The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

-- Spring 2nd, 514 AV --

Someone had drawn up a sign, and stuck it to one of Lhavit’s walls. It was a little unusual, but gave Jenni something to… stare at. Not with shock or surprise, just interest. It was thought-provoking. It was about a foot by a foot and a half, with a simple painting on it, to go with the words. They were probably practicing their art, in retrospect. The words, however, were the more important part.

Welcome Our New Councillor Radiant!

Lady Alses!

It was interesting mostly because Jenni knew Alses. She’d spent quite a bit of time with the Ethaefal back in Fall, and then had a quick conversation during the Masquerade party. The Ethaefal was intelligent and well posed… she certainly deserved the position. She’d been an aurist, if the Twilight could remember correctly… quite a good one. You got to know a person, wandering around caverns for a few days.

The thought-provoking part was a little different. Mentally, she saw herself (almost) at Alses’ level. Maybe. Maybe it was just boasting. But with the personal acquaintance on the job, it made her think about… herself. What if she was a Councillor Radiant? She had tossed around the thought once or twice, mostly as a trivial dream. Now it felt more realistic… harder… If Alses could work her way up there, why couldn’t she? She had the status (sort of), the brains… She pursed her lips in thought, still staring at the poster.

OOCSorry for the short starting post!

Arysana | NPC 1 |NPC 2 | Thoughts | oocSorry for the wait and the length! D: My own post is rather short!
Arysana was always in a rush, it seemed, always running from the academy to the tower and back to the respite, before falling back to the tower or academy and visiting a tavern on the way home, turning her blood to alcohol before returning home once more.

Study, work, sleep, work, study, drink, sleep, train.

The rhythm was so tight and active that there were days that she felt crushed, her chest aching and mind a flurry of thought and feeling. She’d usually drink herself into oblivion on those days, light in her intolerance and quick in her sobering, the short rest periods of Lhavit enough to nurse even her most wild drinking escapades.

When Arysana finally pulled herself into conscious thought and mindful walking, the world was a buzz around her, the colours of spring already adorned in clothes and hair pieces, whispers and preparation for the garden days lurking here and there, a passing word or two about some swearing in to be held. The reimancer felt her gaze dwell on a tall woman of golden hair, before drifting to a stouter bloke with a boorish look, each of them taking some interest in a section of stone, before they took their separate ways and Sana finally settled her gaze on a woman about her age (Or who looked to be so from the odd angle that the geomancer had placed herself into), a painted paper before her.

With a bitten lip and hard set frown, Arysana moved with a jolt and ground to a halt before the wall. “Alses… Council of… what?” she figured in retrospect that it would have been best to keep her voice quiet, her words no doubt loud and sudden enough to startle even the most stern of shinya – someone had told her it was because she looked the part of an Inarta, something about pride and trust and the rather brash common traits of her peoples, though it wasn’t as though the young woman was any different. “Excuse me, do you know what this is about?”

Brains and Posters [Arysana]

Postby Jenni Twilight on April 6th, 2014, 10:27 pm

Jenni looked over with a rather startled expression to the new arrival, a young woman only a little shorter... who didn't seem to know this whole 'Councillor Radiant' thing. She would understand if the woman didn't know Alses, not everyone could know everyone, of course. But surely she knew of the new Radiant Council? The one that took qualified civilians to help run the city, and take the weight off Aysel and Talora? It had been quite the intrigue two seasons before. There hadn't seemed to be any continuation of it, however, until today.

"Councillor Radiant, of the Radiant Council," she said tersely, being a tiny bit repetitive. "It was arranged back in Fall... surely you heard of it? This is the first member, however. There are four more open positions. Lady Alses is..." She scanned the bottom of the poster, which had a small remark in loopy lettering. "In the position of Magic and Foreign Affairs. Well deserved, she's quite the Aurist."

She paused for a moment, and glanced over at the grossly uninformed person beside her. "Did you not know all this?" She said it with a tone that implied that not knowing meant that the woman was more on the stupid side. And it was exactly what she meant. She had little patience for people such as this, and though she could be accepting... there was a limit. Lack of intelligence hit that limit. She'd rather socialize with someone bad-smelling and smart, rather than beautiful and idiotic.

The Twilight sighed to herself, and returned to vaguely contemplating the future. You needed to have recommendations to get the post, then go through an interview with one of the current leaders of the city. For recommendations... she could go to her father, her Uncle, maybe a few other Twilights... Alses? Possibly. They didn't know each other so well, but she hoped the Ethaefal knew and understood her capabilities. The last would be someone high in the Seekers that she knew. And... that was the full list of the influential people she knew. She wouldn't have added Alses onto the list before this, but now... as a Councillor Radiant, she would have some say.

Arysana | NPC 1 |NPC 2 | Thoughts | oocI'm finally managing to clear up some breathing space -_-

The words were dull and harsh, and Arysana felt her expression slip and drop as the woman before her continued to speak to her as though she were a child. At the mention of the season that all was supposedly set, Sana's frown deepened and her gaze left the woman to her side, allowing her gaze to once more rake over the sign, the message, and the craftsmanship of the work. 'In, and out. Slow and steady. Keep your breathing even and your mind clear.'

Her eyes fluttered shut as the words rolled on, her teeth grinding slightly as she found herself falling into the trap of over-analysis. The way that the woman phrased her sentences, where her words trailed and her pitch hitched, she felt her mind and thoughts linger on each and every break and shift in her tone. Taisie spoke of it often - how people can't help themselves in telling their thoughts through actions at times. The mention of which magic was what the supposed 'Alses' specialized in had her form snap tall and eyes flit open.

'Alses. Aurist. Councillor of Magic and Foreign Affairs.'

She soaked in the information as well as she could manage between her sideways glares, a sigh rolling out of her lungs as the woman once more gave her that incredulous tone. "I've been busy," There was a bite and chill to her words, sharp and to the point, stiffening as she scolded herself on her outburst.

"What else is there," 'Lady Avarice, do tell,' there was no trail as the geomancer spoke, her tone bitter and sharp. "If you know, that is," she almost smirked as she spoke, happily voicing her blow to the woman's pride. If she wished to speak and act as though all knowledge in the world was privy to her, then let Ary take every bit advantage of it, and see how far she could rile her.

As the words rung hollow in the air, Sana lent herself a moment to mediate on the information that had been thrown at her. She'd heard nothing of it, not at the Dawn Tower, at least. No passing mentions or ushered comments. Elsie hadn't giggled or flashed her violent yellow eyes, and Rima hadn't torn apart the very idea of council, as she often did on any topic of politics when she cooked and baked away.

'Magic and Foreign Affairs. Quite the scope, isn't it?' she finally allowed her gaze to find the woman again, still the every bit curious as to the nature of the so called 'Radiant Council' - she'd get her answers, be it from the woman or another.

The excuse of 'busy' didn't mean much to Jenni. Everyone was busy... but surely you had to hear at least some of the gossip? This woman couldn't have been hiding in a hole for the past two seasons... but that was the only good reason for missing such information. It was honestly a little amusing. The woman sounded insulted, apparently catching the Twilight's disapproval. She wasn't trying to hide it, after all.

The tight and irritated voice almost prompted the Seeker to be a little kinder, but she couldn't find a good reason to. It was stupid, and she didn't exactly care what this woman thought or felt. She was decent enough to answer the inquiry, in a mostly pleasant voice.

"Well, there are more positions other than Magic and Foreign Affairs. There are five positions in total, I believe, including that one. One, for example, is Knowledge and Education." She'd only given that one, as it was the one on her mind. It was the position she was planning on... hoping to... achieve. It would require some preparation, however.

"Positions are available to all citizens. It's in order to help those already governing our city with their work... and avoid the time when the Towers had control. All you have to do is get recommendations, and -if you're accepted- have an interview with Aysel, Talora, or Zintila herself." She eyed the woman with one raised brow, wondering what the response would be to that. She was curious herself how many people had actually tried to apply. There had only been one success, of course... but how many failures?

Arysana | NPC 1 |NPC 2 | Thoughts | oocYeah I'm giving up on the whole apologising thing -_-
The words slowly rolled over in the geomancer's mind, a frown creasing her forehead as she took in the gravity of the words that were almost spat at her, her lips twisting bitterly as she measured her words and weighed her thoughts. 'Knowledge and Foreign Affairs... I wonder if my professor would be interested in such a position- he is one of Syna's sons, is he not? That would give him favours with Aysel and Talora, I'd imagine.' She let her gaze slip towards the woman, Sana's body tensing and tightening as she absently measured herself up against the woman, before rolling into an awkward stretch as she attempted to calm herself.

'Breath in, breath out. Nice and easy. Slow and simple. Calm in the storm. Find the peace. Find the centre.'

Arysana's gaze a hard glare at the woman before going into further depth - more so drawn to the way she curled and spoke her words, the underlying arrogance and tell tale signs of irritation. Or at least, that's what Ary saw in the woman. What set her as strange was the mention of the Towers, the events of the Day of Reckoning hitting her in a solid wave, before she met the cool grey-green gaze of the woman before her. "And what is stopping the Towers from gaining control through the council?"

It was a question that made enough sense to her, Taisie had mentioned control and politics a number of times in class, some strange tangent she'd take before coming back to confidence in words and cues and trusting one's head. Sana blinked twice and she shifted back into coherent thought, throwing a gesture to the board, pointing more so in the word 'magic' of the so called Alses' title. "Alses..." She tried, before a short readjustment of her words and pronouns.

"Councillor Alses... you said she was an aurist? And quite a good one at that? I'd imagine she belongs to Dusk, then. Or at least has some association with them. Education... A seeker will take that. How many others did you say there were- three? Just because it is open to the general public does not mean that the general public is qualified."

Her gut twisted as she bore the conversation further, almost biting straight through her lip as the taller, slimmer woman regarded her with what ever look she wore. Painful company or not- those at the Dawn Tower seemed not keen to speak of the so called Council, surely the Matriarch would have wanted instead for the students and professors to step up and apply for a position?

Jenni turned to the woman at this question, raising an eyebrow. She was impressed… it was actually quite a legitimate question. She had to think on it for a few minutes, frowning. She doubted the leaders of the city would leave it without some kind of defense against an event like that. It dawned on her a moment later. ”Well, the applicant is interviewed by Zintila, Aysel, and Talora, correct? They would be able to moderate who takes those positions… and in the process avoid having them take control again.”

She paused for a moment, then continued. ”Anyways, I believe the current leaders of the Towers are uninterested in such things, especially after how hard they fell last time. With the leader of the Twilights, I am sure.” She knew Aysel well enough that staying on the public’s good side, rather than taking power, was higher on his agenda. He was softer than his brother, and actually a better leader, in her opinion… though her opinion had to be biased.

The woman’s next statement was of equal quality. Maybe she wasn’t as unintelligent as the morpher had first thought, but rather uninformed and unobservant. One could be both, right? “I don’t know Lady Alses incredibly well, but I believe that she does have some association with the Dusks… though she is certainly not one herself.”

Despite warming to the woman slightly, the Twilight couldn’t help but smirk at the mention of the Seeker. It was true… the position was perfect for a follower of Eyris. “Knowledge and Education”… what else? That was what the religion was all about, wasn’t it? She should know… she was one of them. That was what had caused the expression: the simple irony of herself being a Seeker, and hoping to go for said position.

“And that is the whole reason for the complex application process,” she finally said, adding to the last part of the woman’s comment. “You need to prove that you are qualified for the work and challenge of those positions… both in personality and skill. You don’t want a rugged, illiterate warrior going for the Knowledge and Education position. In fact… you probably don’t want them going for any position at all.” She shrugged, almost amused by the mental image the statement brought to mind.

The Councillor Radiant is of the Radiant Council. What a beautiful description Jenni! :) I liked this thread, so I will say that it was a darned shame it discontinued before getting a little more heated with detail. I liked how you guys played very snotty to one another without necessarily meaning to. The dialog was sharp and sinuous in a way. I enjoyed it!
