.
“I’ve had enough of this pathetic excuse of a Svefra pod you claim to be. You used to be great; pirates roaming the high sea, taking what you wanted, burning the rest. But you’re weak. You lost your petching backbone the moment you parted ways with the Tempest. You’re cowards, the lot of you. If it weren’t for me, you’d all be dead. If I hadn’t killed that petching magic user at Black Rock, you’d all have had your throats slit. Just remember that.” - Kel
A month went by after the incident and the rage only grew stronger and more volatile in the foolhardy Svefra. The death of his mentor revealed to him that trying to help other people didn't bring about any good, it just brought hurt and pain. He forced the pain deep within himself, refusing to allow any weakness to show. Emotion was the enemy. It only brought pain. Unable to handle it any longer, Kel exploded and gave the Greytide a piece of his mind. He disowned the pod and stole the lia's cherished casinor, the Laviku's Wrath. Kel struck out on his own, intending to find the only people he knew would accept him as he was.

Heirloom
Kel Greytide was given his most prized possession when he had proven himself as to be an adept warrior at the age of fifteen. The trident stood at the grand total of five feet. The shaft consisted of a metal pole wrapped in leather, ending with three, twelve inch jagged edged prongs, circling the pole. The first six inches of the shaft, starting from the bottom up, were hollow. The insides were stuffed with cork and a metal cap closed it off. The cork kept the weapon buoyant in case it was submerged in the ocean.
Tavan Companion
Sea Otter: Jenkins
The social outcast of the Greytide pod, Kel had very few friends growing up. But the one thing that remained consistent through the Svefra's life was his friend, Jenkins. The two met off the coast of Riverfall in the Fall of 507 AV. The two have been together ever since.
