Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Riverfall 5 Spring 514 AV
Adi's first impression of Riverfall was something along the lines of wow. There were tall buildings, small buildings, and all kinds of people. She had just entered the city moments ago, still leading her horse Myaris. Hopefully it would be easy to find somewhere to keep her. What would be even better, though, would be a roof she could keep over her head and a job to keep that roof.
Her map tucked in her backpack, Adi began to walk. Before she could apply for a job or a house or citizenship, she needed to find somewhere to keep Myaris. Maybe if she kept walking, she'd meet someone who knew their way around the city better than she did. She started off in the direction of the docks, where logic told her people would probably be waking up around now.

Syna soared in the heavens, pouring light over Riverfall and its dock, Laviku's water reflecting the night, shining its dazzling cerulean for all to see. Tydus watched from the deck of the Laviku's Wrath, a laugh escaping his lips as he sipped from a bottle of wineNote to deduct 10GM for a bottle of Fine Wine. It was a rare pleasure for the Svefra to consume the sanguine liquid, preferring to purchase ale or rum at the local taverns, but he had decided, after the events that took place in the past few days, that perhaps he should avoid taverns for a while. He knew that it was a fruitless endeavor, that he was destined to return. Already he felt his nights on the shop, two in number, eating away at him, the desire for revelry tantamount. Crimson liquid poured down his throat, the slight burn of the alcohol brought a satisfied sigh from his lips.
Though, the quiet did not last for long. Not a chime later, the sound of hooves on the floor was present, the Svefra casting his ocean-blue gaze about in search of the origin. It was odd to see a horse, for the Svefra had seen such a beast only thrice in his 22 years traveling the world, but he knew what it was. The young man frowned as he cast his gaze in the direction of the horse. Tydus walked to the edge of his Laviku's Wrath, a smirk marking his features as he rested his elbows on the edge of the ship, leaning forward on them as he hollered out to the lass, his Common accented, though understandable, "Oi, lass! Are ye' lost? This'n dock be for ships, not horses."
The words were not meant to be said in an aggressive tone, rather, his laughter afterwards would clearly mark the words as a gentle teasing, though there was a curiosity in his bright eyes. The young man closed his eyes after he spoke, savouring the heat of the sun upon his bare shoulders and back, his smirk turning into a bright grin as the whale marked upon his shoulder swam about within the mark. If the woman was astute enough, and chose to look in his direction, she should see both the mark on his left shoulder, and the pod tattoo on his right forearm, showing plainly to those that knew the signs that he was of Svefra blood.- Tydus Tempest

Riverfall 5 Spring 514 AV The Vantha's eyes were closed, a slight smile on her face as she took in the warmth from Syna's morning appearance. Rays of light hitting her hair, which was let out of its usual braid, reflected back around her and brought out the subtle streaks of purple that proved she was indeed one of the children of the auroras. Back in Avanthal, she only rarely had the opportunity to see in full light without the assistance of a torch or a lantern, and she intended to take advantage of this moment, however brief. She did, after all, have to find her way around the city. The clop-clop-clop of hooves from her left side reminded Adi of the cargo she led with her. A small sigh escaped lips the color of a wine stain on white fur as she shook her head and opened her eyes. Their color took only moments to change from a pinkish violet to a slightly more somber yellow. Carefully, she brought her left hand up-clutching her mother's prized mare Myaris' reins-and rubbed the white horse's face. Had the animal been able to smile, Adi was certain she would have.
Accompanied by the clopping of hooves on the stone path was the slight padding coming from feet tucked snugly into leather boots. All six legs stopped for a moment, and two of them changed direction slightly. She had finally located the docks of Riverfall.
Myaris followed her then, onto the docks themselves. It was peaceful at this time, much earlier than most residents of the city would have to get up and start working. Adi took a moment to enjoy the silence-or, she would have if someone had not called out to her in Common, the only language she was fluent in. "Oi, lass! Are ye' lost? This'n dock be for ships, not horses." She jerked her head to the right towards the sound of a male voice, eyes slowly taking on an amber tone. It took her only a moment to realize who called out to her. A shirtless human grinned from a ship next to her, eyes closed. He bore marks on each of his shoulders that a faint memory from her childhood remembered. Svefra, perhaps? She smiled then, recognizing that he meant her no harm. "I'm a bit lost! Could you help me?" |

A bit lost? The Svefra chuckled aloud at the comment, shaking his head as he looked around the docks. There was no stable, and crowded with ships as it was, likely never did have horses in this area. As the Svefra cast his gaze about, he noted that several of the citizens were staring at the woman and her horse with incredulous stares. The Svefra resisted the urge to do so himself, but it would show in his words that he was amused, "Aye, lass. Lost ye' are. Takin' a horse into the middle of Riverfall. Ha! Not much for horses, but I think that ta' stables are the other way, lass. Horses ain't much for the ocean, y'see. Maybe yer' thinkin' of seahorses. Different creatures."
The laugh sounded louder as he shook his head at the ridiculousness of it all. The Tempust raised his foot, bending at the knee to plant it upon the railing of the casinor. Tydus pushed up with his other leg, the one at the ground, and lifted himself entirely off of the deck, standing upon the edge of a ship. To non-Svefra, the maneuver would seem like suicide, or madness, but to the Svefra, it was an everyday thing. The Tempest stepped forward off of the ship, feet meeting solid ground and stepping forward to approach the woman. Bright blue eyes of Laviku's blood cast their gaze upon her form first, then rose to her eyes, chuckling quietly in appreciation before realizing the woman's eyes were different than most. He recognized it from somewhere, but he couldn't be sure. Upon reflection, the Tempest realized that the woman was familiar. Neither her face nor her name, but she exuded a similar presence as the Magic Merchant he had known so many years before. Is she a Vantha? Like the Magic Man? Hmm... I'll ask in time.
The Svefra nodded resolutely before he extended his hand forward, the tattooed arm showing the full face of the embossed clock and the octopus tentacle that represented the previous Lia's Pardisa. "Anyway, me name's Tydus, dear lass. Tydus Tempest. Pleasure to make yer acquaintance. Take it by yer lack of know-how in Riverfall that yer a tourist? Takin' in the beach sights?" He chuckled again, smiling brightly at the woman.- Tydus Tempest

"Aye, lass. Lost ye' are. Takin' a horse into the middle of Riverfall. Ha! Not much for horses, but I think that ta' stables are the other way, lass. Horses ain't much for the ocean, y'see. Maybe yer' thinkin' of seahorses. Different creatures." Amber eyes closed and opened slowly, orange flowing into them like thin magma as the sailor's words registered in her mind. Is he making fun of me? "I'm no child. I've had basic education. I can tell the difference between horses and seahorses, you know." The words flew out of Adi's lips before she could stop herself. Trusting Myaris to stay where she had been led before the two had stopped, the Vantha released the horse's reins. Her newly freed left hand instinctively went to the Gnosis mark gifted to her from Morwen on the back of her neck before she thought twice and lowered her arm. The orange that had previously filled her eyes flashed to a vivid red momentarily, then lightened as she processed what the young man on his ship had said. She bit her lower lip and inclined her head to serve as a wordless apology, hoping he wouldn't make a malicious comment back. "I'm a bit tired and was looking for a place to rest first my horse and then my head." As if to prove she was indeed tired, Adi raised her left hand to her mouth and yawned, the sound muffled slightly.
She dropped her hand then to watch unobscured as the young man leapt over the railing of his ship, a gasp slipping through her lips. The move he'd just successfully pulled off would have killed anyone even slightly less familiar with a ship. Awe morphed her facial features then, transforming her eyes as well from a rusty orange to an unnatural pink. The gasp morphed into a low whistle and stopped entirely. As he looked at her, ruby-colored eyes flicked up and down his body. She spent a slightly longer moment looking at his eyes before realizing she'd been staring. She blinked then before looking back to Myaris. He had a confidence in his blue eyes, steady in color unlike hers but reflecting all the might and power of the sea god Laviku in their depths. He didn't seem like someone she-or anyone-would care to piss off, though Adi supposed there were even more twisted individuals truly worthy of that title.
Adi's eyes, shifting to a blue-violet color, glanced down at his outstretched hand. She offered him a small smile. "Hope you won't be offended if I don't shake your hand. I recently broke my wrist and it hasn't quite healed yet. I'll offer you my name, though-it's Adi. Adi Skyglow." Her smile broadened then, eyes reddening again, this time sticking at a reddish purple. "It's nice to meet you too, Tydus. Not a tourist, though. I'm seeking a home here for the next year or so. The beach is quite beautiful, though."

The lass's first words had a chuckle escaping from the Svefra's lips as he landed on the ground ahead of her, taking steps forward to meet her just as she mentioned the need to find stables and an inn to stay in. Gonna be a while before you can rest yer head, lass. The Svefra thought to himself as he looked to the horse, a cursory glance before returning to the woman in question. Her eyes had shifted three to unnatural, vibrant colours in a chime's time, the Svefra coming to the conclusion that she was indeed similar to the Magic Merchant. So... all Vantha have coloured eyes, then? What a curious ability. Remember the Merchant's eyes changin' colour, too, but I thought it was caus of the magic in 'im. Huh.
The Tempest did not take offense to the woman refusing to take his hand, knowing the pain of breaking one's wrist. He simply nodded before a shrug moved his shoulders. The whale upon his shoulder would swim out of view, replaced by the smaller fish that swam into prominence as the Svefra replied, "Sorry, lass. I don' know ta way 'round Riverfall very well. Been 'ere less'n two weeks. I can lead ye' to an inn, but I've never been to the stables area. 'Eard it was outside of te' city." He tilted his head at her, a curious glance locked onto her eyes. He had noticed that she had been staring at him, as well, though he didn't mind it in the slightest. A bit used to it, in fact. Tydus was prone to walking about shirtless into the city, proudly brandishing his lean form and tattooed body for all to see. He wore his tunic only when it was cooler or he was to conduct business with someone.
He chuckled again before he offered his own solution, "If ye'd like, you can tie up yer horse here and I can bring ye up to the casinor. Can lie down for a while. Chattin' with a Vantha is always a good time." The young man struggled to remember the old tongue that the Merchant had taught him as a final gift, though the words were strange on his lips. He did his best to do it justice, though. "Me... speak... language. Not very good. Teach?" In his mind, he felt an extremely unfamiliar sense of self-consciousness rise up in his mind. He felt comfortable enough speaking in Common, but Vani was a different beast altogether. He worked through the discomfort well enough, but in the pits of his mind, it was awkward.- Tydus Tempest

Riverfall Docks 5 Spring 514 AV
Adi's eyes slowly began to brighten as the young man continued to chat with her. He...literally just told me his name. What was it? Tyson? Tyler? Typhoon? Tide? The idea of a shrug went through her mind. It would come to her later. What came to her now was an incredible sight-his tattoo moved. How hadn't she noticed that before? A whale swam away, towards the back of his arm, and a school of small fish came forward. The tattoo looked incredibly realistic. Did he actually have the sea on his arm? His words snapped her back to attention then-"Sorry, lass. I don' know ta way 'round Riverfall very well. Been 'ere less'n two weeks. I can lead ye' to an inn, but I've never been to the stables area. 'Eard it was outside of te' city." She forced her gaze back to his eyes-how can eyes be so blue?-and chuckled. "I'm not familiar with the city myself. Been here about two hours." A short laugh escaped from her mouth. Right! His name is Tydus. She was incredibly impressed with his ability to run around the city shirtless. Not only would it be chilly to most humans-because of Morwen's mark on her neck, she wasn't affected by it-but if she'd cared to strip off her shirt and conduct her daily business half-nude, she'd be stopped for questioning and probably sent to an Auristics mage for a thorough examination.
She was surprised when he offered her a brief rest in his ship-a casinor, he called it-and a place to tie Myaris for a while. The idea appealed to her greatly. "What gave my origins away? Was it just the eyes?" She offered Tydus a smile. "I'd be more than happy to take you up on your offer if you'd have me." A second, broader grin crossed her face. Her eyes, which had been taking on more and more of a pink tone, were a sort of magenta color now, reflecting her relative happiness. She couldn't tell if it was simply being tired that had her this easily excited, or the company. Adi hadn't felt companionship for a long time. In fact, the last time she truly had a chance to talk with anyone was shortly before she left her parent's home in Skyglow Hold. Her parents had cared very much about her, and she missed them tremendously. Thinking about them brought a tinge of blue to her eyes, levelling out her mood to a more even purple tone. The purple was her default expression, and signified no real emotional ups or downs.
At his comments in her own native tongue, Vani, Adi tossed her head back and laughed. Black and purple strands of hair flew around her face, and her eyes brightened once again to a ruby red. Her laughter chimed like a song across the docks of Riverfall, a song most residents wouldn't know. Apparently she'd been blessed to find one who could sing the same song. The Vantha's laugh wasn't meant to offend the young sailor. What her laughing was directed at was simply hearing Vani. It had been a while since she'd had the occasion to speak in the poetic language. "I can try!" The words rang out of Adi's mouth loud and clear, full of the confidence Tydus didn't possess while speaking it. Vani was familiar to her in the way the Sudan Sea was to Svefra. She'd known how to speak in the lyrical tongue since she could first talk. Words she wanted to say came naturally to her. It was nice to sing out in her native language instead of the boring words of the Common tongue.

Bright laughter roared from the Svefra's lips as the young Vantha asked whether or not he'd have her on his ship. He smiled brightly at her, picking her left hand with his own and bringing it to his lips in a show of chivalry as he replied to her in Common, "Lass, of course yer' free to come on ta' ship. Guests are always welcome on board so long as ye' don' try to commandeer the vessel." He shook his head with a laugh, lightly tugging on her left arm as he guided her onto the Casinor. It was by no means a large vessel, and, with the sail tucked away and folded around the mast was it was in this moment, looked rather naked, much more humble than it was then the white fabric was buffeted by the wind. He'd only been aboard the Laviku's Wrath for four days with his friend Kel, yet he felt a sense of familiarity with the ship, a quick, easy transition from the casinor he had sailed at times while part of the crew of the Waverunner's Fist.
At times, it was simply more practical for the Svefra to sail into shore on a smaller vessel, the Sloop mooring itself about a kilometer or so out from shore as Tydus conducted his business arrangements and bartered for things such as blankets or ale. Larger trades, such as when the need for food was tantamount, a very, very rare thing indeed, were settled with the Sloop in the pier. Tydus motioned around him, resting his back against the mast of the ship as he bellowed, "Welcome onto the Laviku's Wrath, lass! T'is a pleasure to have ye on board. Make yerself comfortable, of course." And as he extended such an invitation to her, he placed the bottle of wine he had been sipping earlier on a nearby barrel, the ale within sloshing weakly with the movements of the boat, but it mattered very little. The sea while on the docks was far too calm to need to worry. Need a slightly stronger sip this time 'round. Win'e great, but nothing... nothing beats the sensation of rum's burn down the throat.
The Tempest scion reached down to the band of his sash, pulling the top end of the garment, the bottom of which was wound tightly around his waist and tucked into his breeches, and retrieved the flask that he kept bound to his body. The young Svefra uncapped the flask, holding the metal lid with his right hand as he raised the flask to his lips, taking a short sip of the rum, the flavour of it abound in his throat, the pleasurable burn running down his throat as he listened to the young woman sing out in Vani. He chuckled at her enthusiasm, nodding as he did his utmost to reply again in Vani, "Try very much. Work do to I have." Again, he felt the awkwardness of the language, unused to nearly singing out his words, but he tried his best nonetheless.- Tydus Tempest

Aboard the Laviku's Wrath 5 Spring 514 AV
Rosy red blood heated Adi Skyglow's face for a moment as the young Svefra pressed his lips to her hand. Looks like chivalry isn't dead after all! "I'll keep that in mind," she replied, reverting to the Common tongue. It wasn't quite as fun to speak in as her native language was, but it was a means of communication not to be ignored. A joyful laugh burst forward from Adi's lips as she was guided on the casinor. She was incredibly grateful he'd grabbed her healthy, though slightly overworked, left arm instead of her injured right to lead her with. It was the first time she'd ever actually set foot on a boat. Myaris, her mother's beloved horse, remained still on the docks. The Vantha sent a silent thought of thankfulness towards her family for getting such an intelligent and well-behaved animal. If all went well, Myaris would still be there when Adi and Tydus emerged from the ship. The ship itself was impressive to the landlocked Vantha. As a Skyglow, she'd never had occasion to see one. Ships and trade were what the Coolwater Hold did. Her particular section of Vantha culture was focused on art and creation. Though Adi supposed ships could be works of art, the boat she was currently on was fairly simple. It was elegant, though, and meant for quicker travel than a larger ship. A menacing harpoon was mounted on the deck. Adi made a mental note not to irritate Tydus.
She glanced around the ship, noting a barrel-and as she looked at it, her Svefra companion set the bottle of wine he'd been drinking from earlier on its wooden top. Tydus welcomed her on the ship then, calling it the Laviku's Wrath. She noted its name, too. Though he instructed her to make herself comfortable, Adi elected to stand for the moment. Her journey on horseback had only recently ended, giving her the start of a chafe on her rear. Not that she planned on mentioning it to an almost complete stranger. Since she'd have to get her arm checked out by a healer soon enough, she could easily pick up ointment then. She shook her head to clear her thoughts-rather embarrassing as they were-and felt her cheeks flush again. Oops.
She turned back to face Tydus then as he sipped something from a flask. Adi found herself wondering what was in it, though she didn't voice her thoughts. He took a healthy sip. Adi used the opportunity to lean her head back over the rail of the casinor in an attempt to get cool air on her face. The Svefra voiced something in Vani that sounded similar to Jamouran grunting, but was still recognizable as the elegant language. Her face, now thankfully blushless, spread into a wide smile and a musical giggle. "You're doing very well," complimented Adi in slow, deliberate Vani. And he really was, for someone who surely hadn't had much contact with any other Vantha in the past. Her eyes remained relatively stable at their usual purple tone, though they were streaked through with gashes of hot pink. The day had barely even started and Adi was already in a fantastic mood.

Day 5 of Spring in the Year 514 AV
He was surrounded. The jeering faces of the Greytides. A sound began coming from their lips. It grew louder and louder as they chanted. “Outcast. Outcast. Outcast. Outcast.” Kel felt panic begin to rise in his chest. They began growing larger and closing in on him. “You can run but you’ll always be an outcast.” Kel tried fighting them but they overwhelmed him, their blank slated faces staring, mocking. “OUTCAST.”
Kel jerked upright, gasping for air. The heavy weight that had been constricting his air flow tumbled off of his chest in a bundle of fur. The sea otter chittered at him angrily as he was rudely awoken from his slumber. The Svefra stared wide eyed at the wall across from his bed, chest heaving from the nightmare.
He ran a hand over his face and took a deep breathe. “It’s just a nightmare. You’re fine. You have a new pod now. Ty and Addy, both of them accept you. You’re not an outcast anymore…” Jenkins chittered softly as Kel ran a hand absentmindedly through the animal’s sleek fur. He plopped back down on his bed, hand behind his head and stared up at the ceiling.
His childhood was best left forgotten. His only friend had been Jenkins and they hadn’t met until he was fifteen years of age. Kel did his best to purge the bad memories from his mind. They had no purpose, it just brought back feelings of resentment and frustration towards his old pod, the Greytides. Kel sighed and ran a hand through his tousled bed head hair again.
Kel threw his legs over the side of the bed and stumbled to his feet, sleep still trying to keep him in its clutches. He swept up his mug that was left discarded on the floor from the night before and ambled over to the door. He turned back, one hand on the handle, “Jenkins, you comin’?” The sea otter snuggled into the bed as his answer and Kel snorted.
The door swung open and he winced as the sunlight shot daggers into his eyes. He held up a hand against the rays, squinting as he stumbled across the deck towards the barrel of ale. Kel jerked the lid off of the cask and dipped his mug into the liquid. He lifted the ale to his lips and let the refreshing beverage swirl in his mouth, the dark hops leaving a faint aftertaste as it passed down his throat.
He lowered the mug with a satisfied ahhhh. A slow bubble moved its way from his stomach, to his chest before exploding out of his mouth in a loud belch. Kel stretched luxuriously, feeling the chill from the air, goose bumps crossing his skin. He finally looked at his surrounding and came to an abrupt halt.
Kel blinked.
“Oh.” It registered in his mind that Tydus was with a woman on the decks of his ship. His mind was still half asleep and he had a hard time understanding why. It swiftly clicked in his mind as the ale warmed his system. It was a jump start to his body and suddenly he was awake.
“Aye there.” Kel bowed mockingly, arms extended as if to embrace her, mug still in one hand. “Me name is Kel, captain of de ship.” His hair spiked up in every direction and his tattoos shimmered across his naked chest. “And what might yehr’ name be?” Kel smirked at her, his dark blue eyes dancing under his disheveled hair mischievously.
If Tydus was being his usual self, Kel wasn’t able to let him get what he wanted. Not without first doing his best to ruin it for him. After all, that’s what podmates were for.
