Magic, such a frightning thing it was, it could dominate the minds of man, it could the elements to its will and it could allow a man to do the impossible....and it was the cruel master whom you don't want to anger. What Kreig knew of magic was rumours and hateful exagerration of the arts that had subjected them long ago, it was a justified hatred as well..... for other lands fear the arts of magic as well and Syliras was no exception to that.

On normal circumstances, Kreig would not dare dream of pursuing it, he hated magic as much as any good Sunberthian could but event's changed that. He disliked it but now tolerated it, that itself made him greatly afraid. There was an itch he couldn't explain however, one that wracked at his noggin and made him ache to a degree that nearly drove him mad. So there he stood as he watched a raven haired lass, swinging a single edged and slightly curved blade in a graceful and practiced drill. Compared to his own skill with his longsword, he imagined himself to be quite equal to her.... which is why held a wooden longsword in his hand.

He approached, slowly as to not disturb her practice with the blade. Once he was close enough he stopped and simply watched her train, her movements graceful yet aggressive... fluid and vabrant like a fire that couldn't be tame ' She really is a daughter of Sunberth And like him she was now part of Sunbirth's opposite. However, unlike him she embraced what Kreig feared.....

" What are you gawking at? Have I caught your eyes that much?" Came her voice suddenly, snapping Kreig out of a trance he didn't know he was in. He looked at her as she stared back at him, what seemed to be a scowl on her face but seemed to soften.

"Ah, forgive me miss. I didn't mean to disturb..."

" And yet here you are, disturbing me. Is there something you need?" Quite aggressive indeed, Kreig sighed internally as he gave her a look that was slightly challenging, as if saying ' I can give as good I get, lass. Don't test me'

" So that accent of yours, Sunberthian aren't you? Is that why you approached, the false belief that we were Kin?" Kreig looked at her silently, as if contemplating her answer but then giving her a simple shake of his head.

"We are both Squires, thats Kin enough for me...No, I was wondering if you'd like to spar?" He raised his longsword, tip pointed at her challengingly. She gave him a sigh, as if that were the stupidest thing she heard in a good while but then simply shrugged and nodded. She sheathed her Katana and placed it gently on the grassy earth and then picked up a wooden version of her blade and turned to Kreig, taking a simple combat position whilst Kreig did the same with his longsword.

Both blades were pointed towards the other, Kreig had longer reach however.... but that did not mean he could underestimate her, no, he would not allow himself to underestimate kin, not with this nagging itchgnawing at him. A grin crept up his face, he always loved a fight and what better way was there for Sunberthians to introduce each other? In that silent moment, a light gale of wind swept through the grounds, the grass swayed and once they stopped, Kreig launched himself forward, beginning the bout with an overhead strike, the lass blocked his blade with the flat of hers, feeling the full weight of Kreig's blow as she gazed into his eyes with a quistioning glance.

In response she pushed him and Kreig was all to glad to oblige as he jumped and both resumed their original stances.

" This isn't just about a spar is it...isn't it?"

Kreig stood silently for a bit, looked at her again with the most serious face in his life and then finally.....smiled

"No, it isn't" And then he launched forward.....

He thrust the blade forward with one hand, the lass noticed that it was slower than any of his previous two-handed strikes and thus ducked and let the blade pass over her head whilst she readied her blade to strike. As she was about to retaliate with an upward strike, Kreig's knee suddenly jerked forward and nearly struck her temple. However the Lass rolled to side and the blow barely missed her, she rolled again a short distance away and glared at Kreig, Kreig merely gave her a grin and then charged forward with a twohanded strike, the lass quickly stood up and as she did raised the flat of her blade to block Kreig's.

There eyes met again and Kreig looked inquisitive at her "....Why do you learn magic?" Came the question suddenly, almost shocking the Lass. He pressed his strength against her, trying to make her kneel before him but before that could even happen, she jumped back and stared at the brawler, her blade hanging near the ground as he she held it by her waist.

" You're not going to preach to me the evil of madness, are you? You do know the order allows mages to be a part of its order, right?

"No..." Kreig shook his head as he looked at her, then charged again and struck at her with a left-to-right swing, she jumped backed then moved forward and retaliated with an upward swing. Kreig took a small step back, gripping the blade now with his left hand and let the wooden katana narrowly miss him, then attempted to raise the blade, however a 'stab' to his wrist forced him to drop the blade and soon found the edge of the Lass' katana at his neck.

" Why do you want to know? She asked him, seriousness in her voice.

"It could decide something for me"

" Which is?" She asked... but then paused as her eyes grew wide in realization and stepped back, her blade lowered. A stern, regretful, frown appeared on Kreig's face, as if confirming her assumption "...To decide whether to learn magic?"

Kreig nodded as crossed his arms, lowered his head and snickered a bit " I thought asking a kinsman would be the best choice, knowing more from you would yield greater weight...Um forgive, me, your name is Lilly Grant, isn't it?" Kreig scratched the back of his head and chuckled.

"....Your taking this situation a bit lightheartedly"

"All I can do to keep myself from freaking out, miss. Not an easy decision to make, you know?" Kreig looked at her face and from what he saw...she didn't know.

" Why is it that you are even contemplating the use of magic? as I'm sure you heard, and there is no point in denying....Magic is dangerous" Lily seemed adamant about that, despite whatever Kreig heard about the squire she seemed to know that even the consideration of learning magic is not to be taken lightly.

"To protect"

" And the skills you learn now is not enough?"

Kreig suddenly snapped at her and said at her direction "ITS HARDLY ENOUGH...." He then grew silent as he looked down to the ground and looked at his fists "...Not too long ago, I've learned there are things far too powerful for the normal man to take with but his fists alone...." He then suddenly turned to her, a sad smirk on his face " Tell me, do you know what a Journeyman is" A look of shock appeared on her face, whether that meant she met one or learned of one from books, he couldn't know.... But knowing it was enough " When we were searching the nearby caves for missing hunters, it appeared to us.... I remember feeling such fear overcoming and such pressure from it, that I knew we had no chance, my Patron was knocked out cold, the Kelvic forest guardian as well lost concious despite being a large dire wolf. Myself and a fellow squire were all that remained concious..."

He raised his fists in the air, recalling the fear that ran course through his body as he remembered that wierd, faceless creature that looked like a mix of a humanoid and a spider "These fists of mine, these fists which can defeat any blade failed to do anything, I couldn't even move without the threat of it ripping me to shreds" He lowered his arms and looked at her " My fellow squire was able to talk it way, it was a curious thing really, always wanting to learn....so she told it of Sahova, a place of magic and learning" Lily nodded her head slowly, listening to the fear in Kreig's voice.....how it shifted from solemn into almost breaking down any minute like a raging river.

"I realized that day.....just how small I was in this big and dangerous world, that there are things out there, perhaps far from being as dangerous as the Journeyman, but could still kill me without even me using any weapon, without me using my fists. These physical things won't touch them....no, I need someting like yours....I heard you wield a damaging magic...I need something damaging"

All was silent for a moment, it felt like the world had stopped just that instant and before Lily could speak anything. Kreig said "....I think I already made my own decision, Miss Grant. Will you give me the opportunity to wield a power that I dread to hold?"

" Think carefully of this......I don't think you even know the name of what you want me to teach you. Its a dangerous magic, any mistake will leave you bedridden for even the slightest. The largest will have you dead and before subjecting you to excruciating pain!!" She yelled at Kreig, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt, tightening her grip upon it " This is not a tool or a toy to be trifled with! To learn what I'll teach means no going back!"

"I know..." He said quietly, abject fear in his eyes "....I fear it, every instinct in my bones tell me to forget it, but each time I remember that creature... I remember what I could have lost, I could fail to protect....and that scares me far more than any magic" Slowly, and gently, Lilly looked down to the earth and let go of Kreig's collar.

" In two bells, come to the Bittern district in two bells.... If you don't come then I'll assume you have changed your mind and I will never teach you the descipline you seem to think will grant you power. If you do come you'll have another chance to leave, but after that... She turned and simply walked away...

"....There's no coming back" Kreig finished for her, as he looked solemnly up to the sky "....Yahal...Dira....if you two are listening, I do hope you give me courage for this....for I'm lacking in that department now...more than ever" He chuckled humorless as he bent down to pick up his wooden blade....

Till two bells.....

It had been the passing of two bells and he was already at the bittern district half a bell before the allotted time. His nerves were wracked, his mind asking itself over and over if that is really what it must do, if he should really pursue such a path. By the gods he did not even inform his patron of his intentions to learn magic, though it was highly possible she would know soon once he was done and that only served to increase the guilt. By the gods he feared magic, if it weren’t for his odd luck in meeting them in Sunberth and that one of his closest friends was a mage then he would have outright been enraged of the notion that he would learn something as wrong as magic. Yet here he was, mere moments away from learning such a dangerous thing.

As he roamed the district, soon he saw Lilly grant resting against a tired, battered looking, wooden door. She saw him with the same look of seriousness she had given him earlier and as he approached, she asked “ Are you certain now? once I bring you to the fold…there is no coming back from it

“I am terrified by simply being here…..yet I am here, that should answer your question” She nodded at his words and turned to open the door, then walked through it. She motioned for Kreig to follow and once he entered he saw what could be the barest apartment he ever saw in Syliras, its lack of furniture or anything that indicated someone used to live here surprised him. After all, you’d never think that the most populated city in the known world would have any rooms remaining. With a heavy thud, Lilly closed the door behind them and approached Kreig with an open palm “ I’d rather you think this some more, but in the end….. the point of turning back is no longer an option in your mind” She stayed silent for what felt like a chime, her mind in focus as she seemed to gather that odd gell like thing that Kreig once saw another mage summon but a few days ago, with her will it seemed to transform from its odd state to a gaseous form. It was an odd thing, it had an ethereal aura about it that certainly made it seem otherworldy and that made Kreig even more nervous. She gathered the odd gas into a small orb, reminding the Brawler of a common manifestation of spirits he once heard from old folktales. Suddenly, the ball of gass dispersed and Kreig felt a gust of wind hit him in the face…

Reimancy….it is the art of controlling the element with your life and will, to master it is to bend them to you whims, to trifle with it…..is to pay a deadly price” She told him as she now reached for a dagger “ Take off your clothing and toss them aside, then give me the palm of your hands…” Kreig raised his brow at this, somewhat skeptical of the need to remove his clothes more so than how nervous he felt about the dagger in her hands. Unfortunately, she gave him a look that said she wasn’t kidding and thus, with hesitation, Kreig began to undress himself as he discarded his clothing to corner of the room, which included his studded gauntlets. Practically naked now, he approached Lily nervously, covering his privates as he did so " Oh please, this isn't the time to worry about your decency"

She suddenly grabbed his right hand and with the dagger pressed against his flesh she pulled it and created painful wound in the palm, blood dripped to the ground as he gritted his teeth in pain ".....are you trying to kill me?" Kreig glared at her, only to back down once she glared back.

" If we don't do this right then I might as well would be, now dont be a brat you old codger and give me your other hand " He didn't have much choice as she had already grabbed his left and began to do the same, wincing all the same. The wounds werent deep, so they weren't all that dangerous but he didn't want to get an infection regardless....

" Now, go kneel in the middle of the room and we shall begin...

[Training Grounds] The Itch

" Now understand this....what you will feel might be the most traumatic thing you've ever felt, it will forever be burned into your mind" Kreig grinned at her humorlessly, as if he could even forget each and every detail of this day.

"Just do it..." Kreig said to her, with a nod she silently began. It was all silent for a bit, no voice was spoken or emitted; the thick door of the room even prevented the sound of outside forces from intervening. Kreig didn't know why she was so quiet, until he recieved the answer in the form of gas exitting her body. Lilly Grant seemed to be focusing so intently that even what was perhaps the simple act of emitting this gaseous substance required all her focus as it slowly approached Kreig. Its movements were felt so slow that a single tick felt like a century, and soon a tick into a thousand years... Was she being so cautious because it was so dangerous? He had half the mind to tell her to get on with it, but this was magic....and he knew that this was a different realm from which he knew, he had but no choice to await patiently.

Eventually, the seemingly long moment ended when the Gas swirled around the Brawler....it just seemed to get closer and closer, a predator circling its prey. Circling....circling...circling till it could strike. And then, with but the very begining of a new tick, it happened; the gaseous djed forced way into the wounds on the palms of his hands, it seeped into his mouth, nose and ears. So rampantly it coursed that Kreig could not help but move so violently that felt like the limbs of his bodies were about to fly off. From Lilly's vew he looked like a ragged doll contstantly thrown about.

With the these violent convulsions came pain like no other, a pain so sever that the world felt like it was ending and he himself was being broken down along with it. Lilly's Res poured through all the nook and crannies it could find, exploring him inside fully whilst his body fought back just as severly. A war was occurring within his body and there was nothing Kreig could do about it.

But all of that, all of that seemed to falter to this bizarre alien feeling that came a moment earlier than the pain itself. Whatever his concious mind could process, it was terrified of this feeling, his heart beat so fast that it felt like it could stop any moment and Kreig would be no more. It couldn't explain it, but it knew it was there, it just couldn't for the life of it understand what it was and it only made the convulsions worse, as if its trying to throw it out and it felt perhaps thats what was causing such tremondous pain.

Lilly grant herself struggled to focus, any mishap that would possibly occur meant the death of Kreig and it was quite difficult seeing him like this. If such a thing were an act of torture then it would be the cruelest as it addled the mind as well as the body. But she had to keep her emotions sealed in stone, her control over the res entering his body had to be absolute and in the end, once she pulled it out.... he had to be alive by the end of it and of one mind.

It continued like this for a few and long agonizing chimes, Kreig had to endure and survive this nightmare... she wasn't kidding when she said that this would be the most traumatizing thing that would ever happen and even made looking that day with the Journeyman seem so insignificant although that event was the catalyst that led him here. Soon...it ended, Lilly called back her res from Kreig's body and after but a few ticks it settled. Kreig's breathing was quick and shallow, his eyes wide in shock as his body felt like it was struck a thousand times by a giant sledgehammer the size of Syliras.

Lilly approached the Brawler and kneeled next to him, a hand on his and said "....it is done, congratulations. You've begun the path of a Reimancer"
