Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Drumthroat?

The sea predator was not easy to spot and name from where Tydus stood, but when the Svefra woman named the beast, immediately a chill ran down his spine. It was a large beast, unable to be controlled by the mark of Oceanus upon the Svefra's shoulder, nor by anyone else's. It was a powerful beast capable of great damage, but the Tempest was unsure of what sort of damage or how it was done. He cared not, intent on just getting himself and the rest of the Svefra the petch out of these waters. Maybe the shark wouldn't chase after them once Callipsia and her bleeding body was out of the water. He saw from the corner of his eye as Kel seemed to nearly salivate at the opportunity of fighting the predator, and Tydus was not one to discourage the notion. If it meant getting the Tempest women out of the water, they could use the distraction.

Besides, it'd make a good story in the end. How Tydus Tempest and the Tempest Pod destroyed the mighty Drumthroat? Classic.

A chuckle escaped the Svefra's lips as the situation seemed to dim in its threat capacity, adrenaline pulling at the Svefra's system as a fight or fight reflex pushed into his mind. His body decided to fight, and so his arms pulled harder at the rope keeping the women tethered to the casinor. Each pull brought them closer and closer as the Tempest pulled Callipsia and Nerida on board. Immediately after the task was done, he reached towards the side of the ship, finding one of the light harpoons and waving it around frantically.

Good thing Kel has these, we'll launch them out of the mounted cross he has.

Tydus was by no means a shooter, but he figured it was best to have the weapon and try than to simply stand there and be useless. Tydus ran towards the heavy crossbow, fitting the harpoon into the weapon's loading bay and aiming the thing with his arms. There was a lever which acted as the device's trigger, and Tydus held his hand close to it, shouting out at Kel,

"Distract the bastard! I'll get in a shot and ye can finish it off!"

He took control of the situation by necessity, his voice barking out the order without conscious effort of it, his hands shaking on the cross as he fixed it on the drumthroat, which continued tearing apart at the raft, not quite realizing that its prey was gone until Tydus shouted out.

The Tempest's voice seemed to awaken it to this fact, the beast quickly destroying what was left of the raft before making its way to the casinor, intent on taking its meal.

A thrill of adrenaline shot through Kel as he realized the shark was aimed straight for the girls. The Svefra let out a whoop of excitement and quickly looped the slip knot over the wheel to keep the boom from shifting wildly in the wind. He snatched up his trident that sat next to the wheel and twirled it once in a circle, a wide grin stretching across his face.

The voices of Tydus and the girls faded into the background, none of their words registering in his mind as he focused on the large fin that cut through the water. He didn’t care that it was aimed at the girls and would eat them alive. He didn’t care that the shark could probably destroy his ship and rip him to pieces. No all he cared about was the challenge.

Life and death, it was a thin line Kel took immense satisfaction in dancing with, savoring each victory and pushing himself to find bigger challenges. This one…well, he wasn’t sure how this one would turn out.

The black haired Svefra took a running start, lifted one foot and planted it on the railing of the ship before jumping as high as he could into the air and away from the Laviku’s Wrath. He threw his arms up into the air, trident spear heading in front of him and arched his body down towards the water.

He hit the waves in a dive, disappearing below the surface into a completely different world. An explosion of new sights and sensations overwhelmed Kel as he opened up his mind to the gnosis mark gifted to him by Laviku. Sentient life detonated in his mind, showing him exactly where every creature swam and how many there were in every group. But he ignored all that and focused on finding the monster.

It wasn’t hard to find. His mind locked onto the massive predator, twelve feet in length and destroying the raft the woman had previously been perched on. Kel flutter kicked furiously, opening his eyes under the murky water, aimed in the direction of the large shadow that jerked about in the water.

Kel readied himself, gripping his trident tightly in his gloved hands, prongs pointed forward. He reached out with his gnosis and touched the shark’s mind, unable to control it but taking a slightly different approach. He stabbed at it mentally, alerting the predator to the Svefra’s presence. The drumthroat jerked about, leaving the remains of the raft and honing in on Kel’s position before speeding towards him.

The Svefra could feel his lungs begin to burn as he floated in position, waiting for the shark to reach him. He pointed his trident in front of him, bracing himself as the predator jetted through the water. He could start to see it more clearly as it came closer.

And then suddenly it was upon him.

The drumthroat rammed into him, jerking its head to the side, knocking the trident aside and sending the Svefra spinning wildly out of control in the water. After managing to righten himself, Kel winced, his body aching from the blow and kicked for the surface, lungs ready to burst. His head broke free of the waves, gasping for air.

“Anytime now Ty!”

Not waiting for a reply, he inhaled as deeply as he could before plunging back into the water.

Additional Comments

This was a very promising thread. Such a shame that it wasn't finished and that it was cut off just before the Svefra vs. Shark fight too. :( I laughed far too many times in the most inappropriate of places (I have a worrying sort of mind) but I loved the interactions between the characters. I hope that Nerida and Calli reappear for more Tempest threads.

I didn't give a lore concerning the type of shark as none of you have fauna lores so Calli couldn't have identified it and so Ty and Kel couldn't have gotten the information from Calli's shout, or identified it themselves. So it's just a random shark I'm afraid.

Happy writing!
