Lysa's shriek was inevitably drowned out as she landed with a giant splash into the water. Her face was alight with panic as she floated aloft for a second. Her mouth, squeezed tight, would have sworn a colourful display of language if she had been outside but alas, she was in water. Cold, icy water.
Feeling the warm grasp of hands beginning to lift her upwards, she thought furious thoughts before she gasped, breaking out from the water's surface, sucking in the sweet sweet air called oxygen. Hoisted momentarily in the air. She turned to stare a light green glare at the person who had thrown her in.
"ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME YOU TIKITA?" she bellowed loudly
The man simply laughed jovially at her
"Wrong use of language dear, that's a word we save for non-Vantha," he said, heaving as he lifted the 14 year old girl onto the docks
Lysa didn't wipe the frown off her face as she glared intensely at her 'dear' old father.
"Whatever, you still tri-woah!"
Cut off from her sentence, she lost the feeling of steady ground again as she went drowning in the depths of the otherwise normally considered beautiful water on the docks her hold was situated.
The last thing she heard as she plunged into the green-blue depths was her father yelling gleefully at her.
"Don't try and swim upwards, I won't save you again!"
Annoying bastard she thought in her brain before the panic began to set in again.
He really was trying to kill her.
Kicking desperately, she struggled against the water attempting to defy gravity and swim upwards. Her father noticing her struggles from above merely grinned at the sight of the spluttering water. Stupid idiot he thought.
As if hearing his thoughts mentally, her brain registered the fact that swimming upwards in a 'vertical climb' as he had told her previously wasn't going to help anyone. In fact, it would disadvantage her. She would waste precious energy struggling upwards than she would waste struggling sideways.
Apparently it was a mistake people who drowned did. She didn't even get why she needed to learn how to swim. She knew her dad said 'If you fall off your ship, you don't want to drown do you?' before, directly quoting him in her brain but still! It wasn't as if she'd be stupid enough to jump off a ship would she?
She mused that question to herself, still in the water as she finally stopped splashing uselessly. Funny how she was beginning to turn on her back without her doing anything. The thought occurred to her that she actually did have a chance of doing so. With that thought spurring her into action again, she immediately started splashing again, albeit this time remembering going sideways instead of upwards.
Miraculously, she began to move in that direction.
Wait.
She didn't want to move anywhere! She wanted to breathe. About to panic again, she felt herself get hoisted into the air again.
"What did you do that for?" she asked her dad, eyes shining iridescently.
Her dad was obviously baffled by her response by the way he raised his eyebrow at her and gaped slightly.
"I was just starting to get the hang of it!"
Still no response came from the dad, as he grinned internally and then chucked her into the sea again.
"WAIT!" she screamed to no avail as she felt the air whoosh past her face and then her sudden drop as she landed back into the water.
She was really tired of unexpected entries. |

For a few seconds, all that could be seen was... naught. No splash of water, no hint of bubbles. Just silence.
And then suddenly it was disrupted again as the Vantha started to splash again.
She didn't even know what she was doing. To an experienced swimmer, she would have looked like she was doing doggy paddle without the kick. At least she was getting somewhere.
As she continued to struggle, the icy water began to slowly sap her energy out of her body. She hadn't noticed before but it was. She had to think of ways she could swim without exerting too much energy.
It was hard to think though, with her leg- her legs! Yes, she could also use her legs. Maybe like underwater walking?
Trying out that idea, she pushed against the water with her legs eventually getting the 'underwater walking' thing happening. The best thing was it was actually working! Getting excited, she redoubled her splashing diagonally idea and managed to... |

Managed to take in a gulp of air before her head fell below the surface as if she had never appeared.
From the surface, one could have been walking by the docks and been completely oblivious to the increasingly frustrated girl sinking below the surface again.
In fact, one such person called the girl's mother went and talked to the nonchalant man with his fishing kit.
"Do you have any idea where on earth that child is?" she asked, clearly not in the best mood
The man simply shrugged his shoulders.
"To be honest, I don't know," he said, looking up briefly before returning his gaze to the calm water where certainly no one was currently sinking in. It was about time she came up again he mused as Lysa's mum glared furiously at him.
"She's meant to be home!" she said angrily before storming away back to their Arvinta calling out Lysa's name continuously.
For a few moments all was peaceful before Lysa's head struggled out of the water this time. Happiness clearly showed in her dancing light blue eyes if only for a split second.
"I did i-"
Of course anyone's sentence would be cut off if they didn't know how to stay above the water.
"Great job," her father said to no one in particular.
Meanwhile, underneath the water's surface, Lysa was celebrating as minutely as possible. She was still in the water. How in Taldera would she ever get out she asked herself.
The answer came soon enough as she spied her dad's fishing rod. 'Swimming', if that's what people could call kicking and splashing with no system but getting somewhere, towards the rod, she tugged it and willed her father to pull her up.
Her dad feeling the pull on his rod, rolled his eyes graciously and hoisted her out of the water once again.
Stumbling on the wet dock, Lysa spluttered water rather ungracefully out on the dock.
"Did it," she managed to croak out
Her father raised an eyebrow at her
"That," he began, pulling out his fishing rod and placing it beside him "-was not swimming. That was a feat liable to be compared to a giant splashing walrus splashing around in the water,"
Lysa grumbled, still coughing
"Bu-"
"LYSAEA COOLWATER! WHAT ON EARTH DID YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING?" came the thunderous voice of her angry mother, storming out onto the docks.
"Uhhh nothing?" she said, unable to think of anything better. Shrinking backwards as her mother's glare grew more intense, she slyly looked towards her dad as a small grin formed on her face.
"Ok, ok! I wasn't doing nothing! I was thrown into the water by him!" she said, putting a whine in her voice. It wasn't like she was lying, her dad had thrown her into the water after all.
Giggling at the mess she had gotten her father into from her mother, she quickly attempted to slip away from all the trouble before unfortunately soon being faced down from her mother.
"You little," she said narrowing her eyes at the shaking girl
Afraid, Lysa began to back away when the angry glare in front of her became a grinning face, laughing at her scared expression. It was all she could do to prevent herself from falling into the water in surprise. Her mum was so strange sometimes.
"Come on you, if you don't want to catch a cold, you'd better come with me," her mum said rolling her eyes teasingly before dragging a still shocked Lysa along and pulling her dad with her. |
